Does anyone actually care about blue passports?

Especially given that we were always perfectly free to opt for blue if people if people were that desperate?

Oh grim.

These types all look after each other, no matter what they do to anyone else. This is the basis of all the various sexual abuse cover ups all over the world with so many organisations.

Ta1kinPeace · 22/12/2017 13:31

I already have a blue passport.
It has an eagle on the front.
Getting blue passports will magically Make Britain Great Again
Hell yeah !!!!!

LillianGish · 22/12/2017 13:38

It will appeal to those who voted for the past without an interest in safeguarding the future (or sufficient understanding of the basic issues) and those who are easily duped in general. It epitomises "the Brexit issue" in visual format This is it in a nutshell. And those who are so happy to have them back will have plenty of time to admire them while standing in the long and slow-moving non-EU passport line as they travel around Europe having had their freedom of movement curtailed.

Xmas GrinXmas GrinXmas Grin...yep we're screwed!

Fitzsimmons · 22/12/2017 13:43

It will be Brexit in name only. The blue passports are just to appease the leave voters and help them think they've "got their sovereignty back."

Ifailed · 22/12/2017 13:48

I suppose it'll make it easier for terrorists when they hijack a plane or something to easily identify who to take out and behead first, other than than I can't see it'll make much difference.

LinoleumBlownapart · 22/12/2017 13:50

That's true Fitzsimmons and the even sadder fact about that is in many cases it will work Sad.

greedygorb · 22/12/2017 13:53

I just got my old one out. It's so blue it looks black. So that's great everyone wants a passport that looks a different colour than it actually is. As long as it's not burgundy.

Now what do we have to vote ourselves out of to get it the same size as the old one? International travel?

AfunaMbatata · 22/12/2017 13:56

Blue? Meh, that’s dull as fuck. I’d love a rainbow coloured passport.

Postsynapticdensity · 22/12/2017 13:59

Blue means the loss of the automatic right to live and work in 27 european countries, so, even though it's my favourite colour, as a concept I think it's shit

Flomper · 22/12/2017 14:00

I couldn't give a toss what colour my passport is. I can't believe tbere are still people alive who do. Irrelevant, placatory opiate fir the masses.

noblegiraffe · 22/12/2017 14:08

Does anyone else remember the Jack Dee sketch about changing the passports from blue? 'You don't show it to officials, you slap them aside with it. Out of my way Johnny Foreigner......reason for visiting? Imperialism.'

from about 2:20.
Peregrina · 22/12/2017 14:08

Maybe we could bring back the green paper thing if people are so nostalgic for old-school documentation.

Let's go the whole hog and bring back the little maroon book driving licence, which I think had to be renewed every three years.

Now what do we have to vote ourselves out of to get it the same size as the old one? International travel?

Not quite, but exit from the American visa waiver programme. I imagine Leavers will be happy with that. It won't affect quite a lot who never travel anywhere.

Icantreachthepretzels · 22/12/2017 15:47

I've bought these passport covers (A and D) for my parents for Christmas. So their passports will be turning blue in approximately 3 days. As you can see it isn't a sign of British pride, independence and sovereignty though.

I'm tempted to get one for myself as well. I definitely will if this whole thing goes ahead as, as other people have posted, I will be completely embarrassed by a proper blue passport. I'm quite ashamed of my British passport as it is right now - but it's the 'British' bit not the colour.

ivykaty44 · 22/12/2017 15:48

I’ve lost the right to free movement, why would I care what colour my passport was

Jimbobjovi · 22/12/2017 15:52

It's cringeworthy. I don't care what colour my passport is, I value the ability to live and work freely throughout the EU thank you very much.

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 22/12/2017 15:57

@Icantreachthepretzels I wish I'd seen those in time for Christmas!

Changing the passport cover is such a trivial ridiculous sop to the worst emotional claptrap that's led us to the terrible situation we're in now. It's pathetic.

Personally I liked moving on from our (in) glorious imperial past to become a modern nation, working with others as equals rather than subjugating them.

But I agree it's unlikely to cost any extra unless there's a massive extra cost to dark blue ink as opposed to burgundy.

juneau · 22/12/2017 16:09

I do not care a fig! Actually, I prefer the red ones and as I'm a dual citizen and my other one is blue, so I really don't want two the same colour.

But this is what stupid, fucking Brexit is all about isn't it - moronic, pointless, expensive nostalgia for a bygone age that will never exist again, however many pointless actions are taken to attempt to turn back the clock. I hope we get a second referendum and I hope Brexit is consigned to the bin of history, together with navy blue passports for Brits. It's just another waste of fucking money!

80sMum · 22/12/2017 17:05

Hear hear, Juneau!

pointythings · 22/12/2017 17:07

I'm hanging on to my burgundy Dutch passport no matter what, and so are the DDs - it's our gateway to 27 other countries.

All this obsessing about passport colour is just another 'Look! A squirrel!' tactic to distract from the car crash that is Brexit.

Mistigri · 22/12/2017 17:08

The utter idiocy of this ... words fail me.

Who fucking cares what colour their passport is? Answer: stupid people with too much time on their hands.

Corcory · 22/12/2017 17:53

As a leaver it was not something I was bothered about when I voted or really care now about.
It will cost the tax payer absolutely nothing by the way as it is being fazed in from 2019 when the current one is out of contract apparently so will have more biometrics in it etc.

Ta1kinPeace · 22/12/2017 18:12

But they will be printed in Germany where the non De La Rue presses are Grin

TDHManchester · 22/12/2017 18:16

Conservatives threaten workers rights by suggestions that they will undermine the WTR and then push out a story about blue passports because they know how simple many of the British public are.

I have my Irish passport so I'm happy. Many men and women fought and died for my right to hold one and it is an honour and a privilege.

Holliewantstobehot · 22/12/2017 18:17

TBF corcory if they'd just said the passports are due to be updated, we are introducing extra identifiers on them and we thought we might change the colour to blue at the same time then I would be happy.

The trouble is they are changing them to blue in a jingoistic, back to our glorious past kind of way. I've never had a blue passport. All they will represent to me is a loss of my glorious past when I could travel round Europe at will. Which I have done twice and was hoping to do again one day in the future
