Does anyone actually care about blue passports?

Especially given that we were always perfectly free to opt for blue if people if people were that desperate?

Oh it is so depressing. I understand why people voted exit, although I voted remain. But now we are backed by right wing Poland and even more right wing Hungary.

VerticalBlinds · 22/12/2017 12:56

I would like to bring back personal wax seals for letters and public hanging.

noblegiraffe · 22/12/2017 13:00

How old are the blue passporteers? I'm nearly 40 and don't remember them.

dramaticsigh · 22/12/2017 13:02

I couldn't care less what colour our passports are.

Abra1d · 22/12/2017 13:03

I miss the Brittanic majesty demand but I don’t think we have enough gunboats to enforce it, anyway! Smile

Passport colour doesn’t bother me. I’m 53 and remember the old ones.

Abra1d · 22/12/2017 13:04

Britannic, I mean, not Brittanic.

Peachyking000 · 22/12/2017 13:05

No. I’ll be switching mine for a nice Burgundy Irish one

noblegiraffe · 22/12/2017 13:05

Theresa May's tweet about this says:

"The UK passport is an expression of our independence and sovereignty – symbolising our citizenship of a proud, great nation. That's why we have announced that the iconic #bluepassport will return after we leave the European Union in 2019."

I thought it was just a travel document. Just realised my passport is up for renewal so I'm going to have an iconic burgundy passport for the next ten years.

Sportsnight · 22/12/2017 13:05

I’m 41 and have never had a blue one.

noblegiraffe · 22/12/2017 13:06

The Brittanic Majesty demand is on my burgundy passport Confused

BenLui · 22/12/2017 13:08

The colour of my passport is the least important thing about it.

LucyLogan · 22/12/2017 13:11

I don't care what colour it is, I'm utterly furious about having my rights to travel freely through EU countries stripped away from me against my will. I'm never going to forgive that.

I'm 40 and I vaguely remember the old passports. I couldn't give a toss about having it back. I will stop now before I start swearing uncontrollably. I need a new country, this one is so embarrassing.

acatcalledjohn · 22/12/2017 13:11

Our economy will be fucked given that our government hasn't done anything worthwhile on that front yet, but at least our taxes will go towards this strong display of national pride.

I bet David Davis squealed with delight when this was confirmed. Shifts the focus away from his inability to organise the important stuff.

If this is what constitutes national pride we really are fucked.

VerticalBlinds · 22/12/2017 13:14

Christ it's embarrassing. That tweet. I'm cringing. What a bunch of trivial knobs that makes us look like.

noblegiraffe · 22/12/2017 13:14

Is this announcement to drown out the embarrassing press about the 'impact' reports in the secret room you have to book an appointment to see that appear to have been copied from wikipedia?

LinoleumBlownapart · 22/12/2017 13:16

The UK passport is an expression of our independence and sovereignty – symbolising our citizenship of a proud, great nation. That's why we have announced that the iconic #bluepassport will return after we leave the European Union in 2019.

What a load of utter shite, you'd think the UK was the only country with passports! I think all the Americas have blue passports, so Dave and Sally will stand in line at the airport and no one will know if they're from Bolton or Brazil, unless these magic blue jobs play God save the Queen every time they're opened! Hmm

VerticalBlinds · 22/12/2017 13:17

Not heard about that noblegiraffe, do you have a link? Just had a look on BBC and not sure where to try next.

I thought they usually just refused to publish impact assessments on the grounds that they didn't want to as they were too negative and might upset people.

acatcalledjohn · 22/12/2017 13:18

I expect Nigel Farage cares.

You mean that child molester supporting fascist?

noblegiraffe · 22/12/2017 13:21

Vertical Jo Swinson MP tweeted a thread about them here:

Nia Griffith MP tweeted a bit that she'd found copied from wikipedia:
twitter.com/niagriffithmp/status/943871082888683523

VerticalBlinds · 22/12/2017 13:21

Which child molesters does he support?

I didn't know that either.

Is there an issue with European laws strengthening laws protecting vulnerable people? Interesting idea of an agenda.

Holliewantstobehot · 22/12/2017 13:21

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/dec/22/blue-passports-taking-back-control-imposed-league-of-nations-burgundy-passport-eu

Apparently blue passports were introduced at the behest of the league of nations. Not so British then.

PedantHere · 22/12/2017 13:23

I have a blue American passport. It doesn't make me feel very proud. Xmas Hmm

VerticalBlinds · 22/12/2017 13:24

Thanks Noble! Very interesting esp the Jo Swinson one.

acatcalledjohn · 22/12/2017 13:25

@VerticalBlinds Guardian Link

Roy Moore. Coerced teens in the seventies.

But then Farage doesn't give a shit about anything other than his own agenda.

user1471441738 · 22/12/2017 13:28

Doesn't matter much but slightly sad about it. Every passport I've ever had was burgundy.
