Thought I'd dust off the optics & open the bar for the festive period Xmas Smile

If any of the the old crowd are still around, then do pop in for a Christmas catch up & join me in toasting the end of the beginning!

Onward! To Brexit!

Thanks, I will have a look at this frank field. It's a shame that the loudest voices are right wing as it really doesn't help support any claims that brexit will benefit the average person.

surferjet · 17/12/2017 10:18

ringle

I started a thread on here a few times with ‘leavers only’ in the thread title. It didn’t work, we got trolled massively by maniac remainers ( one was banned about 10 times but kept coming back just to say how ignorant we all were ) it was getting ridiculous in the end so most of us stopped posting. I started the original Brexit Arms threads in the hope that we could chat in a more civilised manner - it didn’t work, so I stopped bothering.
I don’t know who the new ‘Brexit Arms landlady’ is ( I think it’s a remainer actually )
but I’d rather remainers didn’t post on here, I wish we had a safe place to talk amongst ourselves. but they’ll never stop coming on these threads to tell us how ignorant we are.
It’s a shame tbh as I wouldn’t crash their threads.

ringle · 17/12/2017 11:12

Surfer jet,

I think that is fair enough.

There seems to be a real art to starting a thread that doesn't get crashed. We had a quiet corner for those of us who are v. down and that was 99% respected (we also ignored the odd one or two crashers which is important).

twofingerstoEverything · 17/12/2017 12:28

It’s a shame tbh as I wouldn’t crash their threads.

What do you mean by 'their' threads? Are there any remainer-only threads on these boards?

I'm still interested if there are any leavers who didn't vote tories or ukip in the last 2 elections.

Of course there are. It's a big mistake to think Brexit is a simple right/left thing, despite the fact that the most rabid brexit-supporting parts of social media are fond of phrases like 'leftie libtards' and the vast majority of those on the far right, eg. BNP, EDL, etc., support leave.

ringle · 17/12/2017 13:09

Enough of the amateur cross examination! There are loads of threads dominated by remainders, I can always find space to talk.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 17/12/2017 13:20

What do you mean by 'their' threads? Are there any remainer-only threads on these boards?

As Ringle mentioned, there was the thread that was (iirc) a quiet thread for those remainers who were upset & wanted a thread that wasn't adversarial.

I didn't post on that thread as it would have been crass, ignorant and unnecessarily goady of me to do so.

I respected their request.

twofingerstoEverything · 17/12/2017 14:05

I wanted to read this thread because I'm curious about how leavers think

I would also like to know how they think, given that they've voted to remove my EU citizenship, but a look back through older Brexit Arms and other MN threads doesn't offer much insight, unfortunately. If you want to know how leavers think, you might be better off looking at Richard North or Daniel Hannan's blogs: they do, at least, present arguments for their views. Or you could follow Nigel Farage on Facebook/Twitter, or follow the Change Britain facebook page (home of both Tory and Labour leavers, such as Boris Johnson and Gisela Stuart). You could also read/listen to Isabel Oakeshott/Katy Hopkins, although some might argue that they're just professional trolls. In short, if you want to know how leavers think, there are many other places you could look.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 17/12/2017 14:13

In short, if you want to know how leavers think, there are many other places you could look.

This is true - it's very difficult to try & converse with Leavers on MN, as they (we) long ago got fed up with the constant goading & supercilious attitudes of the more strident remoaners on here.
As a result we disengaged and rarely bother.

I've always been happy to have a reasonable discussion about Brexit with remainers providing they're not sneery & combative, but that's a vanishingly rare event on MN, sadly.

twofingerstoEverything · 17/12/2017 14:33

Sneery & combatitive?
Thank you for sharing your credentials as proof of the genuine nature of, and the depth of, your caring.
and...
Are you aware of any periods in history where people have been through years of turmoil for the greater good?
Do you actually know anything at all?

It does work both ways...

MichaelFabricantsHair · 17/12/2017 15:01

Been a Labour voter my whole adult life, as has my dad and we both voted Leave. I have Labour voting neices and a nephew in their early 20s who also voted Leave and several friends I'd class as being on the left who voted Leave.

According to YouGov 35% of Labour voters, 32% of Liberal Democrat voters and 20% of Green voters voted Leave <a class="break-all" href="//.yougov.co.uk/news/2016/06/27/how-britain-voted/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.yougov.co.uk/news/2016/06/27/how-britain-voted/ So hardly a Left Vs Right issue.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 17/12/2017 15:17

It does work both ways...

Hence why I said I gave up long ago, and can only be arsed if the other poster isn't sneery or combative.

I tend to respond in kind to posters tbh.
If they're reasonable towards me, I am reasonable in return; if they're sneery, so am I.

As you said, it works both ways.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 17/12/2017 18:14

Sorry, teying to avoid EU threads but never mind

faith

I didn't post on that thread as it would have been crass, ignorant and unnecessarily goady of me to do so.

No YOU wouldn't, as you're lovely...

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 17/12/2017 18:30

I have my moments Rufus 😳

I aspire to be nice irl & mostly am, but I also have the capacity to be a cold-hearted ruthless cow & have unleashed hell numerous times over the years...

In all honesty I've no real beef with the regular remainers on MN, even though it seems I do at times (and I've been less than nice sometimes, I know that).

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 17/12/2017 18:35

faith

Like all posters on mumsnet there have been some that have just been aweful stirry ranting weirdos

There have been some ive thought were generally nice...but have proven not to be

And some, who although i may disagree with them, seem to be genuinely lovely

surferjet · 17/12/2017 18:44

Rufus - get a grip, this is an anonymous talk forum not a dating agency.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 17/12/2017 18:59

🤣
Surfer, she's on the verge of swiping right - leave her be!!

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 17/12/2017 19:05

faith

I already have swiped right Grin

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 17/12/2017 19:10

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 17/12/2017 19:14

Did i spell awful wrong?

Yep Blush

OliviaD68 · 22/12/2017 23:12

So ... we have May, Farage and The Sun crowing about blue (which used to be black actually) passports... which they are attributing to Brexit but which we could have had inside the EU.

At a cost of some £500 m.

Meanwhile ... NHS is suffering. Stories of homeless children. Our economy is tanking.

WTF? Who are these people?

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 22/12/2017 23:40

I thought the contract was due renewal anyway?
So the £500m has pretty much the square root of fuck all to do with any colour change.

'Colour change to cost £500m!' is just the usual fake news from outraged remainers desperate for any reason to get smuggy-mcsmug at Leavers on MN.

OliviaD68 · 22/12/2017 23:53

@FaithHopeCharityDesperation

Then why crow about it?

Who gives a rat's ass when our economy is going in the shitter because of governmental incompetence and hijacking by a bunch of radicals?

Corcory · 22/12/2017 23:58

They were never black Olivia and the contract is renewed every 5 years and will be changed then so no additional cost at all.
I thing they announced it as some people might quite like the idea that they are going back to the original colour.

OliviaD68 · 23/12/2017 00:04

Must be colour blind then.

But it doesn't matter. The PM surely has better things to talk about. Unless it is diversionary away from the shit show that is Brexit. Not sure what to call this once we get our Canada FTA deal.

The Brexit Arms
FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 23/12/2017 00:33

Olivia - why did you even post on here?
What reaction were you looking for?

The self-proclaimed 'anti-brexit' thread has been banging on about it all day, was that not enough for you?

Fwiw I couldn't give a toss what colour the passports are, even though that doesn't fit with the MN approved 'what a Brexiter is like' narrative.
