Thought I'd dust off the optics & open the bar for the festive period Xmas Smile

If any of the the old crowd are still around, then do pop in for a Christmas catch up & join me in toasting the end of the beginning!

Onward! To Brexit!

The lengths people are going to to avoid discussing the realities of Brexit are quite amazing

Don't you dare minimise my hurt and objection to disablist language. Living with the reality of disability day in day out is far more relevant to me than Brexit ever will be.

Find some other mug to condescend. You have the empathy of a potato.

Bearbehind · 17/01/2018 10:46

michael im not sure why you keep posting when you've said you're not going to discuss Brexit.

This a Brexit thread.

I'm said I'm not condoning what was said to you what else do you think I can say?

Either you want to discuss Brexit or you don't. I don't understand why posters like you and faith keep commenting on these threads because you just seem to be posting comments to derail any relevant discussions.

CardinalSin · 17/01/2018 10:47

Like Bear, I don't often post on here, as the level of goady ignorance is through the roof, but occasionally, when I've got nothing more exciting to do I'll take a look. And sometimes, the stick-your-head-in-the-sand, misinformed anti-intellectualism reaches new levels (c.f. Mummy), and I try to see if they are actually a troll, or if they really haven't a clue.

Usually it leaves me despairing for my country...

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 17/01/2018 10:48

Get some answers to basic questions which aren't irrational, factually incorrect or internally inconsistent and we have grounds for a debate.

You are still missing the glaringly obvious:
Nobody wants a debate.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 17/01/2018 10:50

Honestly, I'm all a bit meh about it at the moment. At the "it'll probably come out in the wash" end of the scale, without really feeling that getting anxious angry or upset about details on the way is going to gain anyone anything except a blood pressure problem..

This is my take too Ommmm.

MichaelFabricantsHair · 17/01/2018 10:57

This a Brexit thread Yes and I'll leave the disablist posters to it; Brexit, whilst drawing strong emotions and feelings, can never be used to justify using demeaning and disablist language.

Oddly enough, the regular disablist round these parts accused me of derailing the Brexit discussion when I voiced my objection to their abhorrent language.
Those living with disabilities are used to being silenced, t'was ever thus.

I've made my point as clearly and concisely as I can; but it's not important because it's not Brexit.

I'm half-past give a shit about this board and will leave you to to your usual circular arguments and dour disposition. Tatty bye 🖐

Bearbehind · 17/01/2018 10:57

nobody wants a debate

Clearly no Leavers do because that would involve coming up with answers to completely incompatible situations.

Unless there is some miracle, it can only be a matter of time before the penny drops and you all realise leaving the EU isn't going to what you had in mind at all.

twofingerstoEverything · 17/01/2018 12:04

Nobody wants a debate.

FGS this is the most important constitutional issue the UK has faced in decades, but 'nobody wants a debate'. God forbid that people should ask awkward questions. The lack of interest that leavers have in even the broadest detail of Brexit is unbelievable to me. There is never any cogent discussion from them on these threads and virtually none in the real world. Not even from the people who are supposed to be negotiating/delivering it.

SoulStew · 17/01/2018 12:11

MichaelFabricantsHair, I think I know the troll you mean. I also think she’s back under a new name and posting just as often and feveredly as before. I got the sharp end of her abuse in a disgusting pm. Hope she really has gone, but have my doubts.

OliviaD68 · 17/01/2018 12:17

@twofingerstoEverything

You've summarised it well. We want to get behind this thing and need answers to do it. None is forthcoming that makes any sense so can only conclude it doesn't.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 17/01/2018 12:55

Hello Soul 👋😍

I was thinking the exact same thing - too many glasses of 'dark & stormy'...

SoulStew · 17/01/2018 13:02

Hahaaa, yeah....that last little comment was hilarious! I wonder if she’s still toasting me?

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 17/01/2018 13:19

I'm sure she is - she is remarkably obsessed with posters on these threads.
I think she must have a very empty & lonely life (unsurprising if she is the same in rl as she is on here).

Bearbehind · 17/01/2018 13:36

The irony of those posters who reprimand others for their comments, yet happily bitch away between themselves about others is not lost on many of us.

SoulStew · 17/01/2018 13:44

Sure bear, whatever! There’s been no ‘bitching’, just musing. This is, after all, the brexit arms thread, not westmistenders, a thread meant for chit chat. Does every post about brexit need 16 links, 48 stats, and a solid wall of angry text now?

CardinalSin · 17/01/2018 14:39

No, but the odd fact here and there wouldn't go amiss...

Bearbehind · 17/01/2018 14:56

Ah, so it's 'musing' when done by a Leaver, but anything a Remainer says is deeply offensive and they are goady trolls. Got it now.

Shame no Leavers can be bothered engaging in sensible, Brexit related conversation on here though. I'm not asking for endless links and stats, just a simple question, well 2 actually:-

  • if we aren't going to have a hard border how can we ever operate under WTO?
  • if we effectively remain in the SM, albeit under a different name, but still pay for access and still have to abide by all the rules, what will have been the point of Brexit?
Inkanta · 17/01/2018 15:06

"Just a simple question, well 2 actually:-"

For goodness sakes Bear go find something to do if all you can say is, I have questions that NEED answers - answer my questions leavers!!!

Do you normally talk to people like this?

Bearbehind · 17/01/2018 15:13

I didn't use the word 'need' at all inkanta

Silly me thinking I could discuss Brexit issues on a Brexit thread eh?

Why don't you find something else to do as you're clearly not interested in discussing the topic at hand?

The fact is someone responsible for delivering Brexit is going to 'need' to answer those questions and it therefore seems logical that a Leavers might have considered the answers to them.

Trouble is, there's nothing logical about Brexit

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 17/01/2018 15:23

Feel free to start a thread which posits your specific queries Bear.

Inkanta · 17/01/2018 15:26

Bear - the theme in your posts is always that your questions are not being answered in a satisfactory manner. There seems to be an assumption that the role of leavers' is to answer your questions.

Have you considered that folk don't engage with you because of the 'attitude' in your posts.

mummmy2017 · 17/01/2018 15:26

WTO, it's quiet simple really Bear, we will pay tariffs, EU will pay tariffs and some sort of boarder will have to be used,
There is no way it can't be this way if we go to WTO, as they say the border has to operate, I did read somewhere on the BBC that the GFA is now being read as so long as our Rules are fairer that the EU ones so as not to discriminate against both sides then it can be done..
That there is an option of a soft border, where things are done on trust, but tariffs are still paid.
Yes I did some homework..
May and Corbyn have both said no to SM yes to FT, but we will have to see.
Oh and have you seen how the Dutch are saying they won't pay extra to plug the EU budget, think I may have been talking about this last night...

Bearbehind · 17/01/2018 15:28

There's no point faith, it's the same people who'd read that and still make up a million excuses of why they can't answer.

I've always said a Leave is like a cult and people are being more and more brain washed as time passes because they are completely ignoring anything remotely difficult and assuming it will magically be resolved.

I'd love to read the history books in 50 years to see how these times are looked back on. It's utter madness ATM.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 17/01/2018 15:30

Ah, so it's 'musing' when done by a Leaver, but anything a Remainer says is deeply offensive and they are goady trolls. Got it now.

Not at all.

I merely pointed out that a particular term is not used in reasonable adult conversation these days & is considered offensive by many.

A few posters were adamant that their right to use said term trumped the feelings of others & those posters happened to be remainers in this instance.
I would have made the same comments to Leavers too - the way one voted has no bearing on my responses or observations.

Bearbehind · 17/01/2018 15:31

some sort of boarder will have to be used

Well that clears that up mummmy Borders based on trust sound just the ticket Hmm
