Thought I'd dust off the optics & open the bar for the festive period Xmas Smile

If any of the the old crowd are still around, then do pop in for a Christmas catch up & join me in toasting the end of the beginning!

Onward! To Brexit!

It’s a scientific experiment to prove that if brains were dynamite he wouldn’t have enough to blow his hat off.

OliviaD68 · 16/01/2018 08:08

Don't mind his hat. He's not the first pol to have bad taste in clothes.

I mind more his political and social views combined with dishonesty. The claims on the creation of an EU Army are his most recent BS.

In a word, he's just tedious.

He's far from dumb though.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 16/01/2018 10:10

As an aside, the word 'dumb' is something I associate with a 1970s playground.

It has no place in adult conversation, or indeed any conversation in the 21st century.

Please would you stop using it, it's hideous & unnecessary.

mummmy2017 · 16/01/2018 11:49

Or maybe the EU have realised they can't balance the books.

Oh that would be lose 15% of your income, and still trying to raise your spending...

AgnesSkinner · 16/01/2018 12:44

Don’t get too excited about the budget mummmy - it hasn’t been set yet (next budget round will be negotiated thus tear).

www.politico.eu/article/eu-budget-barnier-davis-brexits-minimal-impact/

As far as Brexit is concerned, the underspending means that the EU and the member countries are not as cash-strapped as some Brexiteers seem to imagine.

AgnesSkinner · 16/01/2018 12:45
  • this year, not thus tear 🤔
SoulStew · 16/01/2018 12:50

Agreed faith, but I’m not really surprised that the remain hardcore have stooped to using such language. If the uk element of the eu faithful treat those who disagree with them so awfully, thank heavens we are pushing off the yoke of the ones in power!

Tanith · 16/01/2018 13:00

Ironically, while leftie women are obsessed with right wing politics & virtue signalling all over the place, labour are eradicating your ( & my ) very existence.

I had no idea Maria Miller had switched to Labour - when did that happen?

surferjet · 16/01/2018 13:05

Agree. The remain hardcore are nothing to aspire to.
Most of them come across as arrogant bullies. I’ve yet to meet a genuinely nice one and that’s the truth. ( online I should add, most RL remainers seem pretty normal )

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 16/01/2018 13:14

Remainers I know in rl are perfectly normal & reasonable people too Surfer - ditto Leavers.

Sadly MN seems to attract a particular type of remoaner Sad

surferjet · 16/01/2018 13:22

They come online because no one else will listen to them ( not that we do either but ykwim )

CardinalSin · 16/01/2018 13:30

"Oh that would be lose 15% of your income, and still trying to raise your spending"

Which is what the UK government will be trying to do come Brexit...

mummmy2017 · 16/01/2018 15:01

CardinalSin. we can and will make up the amount, as we won't be paying it out each year.
Just where do you think the EU will find the money, do they have a little Irish Leprechaun and have stolen his pot.

It's all over the news how they say we can change our mind this week, now why do you think that is...

Bearbehind · 16/01/2018 15:16

It's all over the news how they say we can change our mind this week, now why do you think that is...

mummy I realise you and all other leavers think it's because the EU simply can't manage without us but I suspect most Remainers don't see it that way at all.

The EU are way ahead of the game than us in every aspect of our departure.

They have thought about the repercussions and are making contingency plans.

They can see we are just showboating and have absolutely no idea how badly we will be affected by the fact we will not be able to have our cake and eat it.

I see it that the EU is offering us a way out.

Granted life will be more difficult for the EU if we leave but it won't be anywhere near as difficult as it's going to be for the UK.

Maybe if Leavers STFU with the rhetoric and actually made some concrete plans things would look different.

CardinalSin · 16/01/2018 15:22

Mummy, we do not send 15% of our budget to the EU! And no, we won't be able to just make it up when we have cut out our trade deals. Cloud cuckoo land is getting crowded!

GhostofFrankGrimes · 16/01/2018 15:47

I’m not really surprised that the remain hardcore have stooped to using such language. If the uk element of the eu faithful treat those who disagree with them so awfully, thank heavens we are pushing off the yoke of the ones in power!

All remainers have to put up with is being called traitors, enemies of the people and in extreme cases receive death threats.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/aug/25/viscount-jailed-gina-miller-threats-drops-appeal-sentence

I've mentioned this things on the Brexit Arms thread before and have been met with silence. But yes I'll spare a thought for leavers on this thread who have their views challenged. Terrible stuff.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 16/01/2018 16:28

The silence is because people have taken to ignoring you tbh, not anything more subversive.

I asked Olivia to stop using disablist language - what that has to do with Gina Miller & the odious Rhodri Philips is beyond me.

MsHooliesCardigan · 16/01/2018 16:37

Bearbehind I couldn’t agree more. I see it as the EU trying to be magnanimous and trying to offer us a way out of this mess without losing too much face. I don’t believe for a second that they are quaking in their boots at the thought of us leaving. I actually got the impression of genuine sadness at watching a country, that has been an ally for so long, behaving so self destructively.
If they behaved the way we have, they would just be sticking their fingers up at us and saying, ‘Piss off then, see if we care’.
That’s about the level that we have been operating on. I think they have been beyond patient with us but I don’t see it going on much longer.
I keep thinking about how students of the future will be taught about this period in our history.
I imagine most of them just thinking,’ What the fuck were they thinking?’

CardinalSin · 16/01/2018 16:41

It will be the last chapter in Gibbon's "The Rise and Fall of the British Empire".

It really hurts.

CardinalSin · 16/01/2018 16:43

Or should that be just "The Decline and Fall..."

Bearbehind · 16/01/2018 16:46

The silence is because people have taken to ignoring you tbh, not anything more subversive.

We should have a Brexit bingo card for all the reasons Leavers don't answer questions.

That gem would be right up there.

Like it or not, you guys are going to need to come up with some answers PDQ.

OliviaD68 · 16/01/2018 16:47

@FaithHopeCharityDesperation

Is English your first language?

How does 'far from dumb' translate in your view or language? Please explain how this is disablist?

Perhaps you can then explain to us how black is white and white is black?

OliviaD68 · 16/01/2018 16:56

@Bearbehind

I think it is hopeless to think we are going to get any answers. There are none to provide.

The Brexshit case is an empty shell, devoid of reason or purpose but filled with ignorance and misconceptions.

Clearly some who voted Leave have got the joke. I'm afraid these ones won't either through lack of willingness or simple lack of ability to assimilate facts. We can't debate what is not debatable.

mummmy2017 · 16/01/2018 16:57

We do however send 15% of the EU income, that they use to spend..

Any Club that lost 15% of their INCOME......
Then intended to Increase the costs to the other members to cover the cost would find a lot of unhappy members..
Germany pay more than the bottom 19 members..

The reports from the EU are now appearing that they will be losing far more than just our budget share, you keep appearing to brush this aside and saying it doesn't matter to the EU, yet 2nd and 3rd side effects to the EU have massive ramifications to the Tax and Income from the UK into the various countries on a personal level.

How can you be so preoccupied as to not accept that in private the EU27 are having to realise the massive hole this is going to create in GDP for all the countries.

Austra intends to cut CB payments to other countires, so that means we can,

Italy is talking about not making their budget payments , due to the lack of help with the refugee's/

Greece is still not in recovery.

Spain is saying they don't want to stop the influx of UK Tourists as they have Islands that have no other income and have now asked for a very large amount to be set aside to cover this shortfall.

Germany is saying let the UK change it's mind as we will loss Billions is sales to the UK.

And now the EU are suddenly hoping we change our minds. WOW .. never expected that one....
