Has anybody changed their mind about how they voted?

It seems not many people have?

OP posts:
Bearbehind · 24/09/2017 11:00

I want to see a system where everyone, no matter where in the world they come from is given an equal chance of coming here if they want to.

corcory, I understand the principle of that comment but FOM can't be viewed in isolation.

Do you honestly think the price we are going to have to pay in other areas, particularly the economy, which will affect the majority of people, is worth it for a bit more equality in an area which has such minimal implications for most people?

MichaelFabricantsHair · 24/09/2017 11:23

Maybe Cocory values equality for all over material wealth and the environmental damage that comes with a consistently growing economy? We all prioritise in life and we all differ with regards to our priorities.

Mistigri · 24/09/2017 11:57

It seems I'm right about almost nobody changing their minds about their vote.

If this conclusion is based on this thread then you are making some big assumptions about people on MN who seek out hidden corners of the site to discuss brexit.

By definition anyone posting on here still actively cares about brexit, either because they were highly invested in the referendum, or because they are personally affected (I am an affected migrant, hence my presence here).

People who are strongly invested in an issue are much less likely to change their minds than the average voter.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 24/09/2017 12:09

I think a couple of people on this thread have said they have changed their minds from Leave to remain though.
And I'm sure I've seen Michael strongly express regrets somewhere too.

Kudos to those who admit that voting Brexit was a mistake. Grin

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 24/09/2017 12:35

Faith why direct your ire at Remainers on these boards for concluding that ending FOM means departure of immigrants, when apparently it's our own incredibly competent government who are actively pursuing an agenda of creating a hostile environment of harassing legal residents to leave?*

I’m not directing ire, I’ve no ire to direct.

I’m simply pointing out the ridiculousness within your & others posts is all.

Wanting to end FoM does not equal hating foreigners & wishing them ill, yet you seemed to think they are one & the same - you are wrong.

You didn’t say anything about the govt creating a hostile environment in the posts I commented on - you said that every foreigner that leaves was a success for Brexit & that there would be ‘high fives all round’, you then conflated ending FoM with being anti foreigner (again).

I posted in response to your deliberate attempts at goadiness with no ‘ire’ at all - why do you insist on seeing anger where there’s none?

Peregrina · 24/09/2017 13:34

I want to see a system where everyone, no matter where in the world they come from is given an equal chance of coming here if they want to.

You need to take this up with Theresa May - it's her policies which are discriminatory.

MichaelFabricantsHair · 24/09/2017 13:46

I have indeed Histiny stated that if I had to do it all over again, I'd spoil my ballot paper instead.

Did I make the wrong call? Quite possibly, given that I'm not infallible, being a human being and all that.
I have admitted that I naively thought the government must have had some sort of plan in the event of a vote to leave the EU. I think this is the most incompetent government in all recent history.

I think Brexit is a hot mess.

Peregrina · 24/09/2017 14:08

I think this is the most incompetent government in all recent history.
I'm happy to agree with you there.

How do you envisage Brexit delivering equality for all?

From where I'm standing it's not going to deliver that on any matter.

MichaelFabricantsHair · 24/09/2017 15:51

I personally didn't say I envisioned that Bear. It was idle conjecture, sorry if I wasn't clear.

Bearbehind · 24/09/2017 17:50

I get that michael but there's no point in defending other posters comments with something you don't believe in.

I still don't understand why a need to balance equality in FOM outweighs the other consequences of Leaving.

MichaelFabricantsHair · 24/09/2017 17:55

I wasn't defending anything Bear and I thought that idle conjecture was sufficiently explanatory.

Corcory · 24/09/2017 18:07

Bear and Michael - The discussion was on FOM. I gave my views.

MichaelFabricantsHair · 24/09/2017 18:12

I know Cocory I was just brainfarting out loud and Bear read more into it than necessary.

Bearbehind · 24/09/2017 18:22

corcory, Brexit isn't just about FOM.

Why do you think equality in this area outweighs all the other negatives of leaving?

Corcory · 24/09/2017 20:24

We were not talking about anything other than FOM Bear. I never said it outweighed everything else.

Bearbehind · 24/09/2017 20:31

Of course we're talking about subjects other than FOM.

We're talking about Brexit.

It covers all aspects of leaving, not just the bits you want to happen.

This is what I just don't get with Leavers; yes there might be one small aspect you perceive will be better outside the EU but everything else is being ignored.

Surely your vote to leave was based on weighing up the options?

If you didn't think FOM restrictions outweighed the adverse affects, what tipped the balance for you?

What have we got to look forward to?

Corcory · 24/09/2017 20:44

Bear - I was answering the assumption of a poster that leavers would be very happy that 10,000 EU citizens had left the employ of the NHS since Brexit. I was putting my view forward on that subject. End of.

Bearbehind · 24/09/2017 20:51

It's not the 'end of' though is it?

You've always asserted the fact your vote was because you were unhappy with discrimination against non-EU citizens.

If we end FOM in its current form but the economy tanks because of it, is that a price worth paying?

TheElementsSong · 24/09/2017 21:57

Well! Had a very long day out at a family attraction; a particular highlight (lowlight) was during a food-prepping demonstration, when a small child standing near to us abruptly projectile-vomited all over the floor, splattering the audience Envy (not envy!). Possible norovirus? Argh.

Anyway, regarding my very individual and unprecedented RAGE and ANGER of a level never before seen in real life or online. I've had all day to reflect and I'm afraid it is time to confess and offer my profuse apologies to all:

It was me who wrote all the newspaper headlines about Bremaniancs, Enemies Of The People and Crush The Saboteurs. It was me who has been doing all the shouting at foreign-looking members of the public to "f**k off home!". It was me who came up with Nigel Farage's Breaking Point-style poster. It was me who offered money to incite the assassination of somebody who voiced a political opinion opposite to mine. It was me who has been telling other posters on MN that they deserve physical chastisement in the cranial region, or that they should fornicate elsewhere and other similar sentiments. This morning, it was me who wrote many tweets to Colin Firth saying "Good riddance".

I'm so sorry for all these examples of my very unique rage and rudeness, everybody Sad. So very very very sorry Sad.

I'll bow out of this thread now.

I knew it was you...i just knew it

I just said to dh ' i bet its that 'elements'

Fact

MichaelFabricantsHair · 24/09/2017 22:47

TheElementsSong although Norovirus is transmitted via the oral-faecal route, it's a possibility that aerosol particles from the vomit can be inhaled or absorbed through the eyes Shock

Hopefully there was enough distance between you and the barfing child to avoid infection. As the incident occoured at a food preparation demo there was no doubt plenty of rigorous handwashing with soap and water going on and you'll escape unscathed.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 24/09/2017 22:53

Why would you say that michael

Why!!!
