I'm no rtb but I'll give it a shot, though her efforts deserve much more than me.

The August negotiation round has, well, fizzled out in much the same way as any other. It's taken over a year to get to written position papers and there's still no clue as to a direction from the UK government.

Japan, meanwhile, is about to sign off on a deal with the EU. A deal we want to copy.

@faisalislam
^but if post brexit britain's trade deal with third biggest economy in world is to be based on Brussels' deal, what about rest? TTIP? Canada?
...when PM signs off statements like this on primacy of EU-third party deals, one wonders how temporary the temporary customs union will be^

The NHS is now launching a drive to recruit foreign GPs, like the ones that have left thanks to Brexit. It's a good job they'll be £350m a week better off now. Oh hang on...

Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary launches scathing attack on Theresa May's Brexit strategy

http://news.sky.com/story/ryanair-boss-michael-oleary-launches-scathing-attack-on-theresa-mays-brexit-strategy-11013426

Theresa May needs to "get her finger out" over Brexit because it is going to be a "disaster for the UK economy",
Ryanair's chief executive has told Sky News.

In a damning critique of the Government, Michael O'Leary said he did not have confidence in either Mrs May or her Brexit Secretary David Davis.

And he warned that flights to Europe could be hit if no trade deal was reached and the fallback of World Trade Organisation rules was triggered.

"There's no fallback in aviation," he explained. "We're not covered by WTO rules.

"There is going to be a cessation of flights from March 2019
if she doesn't get her finger out and get a deal done in the next 12 months."

Mr O'Leary sounded a gloomy note on the progress of talks so far:
"The negotiations are not going well.
What do the British expect?
The Europeans will not move.
The onus is on the British Government to deliver a deal."

"If there's no deal by March 2019 Britain gets thrown out of the European Union,
you're out of Open Skies and there will be no flights.

"And we've been asking Mrs May's Government, what's the plan?
What's Plan B, and we haven't got any Plan B, we haven't even got Plan A-and-a-half yet."

Mr O'Leary said the Government had only about a year left to indicate where the talks were heading - at least for his business.

"The problem for the aviation industry is we need to know six months before March 2019, so about this time next year - September/October 2018,"

"If there isn't the likelihood or the outcome of an agreement there will be skin and hair flying.

"People trying to book their holidays for summer 2019 here in the UK, this time next year, the options will be drive to Scotland or get a ferry to Ireland."

I imagine he is not the only business person frustrated by the Tories' lack of understanding of how uncertainty affects business.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 01/09/2017 06:30

Thanks for keeping these thread going - I learn so much from them.

I'm still hoping someone is going to pull us back front the brink on this. With Labour's new stance, I'm hoping we are closer. In total despair at the quality of the current crop of Tories.

Artisanjam · 01/09/2017 06:56

Fix us getting his leadership bid in early (and pointlessly) again by trumpeting that the EU are trying to blackmail the U.K. By insists my on agreeing the exit before the trade deal.

Bit of shame for the Secretary of State for international trade to show so little understanding of the process.

Artisanjam · 01/09/2017 07:04

Fox.

HashiAsLarry · 01/09/2017 07:13

Fox says the UK shouldn't be blackmailed into an unfair divorce bill. Now, if that was a standalone statement I'd give him some dues, the UK shouldn't have to pay an unfair bill.

Then backs it up saying they need to know the nature of ongoing trade before they agree it. Um no mate, that's you blackmailing them. As in the first point, don't think the EU should be blackmailed into accepting an unfair divorce bill.

Not sure why the posts went, they weren't even offensive compared to the crap that went on the last thread. Just stupid. I'm sure they'll crop up in another name soon. Ye shalt know them by their DM soundbites and C&P posts.

Thanks for the DD wishes. She's having a lovely lie in at the moment. We still have to go back to the hospital for medicine every day for a while, but I can't tell you how nice it is to sleep in my own bed!

boldlygoingsomewhere · 01/09/2017 07:32

If I was a member of the Tory party, I would be concerned about the future of the party. They are not attracting young voters in anything like the numbers for Labour.

Flowers For your DD, Hashi

North Somerset is Mogg's gaff though isn't it? Unlikely to be representative perhaps. Delightful all the same.

HesterThrale · 01/09/2017 07:49

Yes North Somerset doesn't seem natural Labour territory. Before this, it was 'North Somerset First', before that LD or Con.

woman12345 · 01/09/2017 07:51

North Somerset is Mogg's gaff though isn't it Is it Fox's?

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 01/09/2017 07:52

Placemat King. I've missed loads so excuse the very dusty placemat.

EternalOptimistToo · 01/09/2017 08:00

Found you again!!

I dint know if you have noticed but for the last week or so, there has been a case of stupid decision taken by the HO 'against' a poor soul who really should have no issue staying.
Last one is an American man caring for his disabled British wife...

Now, why is it that we are hearing all that atm?
Is it because there are more and more cases or because we now hear/know about them?

RedToothBrush · 01/09/2017 08:11

Fox is just pissed that he's been found out as utterly pointless and is trying to stay relevant.

ClashCityRocker · 01/09/2017 08:12

Placemat King 👑.

I've been kind of avoiding the news for a while as wasn't in a great place and it was all getting rather depressing.

So far as I can tell we've managed to negotiate a grand total of fuck all. We're hurtling towards the cliff edge at high speed aren't we?

BestIsWest · 01/09/2017 08:14

Red glad to see you, I was worried

woman12345 · 01/09/2017 08:17

Nine G4S staff at immigration removal suspended

G4S has suspended nine members of staff from an immigration removal centre near Gatwick Airport, following a BBC Panorama undercover investigation.
The programme says it has covert footage recorded at Brook House showing officers "mocking, abusing and assaulting" people being held there.
It says it has seen "widespread self-harm and attempted suicides" in the centre, and that drug use is "rife".
G4S said it was aware of the claims and "immediately" began an investigation.
The security firm said it had not been provided with recorded evidence, but added: "There is no place for the type of conduct described."

This is not the first such allegation. Home Office reputation goes even further down the pan as outsourcing clearly isn't been properly monitored and accountable.

RedToothBrush · 01/09/2017 08:22

My son, started nursery last week. He now has the obligatory toddler flu and turned into a cuddly snot monster.

I'd not just disappeared off the face of the earth.

HashiAsLarry · 01/09/2017 08:23

red good to see you, hope you don't mind me taking the reins for a short while (or celebrate the reigns as my phone likes to say Wink)
It's stories like that which make me glad we've been rubbish at not enforcing controls.

Thanks for the real thread - veg talk is no substitute for debate. And welcome back, Red. Also get well vibes to hashi'a CD.

veg talk is no substitute for debate.

But it was probably the most wholesome method of frustrating a troublesome visitor I have ever seen. Grin
