I'm no rtb but I'll give it a shot, though her efforts deserve much more than me.

The August negotiation round has, well, fizzled out in much the same way as any other. It's taken over a year to get to written position papers and there's still no clue as to a direction from the UK government.

Japan, meanwhile, is about to sign off on a deal with the EU. A deal we want to copy.

@faisalislam
^but if post brexit britain's trade deal with third biggest economy in world is to be based on Brussels' deal, what about rest? TTIP? Canada?
...when PM signs off statements like this on primacy of EU-third party deals, one wonders how temporary the temporary customs union will be^

The NHS is now launching a drive to recruit foreign GPs, like the ones that have left thanks to Brexit. It's a good job they'll be £350m a week better off now. Oh hang on...

Somewhat feeling the need to have some gravitas to my posts now I'll be highlighted Shock

I've just got my gorgeous little dd home from hospital and tucked up in her own bed so I've got nothing other than newsnight seems to have a couple of possibly interesting bits tonight on brexit divorce bill and the humanitarian issues around the uks treatment of the disabled.

Still no progress made on the Irish border issue. The billion pounds to the dup will definitely add fuel to the fire there if things get unsettled.
Its horrendous that the Tories have actually done this.

(paywall) They can't agree on how much they disagree

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/08/31/impossible-day-brexit-talks-turned-ugly/

After another four days of squabbling, the latest round of Brexit talks is over.
Today, at a joint press conference in Brussels, Michel Barnier, the EU’s chief negotiator, and David Davis, the Brexit Secretary, delivered their verdicts.

“No decisive progress,” lamented Monsieur Barnier.

“Concrete progress,” trumpeted Mr Davis.

So there we have it.
Not only do the two sides disagree over the divorce bill, the Irish border, citizens’ rights and the single market, among other issues,
but they also disagree over how much they disagree.

Lord knows what it was like behind the scenes.

“We totally disagree.”

“We disagree.”

“Good. Glad you agree.”

“No, we’re saying we disagree. We disagree that we disagree.”

“You agree that we disagree. That means you agree.”

“We disagree. We don’t disagree.”

“So you agree.”

“Yes. No.”

Don’t worry. Only another 18 months of this to go.

< no, not that long - any trade deal has to be agreed by October 2018, to have time to be passed by 38 parliaments and regional assemblies, plus the EU parliament >

Rufus we think the GF may be a PBP (previously banned poster) - maybe MNHQ peered behind their VPN or otherwise rumbled them

Dare I say, this seems like a very hard core conspiracy theorists type corner of the web. Having watched the news today they all seem to be getting on with it. What else was ever going to be the case...
