Westminstenders: The wrong homework

I'm no rtb but I'll give it a shot, though her efforts deserve much more than me.

The August negotiation round has, well, fizzled out in much the same way as any other. It's taken over a year to get to written position papers and there's still no clue as to a direction from the UK government.

Japan, meanwhile, is about to sign off on a deal with the EU. A deal we want to copy.

@faisalislam
^but if post brexit britain's trade deal with third biggest economy in world is to be based on Brussels' deal, what about rest? TTIP? Canada?
...when PM signs off statements like this on primacy of EU-third party deals, one wonders how temporary the temporary customs union will be^

The NHS is now launching a drive to recruit foreign GPs, like the ones that have left thanks to Brexit. It's a good job they'll be £350m a week better off now. Oh hang on...

MsHoolie - Yes, I enjoyed the many women wearing Queen's Opening of Parliament hats. Were there any speakers at the end? I got to Parliament Square and there didn't seem to be so I just sort of drifted away.

James Chapman @jameschappers spotted to at #PeoplesMarch4EU. Speaking later it would seem #stopbrexit #TheDemocrats

TheNumberfaker · 09/09/2017 15:29

Get a move on James!

BiglyBadgers · 09/09/2017 15:38

Oh wow. I wonder what he is going to say? Will he explain his mysterious disappearance? Shock

MsHooliesCardigan · 09/09/2017 15:53

lala Yes, there were some fab speakers. They just played music for a bit before they came on. The MC roused the crowd into a 5 minute 'Bollocks to Brexit' chant.

MsHooliesCardigan · 09/09/2017 16:28

This march definitely felt more militant than the one 6 months ago. It was a lovely atmosphere just like the last one but there was an undercurrent of anger that wasn't there before- maybe because of the pointless election where TM lost her majority and the farce of the Brexit negotiations.

missmoon · 09/09/2017 16:30

Was James Chapman really there? We left at around 2pm, must have just missed him. I took the children along, and we had a brilliant time.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 09/09/2017 16:32

Seb dance was brilliant!

lalalonglegs · 09/09/2017 16:36

Funnily enough, my 9yo and friends's 8yo kept saying that they thought the atmosphere was angrier -they'd both been to the March march and were comparing.

HesterThrale · 09/09/2017 16:45

How many are they saying were there? Any idea?

TheNumberfaker · 09/09/2017 16:46

We left about 3:40 and he hadn't spoken by then. Just going past in the coach now and it's almost clear.

TheNumberfaker · 09/09/2017 16:47

Reports of 50,000 but I heard some one say Police helicopters estimated 100,000. Didn't feel that big.

SwedishEdith · 09/09/2017 16:52

Yes, James Chapman speaking is on Twitter. Not listened to it yet.

TheNumberfaker · 09/09/2017 17:17

Link?

Cailleach1 · 09/09/2017 17:26

Blue, Louis L'Amour the king of Westerns?

LurkingHusband · 09/09/2017 17:33

Great march !!!! Glad to see so many kids ...

MsHooliesCardigan · 09/09/2017 18:21

There was an amazing little girl with a megaphone shouting 'Exit Brexit' and some fantastic booing as we went past Downing Street. I know it probably won't make any difference but it feels important to me to be able to say that I did what I could.

Cailleach - no idea, sorry!

I know it probably won't make any difference

Well, this just happened:

David Davis makes Brexit concession to save Tories from cross-party assault

www.express.co.uk/news/politics/852089/Brett-David-Davis-EU-Withdrawal-Bill-Theresa-May

Was it Ed Davies who intimated that there's cross party support to reject May's committee stitch up on Tuesday?

The conservative peer who spoke, was good on cross party consensus.

And weren't all the young people who spoke, brilliant? The young man from NI was powerful, and the the young women from Romania and Bulgaria reminding us to do as they had to to get rid of rogue governments.

Bapinder Singh was so powerful on Grenfell. Shocking stats on the mortality and suicide rate, he had too. Sikhs do soooo much good, especially in London.

I liked the Sunderland women who was the grand daughter of the Jarrow marchers, who listed places they'd swung the vote back to remain including Sunderland, "Without getting killed" was their punchline ( you had to be there Grin) Back to 60% for remain in Sunderland, now they said.

It was so good hearing real people speaking from all over the country and Europe, felt more like the grass roots movement it has become by default, which could be a strength.

No labour MPs, unlike in March.

I'm not sure what to make of the Chappers appearance, not reported anywhere except here and twitter. Hmm I was at the front, filmed his speech and I spoke to him briefly, he said he was taking a break, but would be back on twitter, and his family were fine. He was friendly and nice. He was with another fellow, looked pale, but was chatting back stage, and having selfies with people.

Nice hats and sunshine too. Smile
