I'm no rtb but I'll give it a shot, though her efforts deserve much more than me.

The August negotiation round has, well, fizzled out in much the same way as any other. It's taken over a year to get to written position papers and there's still no clue as to a direction from the UK government.

Japan, meanwhile, is about to sign off on a deal with the EU. A deal we want to copy.

@faisalislam
^but if post brexit britain's trade deal with third biggest economy in world is to be based on Brussels' deal, what about rest? TTIP? Canada?
...when PM signs off statements like this on primacy of EU-third party deals, one wonders how temporary the temporary customs union will be^

The NHS is now launching a drive to recruit foreign GPs, like the ones that have left thanks to Brexit. It's a good job they'll be £350m a week better off now. Oh hang on...

Think this has been mentioned about none release of the bung m.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/not-a-penny-of-duptory-1billion-will-be-released-until-devolution-restored-reports-36112614.html
Not a penny of DUP/Tory £1billion will be released until devolution restored - reports

But note this paragraph from this article:

In a report in Friday's News Letter, Stormont sources said there had been a "definite shift" in relations between the DUP and Sinn Fein in finding agreement in the past two days.

RedToothBrush · 09/09/2017 02:36

Northern Secretary questions pay for members ‘who have not met for several months’

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Well at least someone has figured out how the DUP think and what the priority (sole interest) of their representatives is.

woman9917 · 09/09/2017 07:30

The DUP declined to comment on how its 10 MPs would vote next Tuesday, following a likely two-hour debate

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/theresa-may-brexit-power-grab-plan-election-lost-majority-parliament-rig-a7937081.html

As she's not long for office, DUP must be wondering how reliable their £1b bung is.

That the tories will destroy themselves is a given, it's just a matter of the timing that labour must be trying to game.

Parallels with everything over the atlantic.

Thanks math intelligence gathering and boundary change revocation. Old tricks, new masters.

BiglyBadgers · 09/09/2017 08:25

I find myself wondering about James Chapman again today. There still doesn't seem to be any news on what happened to him, unless anyone else has heard?

woman9917 · 09/09/2017 08:32

No, bigly. He's (been) disappeared. There are so many things going on in britain right now that one has to pretend are not happening.

BiglyBadgers · 09/09/2017 08:36

I have this vague memory that he was planning on launching the new party the 9 September, which is why I thought of him. I suddenly realised it has now been weeks since his last tweets and there is not a single thing at all anywhere about him. It is seriously creepy. "Disappeared" really is the only word for it. Confused

HashiAsLarry · 09/09/2017 08:52

To those marching today, please throw a few extra steps in for me.
I've gotten quite handy on my crutches but don't quite feel good enough for even a short match.
I have decorated them with unicorns and rainbows though, to show support.

I don't suppose that missing Remainer dad would even have his PR job to return to, as that company is imploding:

whatwouldrondo · 09/09/2017 09:20

I shall be there on the march in spirit too, please have a chant for me. I look forward to reading the extensive coverage in the UK media Hmm I just had the man in the camera shop, after the usual discussion about his stay in London with a relative in Wood Green (not sure why so many Asians that you meet in shops or taxis has a relative, or in one case a guru, in Wood Green) launch into a full on monologue about the disasters hitting the world starting with Brexit and moving on to the particularly virulent monsoon here, floods, typhoons, hurricanes,, all down to Trump apparently...... Anyway I will raise a glass to all of you marching later

BigChocFrenzy · 09/09/2017 09:23

Respect - vs or lack of it

Barnier has accepted an invitation to appear before the Holyrood European Committee.
He will report there on the negotiations and answer questions

However, DD has refused. Also refused to meet with Welsh elected reps

Funny how the EU respect a devolved govt and keep it informed, whereas Westminster either ignores or dictates.
That probably explains the conundrum of why many Scottish Nationalists are pro-EU, when one would expect them to be anti.

howabout · 09/09/2017 09:52

Bigchoc Scotland has 59 MPs sitting in Westminster (35 SNP, 13 Conservative, 4 LibDem and 7 Labour). They all had the opportunity to sit in session with DD in the HoC this week. In addition, Scotland has its very own Cabinet Minister. This also applies to N Ireland and Wales.

NS is the Leader of the SNP in Scotland and England and Ruth Davidson is Leader of Scottish Conservatives in Holyrood and Westminster. Even Scottish Labour is distinct from UK Labour these days.

Liz Truss (UK Treasury) was meeting with Derek MacKay (Holyrood Treasury) in Glasgow on Thursday to discuss business and Brexit at exactly the same time NS was claiming in Edinburgh that no such communication was taking place. Grin

Even for those who prefer the tail wagging the dog version of Devolution it takes a lot of suspension of disbelief to suggest Westminster MPs do not communicate with and are not controlled by their Scottish Leadership.

Next you'll be suggesting DUP MPs don't act purely in their own political interest Grin

howabout · 09/09/2017 10:17

And from the pages of The Guardian the worst sort of Little Englander sentimentality. If Ian Jack ever got out of his cosy billet in Central London he would know just how many Scots have been involved in wur new bridge. He would also know how many Scottish school children, including my own, have been introduced to the World of engineering through site visits and community engagement with the project. Scotland was built on global trade and engineering and it still is.

Sorry, bit tangential, but it was either that or rant about "2 child limit HH" complaining about JRM not changing nappies.

Off out to venture into Northern Rainstorm Keith that's raging outside.

HashiAsLarry · 09/09/2017 11:01

There's a massive difference between sitting MPs etc attending a briefing with DD, and involving the devolved administrations. Being possessed of the ability to be updated is not the same as being involved. It's quite an insult to the entire process of devolution to suggest otherwise.

Red "Ha! DS2's school has sent home its half-termly "British values" sheet. On democracy."

Is it good? Does it talk about ...

Or just about voting and elections? With winners and losers. And parties. Or worse, 'The Will Of the People'?

It doesn't really talk about anything except some vague stuff about children having a voice at the school! But it has this quote:
‘To make democracy work, we must be a nation of participants, not simply observers’ Louis L’Amour

British Values are apparently: Democracy, Rule of Law, Tolerance of Different Cultures & Religions, Mutual Respect and Individual Liberty. Wish someone would remind the govt of that...

RedToothBrush · 09/09/2017 12:47

Well that will be up for the chop. Far too left wing. Tory party need to grow little nazis to survive.

MsHooliesCardigan · 09/09/2017 13:09
