I'll just leave this here.

Lost the argument again haven't we Surfer?

mummmy2017 · 11/08/2017 12:23

How can we have lost when Brexit is happening?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 11/08/2017 12:29

Don't be obtuse. There is no logical argument as to how Brexit will be beneficial for the country. The Government don't even know but then most of them were remainers.

Your "victory" will be pyrrhic.

mummmy2017 · 11/08/2017 12:37

Which shows you there must be something very wrong if the people at the top are so different in views to the people on the street, the little men who slog each day.

I don't think logic was the reason, after decades of EU progressing to a more than it ever was supposed to be, a chance to get out was given and taken.
Switzerland decide not to join the European Union after years of working towards it, they changed their mind in 2016.
Just as we have decided to no longer be a member.

CardinalSin · 11/08/2017 12:38

Lost the argument, the economy, the stability of the country, it's standing in the world, the NHS, it's farming industry, it's fantastic research, etc. etc...

But hey, you won a referendum based on lies, that's all that matters!

mummmy2017 · 11/08/2017 12:46

But hey, you won a referendum based on lies, that's all that matters!
finally you get it.

CardinalSin · 11/08/2017 12:48

Glad you finally admit it.

surferjet · 11/08/2017 12:49

What argument?
There is no argument.
Leave won. A few fanatics on the losing side just can't accept it & still want to lash out whenever they can.
The likes of Vince Cable & Tony Blair don't help these people of course, but those two are just using Brexit for their own political gain. Why some ordinary remainers are still so angry I just don't know?

Brexit is happening, and it could be to their benefit for all they know. But they can't see further than next week so there's no hope for them really.
Thank god for sensible, grounded, forward thinking leavers.

I refer you to my previous answer...

CardinalSin · 11/08/2017 13:04

"but those two are just using Brexit for their own political gain"

Wow, with this level of political insight, why aren't you Prime Minister?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 11/08/2017 13:06

Thank god for sensible, grounded, forward thinking leavers.

Brexit is social and economic regression. It is also an intellectual chasm. As these threads show.

Deadsouls · 11/08/2017 13:19

So, I am curious about this....

My relatives live in France emigrated over 15 years ago.
Am on holiday and happened to meet a couple who emigrated here April this year. They are in 60-65 age and have retired. They said they love the life here and so on.
They voted to leave the EU. How does that work? (I know I should ask them but was not of a mind last night). I'm supposing that they benefit from reciprocal healthcare benefits, etc and so forth, and won't actually be living in the U.K. So fears that all about? Am I missing something?
If they wanted to not be a part of the EU, why move to mainland Europe if it's so terrible? Surely they will be living under the same EU legislation that they voted to disentangle from. Plus 'sovereignty', as they do not live in the U.K. they will not benefit from all the supposed great things that coming out of the EU will bring my forth?
Are there any answers??

Deadsouls · 11/08/2017 13:19

Apologies for all the typos

Deadsouls · 11/08/2017 13:21

Am posting here as there are a few pro-Brexit ppl here who might know? I don't mean personally on this particular couple, but in the more general sense, like I feel as though I'm really not understanding the reason.

surferjet · 11/08/2017 13:31

It is also an intellectual chasm. As these threads show
I know it physically pains you that non university educated people have the vote, but guess what, that's what women fought for all those years ago.
I know you'd like to turn back time and have a world where only posh property owning people were allowed to vote, but try and drag yourself into 2017.
We're all equal now. 🍷

I think surfer and frank grimes secretly enjoy their banter - a bit of frisson. Like those 40s movies with Bogart and Hepburn Grin

GhostofFrankGrimes · 11/08/2017 13:40

Surfer, you are on the same side as the media tycoons and wealthy folk (like James Dyson, Nigel Farage) who supported Brexit. In the event of an economic downturn they will be just fine. The poor and marginalised - the very people who Brexit was supposed to help - will be in the victims.

In the meantime we are 7 years into austerity;

As always, poor and vulnerable women bear the brunt of austerity

"Am I missing something?

Deadsouls, Im always happy to answer a sensible question.

Yes you are. No one but no one said mainland europe is a terrible place.

Secondly, the issues with the EU regards trillions in QE, youth unemployment, migration, brain drain/gain, loss of sovereignty, apply to all EU states not just the UK. France in particular are already kicking back against blue eyed Macron and many are aware that Le Pen received more votes than Teresa May for example. Are you suggesting that those who choose to live there, bend the knee to Merkel and Junker (nice GoT reference Grin) or should not be allowed to retain their political views? They will have plenty of French citizens supporting their views.

Thirdly, UK citizens have been happily moving to Europe for centuries to enjoy lots of the lovely benefits of good weather, slower lifestyle in retirement etc. Theres absolutely no reason whatsoever, why that will change.

But finally, yes absolutely ask them if youd like their personal view. What do you think will happen to those wishing to live abroad after brexit? That UK citizens are banned from the continent?
No one can live in France on a UK state pension only. They will have a private pension funding their lifestyle and possibly re-distributed their property wealth. They will also have private health just as the French do, and as we are advised to do, if we visit France for holidays.

Carolinesbeanies · 11/08/2017 15:22

"finally you get it." Too subtle mummy lol, can you do a diagram? Grin

twofingerstoEverything · 11/08/2017 15:26

What do you think will happen to those wishing to live abroad after brexit?

Well, their pensions are already worth a great deal less thanks to the sinking pound.

Thirdly, UK citizens have been happily moving to Europe for centuries to enjoy lots of the lovely benefits of good weather, slower lifestyle in retirement etc. Theres absolutely no reason whatsoever, why that will change.

I think you'll find that was really only RICH people.

Carolinesbeanies · 11/08/2017 15:28

"I don't see the government guaranteeing funding at those levels continuing after 2020?"

Random, why not? The 2020 date applies to the next GE, are you suggesting a future Labour government will pull the funding?

Carolinesbeanies · 11/08/2017 15:34

"Well, their pensions are already worth a great deal less thanks to the sinking pound. "

I dont know any private pension or workplace pension holder whose got their pension 'pot' stashed under the mattress in cash twofingers.

"I think you'll find that was really only RICH people."

I think youll find that really wasnt.
