I'm not worried about Brexit, that's happening no matter what, it's just a hung parliament is bad for the country as a whole.

surferjet · 09/06/2017 08:04

CardinalSin

Who are you talking to?

RandomlyGenerated · 09/06/2017 08:07

If you're not worried about Brexit, then why say at 7.54 "It's terrible news for Brexit" ?

Bearbehind · 09/06/2017 08:13

I'm not worried about Brexit, that's happening no matter what

You keep telling yourself that surfer.

It's sounding less and less convincing though isn't it?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/06/2017 08:16

Thanks for the laughs Surfer. Just re-reading the "what are the remainers going to do" thread. Grin

Brexit talks may not start on 19th.

surferjet · 09/06/2017 08:18

Listen, Brexit is happening no matter what, but having a party with no overall majority makes the negotiations harder, why do you welcome that? It's bad for everyone!
I'd have preferred labour to get an overall majority because at least we'd know where we are - but you seem to delight in the UK being in a 'weak' posistion Hmm
Oh, & for your information, Corbyn is not anti Brexit.

Bearbehind · 09/06/2017 08:25

I don't delight in the UK being in this position at all, in fact the complete opposite, it's a shambles, but it's proof the flag flying, no questions bollocks rhetoric surrounding Brexit was unacceptable to the majority of people so now there will have to be some answers.

RandomlyGenerated · 09/06/2017 08:29

72% turnout of young voters is something to celebrate - who didn't give May her mandate for a cliff edge Brexit.

LittlePickleHead · 09/06/2017 08:31

Yes this is a shambles. I'm a Lib dem voter but I'm livid that we are in this position. However the electorate has clearly rejected TMs version of Brexit (amongst other things). I still believe it will happen, but maybe it's clear that staying in the single market IS a priority and we will not put the immigration red line over everything.

This is what happens when you play the electorate for fools. She is incompetent.

RandomlyGenerated · 09/06/2017 08:33

Well 72% if Jim Pickard from FT has his figures correct ...

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/06/2017 08:39

Brexit is bad for everyone. If it can be watered down and we rebuild relations with the EU I will be delighted.

squishysquirmy · 09/06/2017 08:42

Its not a shambles. There's no political instability, leadership crisis or chaos to see here. Brexit has united the country and everything is great.
There is no hung parliament.
That's just project fear! Wink

Carolinesbeanies · 09/06/2017 08:54

Morning! Lightweight here didnt even manage to get past 1am lol.

Im pleased about turn out. Im very pleased about SNP. Surfer, I think you have to be circumspect. Ive always held the view (which is why I repeated Yannis whatsisname last night) that the EU wont let us just rock up and say, well this is what we want. Theyve always stood by their position that youre either in or your out. Those like Gina Miller quite simply refusing to accept this premise, playing the whole 'soft exit' fantasy, aiming to reverse the Brexit situation entirely.

Let the co-alition happen. The clock keeps ticking whilst all this goes on. 75% of sitting Labour MPs, didnt want Corbyn as leader. The Gina Miller camp is going to have to break cover pretty quickly to push for a 2nd ref, so lets see what shakes down.
I agree, a hung parliament, in anyones world, is not good for the country. Never mind a UK currently at such a high level of security threat.

Deadsouls · 09/06/2017 09:03

Well.....that went well

Deadsouls · 09/06/2017 09:06

surferjet
Are you saying you're not worried about Brexit, although you said 'it's terrible news for Brexit?'

Deadsouls · 09/06/2017 09:08

Remember when all the pro-Brexit posters were celebrating thinking that it was a genius political move for May to call the snap general election...because she'd massively increase her majority.

surferjet · 09/06/2017 09:11

I'm not worried about Brexit not happening, I'm worried that this puts us in a weak posistion - which it does.
why are you finding that so difficult to understand?

Figmentofmyimagination · 09/06/2017 09:16

It's all so fantastically Shakespearean - first DC calls an ineptly planned for referendum to reel back in the ukip vote. Then TM throws away a workable majority at a crucial moment when we most need stability because she can't resist the prospect of pissing all over JC and sending labour into the political backwaters for generations to come.

Only Tories could behave so hubristicly. The Romans would love it. 2000 ago, they would be literally falling on their swords (or bein run through by their fellow party big shots).

Bearbehind · 09/06/2017 09:16

We are in a weak position because of Brexit, not in spite of it.

The fact there was no consensus on where we are heading and only TMs vision of immigration being the top priority to the detriment of trade is exactly why we are in this mess.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/06/2017 09:18

UK was always in a weak position because Brexit is utter madness. At least some sanity has been restored. May has been exposed as the weak leader she is. There will be massive compromise on Brexit now. Hard Brexit is off the table. The headbangers have lost. Bigly.

Figmentofmyimagination · 09/06/2017 09:18

I think Ruth Davidson will be leading the Tories in Westminster before long.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/06/2017 09:22

Looks like Brexiteers won the battle but lost the war.

surferjet · 09/06/2017 09:25

I think Ruth Davidson will be leading the Tories in Westminster before long

Hmmm, possible. I'd be happy with that. Smile

twofingerstoEverything · 09/06/2017 09:47

Its bloody brilliant. No mandate for a hard Brexit. EU will be laughing at the mess the Tories are in. Sanity has been restored to UK politics. so proud of young people.
Well said, Frank.

Tanith · 09/06/2017 09:51

"Tories ran the Remain campaign, Labour ran the Leave campaign."

Absolutely not true! I'm sure Boris Johnson and Michael Gove would take serious issue with that statement!

I also think that Corbyn is disinterested rather than out and out Leave.
