It's terrible news for Brexit, but at least the SNP will shut up now & Nick Clegg has gone.
Corbyn is a lever anyway

YY to bloody Clegg going one small chink of light , we can look forward to him re inventing himself as a bosonova beast on Strictly come dancing Grin YY to SNP. And finally YY to Corbyn being a leaver Grin

VIPissArtist · 09/06/2017 10:07

I'd totally nail him given the chance, obvs, but I'd make him beg for Brexit first....!! Grin Grin really interesting imagine conjured up there Grin

surferjet · 09/06/2017 10:09

Looks like she's struck a deal with the DUP.

Charmageddon · 09/06/2017 10:24

"Tories ran the Remain campaign, Labour ran the Leave campaign."

You appear to have missed out the next bit in your haste to be outraged 😂😂

Here it is:

*Hope & a leap into the unknown over doom-mongering & fear.

Ach well, it's done - onwards & upwards - at least a whole new generation have become engaged in politics after years of apathy, and the time was ripe for a change anyway!*

Corbyn"s campaign was all about hope & taking a chance (as the Leave campaign was)

May's campaign was all about doom mongering & fear (as the Remain campaign was)

You posted an inaccurate statement Charmageddon. I corrected it.

Charmageddon · 09/06/2017 10:55

I didn't post an inaccurate statement!!

What on earth are you talking about??!!

Charmageddon · 09/06/2017 10:55

Surfer love it** 😂

Carolinesbeanies · 09/06/2017 11:01

"Remember when all the pro-Brexit posters were celebrating thinking that it was a genius political move for May to call the snap general election...because she'd massively increase her majority."

Which she was. Being clever on hindsight, isnt very clever. Of course she was right based on the information at that time, and the screaming of 'you have no mandate!' would only have got louder on this issue. Claiming this was now a massive error in judgment is wrong. It wasnt, and indeed the result enforces the point that she was right to call an election. Now lets see what falls out from the student union school of politics.......

surferjet · 09/06/2017 11:04

Carolinesbeanies

Agree.

Charmageddon · 09/06/2017 11:16

I agree too.

Whatever the outcome, the election had to be run - at least we'll have to see some grown up consensus across the parties now, and Labour has to start being a better opposition rather than just squabbling for squabbling's sake.

Also, sigh of relief that the sixth form Politics was pipped at the post!
(And TM got bigger vote share than Cameron).

surferjet · 09/06/2017 11:21

Irony for the left being, TM will now form a government with a party right of UKIP.

Carolinesbeanies · 09/06/2017 11:27

Junker rubbing his hands, he clearly sees lambs to the slaughter here.

VIPissArtist · 09/06/2017 11:29

And irony being UKIP will probably come back with a vengeance again. Good old Farage already waiting in the wings to see if Brexit needs him!

VIPissArtist · 09/06/2017 11:30

Grin oh yes Caroline he is gloating - such a lovely man!

squishysquirmy · 09/06/2017 11:34

"Irony for the left being, TM will now form a government with a party right of UKIP."

But they will find it very, very difficult to pass any right wing legislation that is unpalatable to the opposition. All it takes is for a some of the moderate, progressive Tory MPs to rebel to stop the right wing. If May had a huge majority, it would be much easier to push hard right legislation through. Especially since the DUP would likely support much of it anyway, even if they weren't needed for a coalition.

"Junker rubbing his hands, he clearly sees lambs to the slaughter here."

...Almost like voting for Brexit was a mistake, isn't it?

Carolinesbeanies · 09/06/2017 11:38

Dont miss the irony of the DUP, Sinn Fein and NI. If anyone had any concerns about NI not being represented in the Brexit campaigns, they best shut up now if theyre offered a place at the top table. Great potential news for valid representation of the NI people.

(Strangely, I controversially posted my support for capital punishment on another thread, completely unrelated to the GE) Ive just discovered the DUP indeed called for the return of CP in their manifesto Shock
Thats shocked even me ! Lol

Carolinesbeanies · 09/06/2017 11:40

"But they will find it very, very difficult to pass any right wing legislation that is unpalatable to the opposition."

No they wont. Thats exaclty what seeking a majority coalition avoids.

Charmageddon · 09/06/2017 11:42

At least it's not dull anyway!

Carolinesbeanies · 09/06/2017 11:44

If nothing else, its dawning on the 'rebels' in all parties, where their tactics have led us. (Though Margaret Becket et al, calling themselves 'morons' last year, is still a sweet moment)

squishysquirmy · 09/06/2017 11:45

Yes, hence my point about being susceptible to rebel backbenchers - especially the more progressive Conservatives.
Also remember that the Scottish Conservative MPs cannot vote on everything, thanks to EVEL. Without them, the Conservatives lose their majority!

Charmageddon · 09/06/2017 11:54

Labour need to get their act together & focus on being a proper party now instead of bitching & sniping;

SNP have been given a bloody nose wrt their assertions about 'the people of Scotland want another indyref' & they've been neutralised in their mischief making;

Lib Dems have been told that people don't want another ref so give it up & start looking to the future instead of whining;

Tories have been given a very bloody nose as to the impact of cuts & austerity & need to address these.

Re Brexit - DUP can ensure that NI has a big voice wrt their unique problems & needs.

Carolinesbeanies · 09/06/2017 12:00

That pretty much sums it up Charm, just missing UKIP and the SDLP have been wiped off the face of politics.

Im pleased about that too. The Sturgeon will be making her statement shortly....what slippery rubbish is she going to come out with next?
