Westministenders: Brexit Britain = Gridlock Britain ?

We keep getting told the Uk can get a deal like Canada, Turkey or other non-EU countries have, without FOM.
Those deals do not provide the same privileges as EU members:
They have quotas, restrictions and must obey EU regulations

e.g. After CETA, Ron Davidson, head of international trade for the Canadian Meat Council stated:
"We do not have what we would call commercially viable access to the European market".

The deal with Turkey abolished tariffs, but did not give free acess. This is what that means:

www.ft.com/content/b4458652-f42d-11e6-8758-6876151821a6

"On a recent Saturday at the Kapikule border crossing, about 30 minutes drive from the Turkish city of Edirne, a line of trucks 4km long stretched along the highway, inching along glacially towards the Bulgarian checkpoints.
"Today is a good day", said Ibrahim Kurtukcu, a 42-year trucker who had been waiting 14 hours.
"Last week the line was 7km long".
The record is 17km. It can take up to 30 hours to get through to the other side."

Of course, UK ports (and French ports) do not have the capacity, facilities, storage space or trained staff to handle customs processing of the vast amount of British exports & imports.

Building this additional capacity - where ? - would take several years and there are no signs that even the planning stage has started.

"Fascism is always empty and devoid of any substance or political direction other than a hatred of 'the other'. Always."
Can you please say more about it? I understand that you mean to say it's not particularly based on hate of other side. But what is it based on then? This particular case that we are facing.

SemiPermanent · 15/03/2017 10:46

*semi where do you stand in terms of moral relativism, racism and 'superiority' (your word) on this?
*
A road sign discovered in a Jewish-dominated part of North London that appeared to warn passers-by to “beware of Jews” has been removed

Woman12345, firstly, I am perplexed as to why you have addressed this specifically to me.
Have I ever posted anything that would lead you to believe that I am anti-Semitic? Xenophobic? Racist?
Or are you making that assumption based on my vote to leave the EU?

Secondly, what exactly are you asking me?

Am I pleased that the sign has been removed?
Yes, of course I am.

Am I pleased that it was put there in the first place?
No, of course I'm not.

GreenPeppers · 15/03/2017 10:46

Actually it is another possibility - no study of the impact of all the different possibilities because they don't want them.
And they don't want them because these studies might well tell them (and us!!) that a tully this is a suicide mission.

For a government though, this is more than just irresponsibility.
I can't be'ieve that DD said they were 'looking into' doing these studies. Really, still 8months after the result of the referendum and they haven't done one study of the impact of going out of the eu with no deal???

LurkingHusband · 15/03/2017 10:48

Prettybird, I can assure you that Scottish Independence supporters will have a lot more sympathy from England than in Indyref1.

+1 here too.

GreenPeppers · 15/03/2017 10:48

I'm. Wondering
Are they avoiding those studies so. That they can't be held accountable? Just like there is no white paper?
Or is that there is no white paper because they haven't a clue and haven't done the studies?

If they haven't done all those studies, what the heck have they been doing for the last few months?

woman12345 · 15/03/2017 10:49

Yep. RTB this is the way it works. It's not cock up, sadly.

DD on 'one side doesn't want to agree.....not in interests of people they represent. ' Meetings cancelled with Scottish reps.
Cherry is good. DD talking over Cherry.

No meeting with JMC before triggering of a50.
DD will be doing wonders for independence vote. Grin

GreenPeppers · 15/03/2017 10:51

Also, I can promise you that the eu WILL have done those studies.
They will know very well what is going to work for them and what isn't.
And then they are going to tell us that the EU just had their own way and wasn't flexible or just wanted to punish the UK (or didn't want the uk to have a better deal with the EU outside of the EU than inside - as if that would be in any surprising...)

The lack of preparation is scary.

woman12345 · 15/03/2017 10:52

^Am I pleased that it was put there in the first place?
No, of course I'm not^
See you under your Leavers sign at the Stand up to Racism march on Saturday then, as I am sure you agree, the racism and anti semitism before and after the referendum is both regrettable, illegal and immoral.

LurkingHusband · 15/03/2017 10:55

Once again all of Europe is talking about nothing else but Brexit ...

Et maintenant, pour le monde réel, c'est un mensonge - personne ne parle de Brexit aujourd'hui en EuropeSmile

woman12345 · 15/03/2017 11:01

@IanDunt
DD: "Stance of Scottish govt on this has been a political one not necessarily in the interests of the people it is meant to represent."

As opposed to?

RedToothBrush · 15/03/2017 11:02

The ideology of Brexit is that the EU is 'the enemy'.

If there is no economic argument, case or assessment then what's left but fascism?

Its the promise of an empty hand.

The 'enemy' is anyone who does not support your belief or draws attention to the empty hand which when discovered unleashes chaos.

RedToothBrush · 15/03/2017 11:10

Genuine Question: What HAS Davis done in the last nine months? Other than avoid asking questions and hire 300 people?

woman12345 · 15/03/2017 11:12

Can't guarantee GFA being reflected in new agreement with EU, under consent agreements of GFA can NI can re join EU? DD refuses to answer

Why can't British gov ratify it, if ROI has?. DD refuses to answer.

Has DD just torn up GFA?

Another win for SF.
SNP and SF doing well out of today.
He doesn't give a flying fuck at a rolling doughnut?

And needs to set up even more enemies, as in above post.by red.

HashiAsLarry · 15/03/2017 11:12

Even more from Ian Dunt:
He warns - keeps doing this on Ireland - that these are sensitive areas. Yes. And that is precisely why you need better answers.
Like catching a burglar in your house and having him accuse you of breaking the vase by surprising him.

Valentine2 · 15/03/2017 11:19

Oh FFS! He HAS done it. They can't show it to public. They tried to save their rule only and screw the country. And they know very well the kind of propaganda it takes to put any spin on it. So they are going to spin this off too and the Leavers will buy it. I would love to hear a Leaver's opinion on David Davis saying “You don’t need a piece of paper with numbers on it to have an economic assessment.”
Can any Leaver tell me what they think of this?

woman12345 · 15/03/2017 11:20

and this:
"Economic models are only as good as the assumptions put into them"
David Davis 15.3.17

Valentine2 · 15/03/2017 11:22

Thanks for the reply. I just don't understand why someone would go to this length if they are an "empty hand"? I just can't understand this. It doesn't make sense. People like these have some kind of motive. What is the motive here? Ultimately it's about money and rule, isn't it? Can we now move the discussion to that?

HashiAsLarry · 15/03/2017 11:23

Regarding costs of new systems etc that will need to be in place and where the budget was coming from on that:
DD says they haven't concluded assessment of costs yet but there will be benefits (free trade with rest of world).
Unicorn tears clearly Hmm

woman12345 · 15/03/2017 11:30

What is the motive here?

It would be so good to know what's been promised and given already to this shower. ( as individuals)

As Caleach posted yesterday, armaments industry stands to make a killing/s in brexit britain. US pharma will be a good investment too.

GreenPeppers · 15/03/2017 11:32

Do you remember, just after the referendum, some analysts were saying that people voted that way because they trusted the system so much that they didn't think anything really bad could ever happen?

Well I think we are proving that the system isn't actually strong enough to be able to cope with such crazy ideas....

woman12345 · 15/03/2017 11:33

@IanDunt

due to this policy. DD answer was that he doesn't believe in forecasts. It's like fucking Benjamin Button. We started as post-Enlightenment

@IanDunt 8m8 minutes ago
We are now regressing through the 1800 and 1700s and will soon be torturing ppl to death because they think the earth revolves around the sun.

drwitch · 15/03/2017 11:44

just in: NIC changes have been dropped!

HashiAsLarry · 15/03/2017 11:46

NIC changes have been dropped!
How quickly they dance to Murdoch's tune

RedToothBrush · 15/03/2017 11:47

Lucy Fisher‏ @LOS_Fisher
Chancellor announces u-turn on NICs changes. Concedes importance of adherence to spirit, as well as letter, of manifesto tax lock vow.

About that manifesto commitment to British interests in the Single Market...

Theresa May has just thrown Philip Hammond under the biggest bus she could find. Incredible stuff.

Hammond to go?
