If you aren't able to do the full route they are suggesting joining at Trafalgar Square at 12:00

LurkingHusband · 24/03/2017 12:50

Last march I went on was 1985 - against Keith Josephs education reforms (which started the drive to tuition fees).

Showing my age there.

Have a cunning route planned to get to Green Park on the tube !

Peregrina · 24/03/2017 13:15

Last march I went on (in London) was in 1992 - also against Education cuts. I particularly recall a banner which said 'This is not what we voted for' with a picture of a pair of scissors. I thought to myself, if you voted Tory then it most certainly is.

Been on pro EU marches in Oxford, but they don't have quite the same clout as mass rallies in London.

Figmentofmyimagination · 24/03/2017 16:24

Last time I did this (the one just after the referendum vote), I just popped up at Oxford Circus tube at about 12 and joined the march in the middle as it went down Regents Street. That seemed to work and is what I thought I would do again. Where is the route map?

fakenamefornow · 24/03/2017 16:37

I've just had a look at a Leave EU facebook group. The out and out racism was awful, I though it was a Britain First page and had to double check. I feel so shocked and shaken by what I read and that these are the people now in charge.

Reading that, I'll be amazed if we don't see mass deportations. I've written a lot about my racist family over the years, they all want deportations. I know loads of Leavers are going to start name calling me, have a look yourself though. Leave EU on facebook. I feel so scared where this is going and think the economy is the least of out worries.

lalalonglegs · 24/03/2017 16:54

Figment - I don't know what march you were on then but the main anti-Brexit one started at Hyde Park Corner and continued to Parliament Square as this one will Smile. I'm going to join at Green Park as I will be with my children and they won't enjoy dawdling at the start. The route is mapped out here.

Figmentofmyimagination · 24/03/2017 17:00

Thanks! I think it must have been green park - that's what I'll do.

Peregrina · 24/03/2017 17:10

Yes, but this is why we MUST protest now. If Leave EU don't like being compared to fascists then they should start policing their facebook pages and websites better. "oh, but we didn't mean you" is there stock excuse.

Peregrina · 24/03/2017 17:42

Their not there.

Itinerary · 24/03/2017 19:56

To be fair, it was Vote Leave, not Leave EU, which was the official campaign for the leave side.

Peregrina · 24/03/2017 22:28

Which one was the outfit which Farage was associated with?

caroldecker · 25/03/2017 00:58

Farage was not part of the official Leave campaign. He does not represent the view of most Leavers, any more than David Cameron is the voice of all Remainers.

Peregrina · 25/03/2017 06:53

I am well aware that Farage's views were regarded as too extreme for the Official Leave campaign. I was asking which outfit he did belong too - which if it was 'Vote Leave' would explain why that group was racist.

Bearbehind · 25/03/2017 10:44

Am at the March- it's disappointingly quiet though.

Best sign do far - 'pulling out never works'

Figmentofmyimagination · 25/03/2017 10:58

We're on our way but will join in green park, probably about 11:45. Hope it's not too small - it was inevitably going to shrink after the events on wed.

Kaija · 25/03/2017 11:07

Will be there in about 10 mins

Kaija · 25/03/2017 11:08

Bear, are you on the move yet? Do you think better to join at Green Park or go to Marble Arch?

Bearbehind · 25/03/2017 11:09

Still outside the Hilton- not moving yet

MsHooliesCardigan · 25/03/2017 11:14

I am joining at Trafalgar Square.

Kaija · 25/03/2017 11:20

Quite a few gathering at Green Park now

whatwouldrondo · 25/03/2017 11:25

Family problems mean I am struggling to set off but I hope to be in or near Trafalgar Square

Bearbehind · 25/03/2017 11:42

Still not left Hyde park yet!

At least the police heliport overhead has joined in though- it's yellow and blue!

Bearbehind · 25/03/2017 11:46

Helicopter not heliport

Bearbehind · 25/03/2017 11:53

I'm not cut out to be a protester- punctuality is clearly not their thing

Still not moving!

Kaija · 25/03/2017 11:57

Argh - wish we'd come to Hyde park - we're waiting for you all at Green Park. What is the atmosphere like?
