InfiniteSheldon · 16/01/2017 09:33

Yes Informal I do and moreover voted Leave with the full expectation of that scenario.

InfiniteSheldon · 16/01/2017 09:34

InformalRoman · 16/01/2017 09:40

And how many years will negotiating new WTO tariff agreements take? And who will negotiate them for the UK?

DebbieDownersGiveItARest · 16/01/2017 10:02

What Good news to wake up to this am. Great news. Huge. Personally with everything going on in Trumps crazy life I am amazed that little old UK and Brexit seems to be so much on his agenda.

Brilliant back up in the face of the EU. Smile

MuseumOfCurry · 16/01/2017 10:07

It's only 10am, but I could probably muster a white wine spritzer?

I'm new to the thread. Have the Bremainers yet made sense of all the good economic news we're hearing post-apocalypse?

InfiniteSheldon · 16/01/2017 10:08

@Informal as long as they take but and its a big but those trade talks will be conducted with an end result wanted by both parties; talks with the EU are with one side trousering large sums to keep the talks going and no desire to end the status quo and the other side (us) continuing to foot a large part of the bill for both sides. As for who I personally am not qualified to answer that, have no need to answer that and think it's a pretty asinine question. I imagine we will find someone unless you actually believe we are a nation of cretins?

InfiniteSheldon · 16/01/2017 10:10

Philip Hammond was pretty awesome yesterday as well just had this posted on my FB page

Love that meme Infinite Grin

DebbieDownersGiveItARest · 16/01/2017 10:22

Great poster - meme - Infinite. Smile

Just reading about Hammonds interview in "Welt am Sonntag" described as a bomb going off in Berlin.

"I’m told the Welt am Sonntag journalists were so surprised by the tone of these remarks that they called the Treasury afterwards to check that the Chancellor really wanted to say all this on the record. The response was: Yes, he does"

And as I said yesterday "it is also, in part, a negotiating tactic. The main reason David Cameron got such a pathetic deal in his so-called ‘renegotiation of our EU membership’ was that he was never prepared to walk away from the table. And Brussels knew it"

InformalRoman · 16/01/2017 10:23

No we are not a nation of cretins. But nor are we a nation of experienced trade negotiators.

"I imagine we will find someone". So that's OK then.

I'm sure the EU would be quite happy to start negotiations - it's up to the UK to trigger that and therefore it's the UK that controls how long we continue to pay in.

InfiniteSheldon · 16/01/2017 10:34

Great so we are agreeing bring on A50 and lets get going. Brew for me green if poss bit early for a drink but there's definitely a positive mood at Sheldon Towers

InformalRoman · 16/01/2017 10:39

I'm not agreeing to anything, just pointing out that it's up to the UK to commence the process.

DebbieDownersGiveItARest · 16/01/2017 10:53

I can't have green tea so early Infinite, English Breakfast for am then later on a few cups of Green Dragon Wells, leaf tea. Smile I also purchased a new matcha green tea powder.....which is interesting.

InfiniteSheldon · 16/01/2017 10:59

DebbieDownersGiveItARest · 16/01/2017 11:04

Lots of discussion on the ethics of Goves interview with Trump on Westminders and nothing on the innards of that interview.

howabout · 16/01/2017 11:21

Samira Ahmed musing on the need for a Ladybird approach to Brexit

www.samiraahmed.co.uk/ladybird-books-constructing-the-future-past-of-modern-britain/

"Ladybird books remind Brexit Britain how it was people who’d endured horror who had the ambition not to focus on fear, but to build a brighter, fairer future."

SemiPermanent · 16/01/2017 15:08

That's a brilliant article howabout, thanks for that! Smile
