Juts caught some of it - had to watch a little historic moment, wow.

SemiPermanent · 17/01/2017 12:27

I like Theresa May tbh, and I'm pleased she's PM for this.

Ripping up workers rights? Clear no.

Border between Ireland & NI? Clear no.

Give all EU citizens living here the certainty of staying? Clear yes (but EU won't agree as yet to reciprocate).

Leave single market? Clear yes.

Leave customs union? Clear yes.

Being spiteful to EU? Clear no.

Involving all devolved govts in whole process? Clear yes.

Stopping freedom of movement? Clear yes.

"We want the EU to be a success...but also Britain".

"Britain wants to be a good friend and neighbour to Europe...but [paraphrased] don't try to fuck us over, because no deal is better than a bad deal as far as we're concerned"

time4chocolate · 17/01/2017 12:28

Arrgghh still stuck at work Angry so only been able to grab a very few snippets. I should be finished shortly and then I'll be able to digest everything fully.

time4chocolate · 17/01/2017 12:30

Thanks for the summary Semi Smile

SemiPermanent · 17/01/2017 12:31

They hate it on the other thread....

Doubletrouble99 · 17/01/2017 12:51

They certainly do Semi! I'm amazed at the comments, the fact that some are so insular they can't even bear to watch! Others seem to think it is all pie in the sky - why? Explain please. They are all on about unicorns again.

InfiniteSheldon · 17/01/2017 12:51

Quickly touching base in my lunch break thanks for the summary semi Smile

SemiPermanent · 17/01/2017 12:53

Wee Tim Farron's on the telly at the mo - he's very cross - like an angry wee puppet!

SemiPermanent · 17/01/2017 13:01

Explain please.

Because misery loves company Double...

surferjet · 17/01/2017 13:04

Stopping freedom of movement? Clear yes

Brilliant!

Doubletrouble99 · 17/01/2017 13:06

Certainly does Semi. Yes wee Tim Fallon looks like he is going to burst a blood vessel! He was so incensed!

What TM has just outlined is exactly what I was looking for so it would be interesting to hear from more leavers to see if it was their vision as opposed to what wee Tim is trying to suggest.

SemiPermanent · 17/01/2017 13:10

What she suggests is perfectly fair & reasonable to me - I'm happy Smile

SemiPermanent · 17/01/2017 13:12

I cocked up a bit with the customs union bit - she said:

Not a member, but would like to have access to.

WrongTrouser · 17/01/2017 13:17

Just popping in for a quick half and to say hello all Smile. Haven't seen the full speech yet, but pleased with what I've heard so far.

takesnoprisoners · 17/01/2017 13:17

This is exactly what I voted for.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/01/2017 13:19

From the bits I've managed to catch on the car radio, I'm very happy with what she's said.

Pound highest it's been since referendum day. I think I heard that right.

howabout · 17/01/2017 13:24

The 12 point plan per the BBC

The 12 point plan:

  1. We will provide certainty wherever we can.
  1. Leaving the European Union will mean that our laws will be made in Westminster, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast.
  1. A stronger Britain demands that we strengthen the precious union between the four nations of the United Kingdom.
  1. We will deliver a practical solution that allows the maintenance of the commons travel area with the Republic of Ireland.
  1. Brexit must mean control of the number of people who come to Britain from Europe.
  1. We want to guarantee rights of EU citizens living in Britain & rights of British nationals in other member states, as early as we can.
  1. Not only will the Government protect the rights of workers set out in European legislation, we will build on them.
  1. We will pursue a bold and ambitious Free Trade Agreement with the European Union.
  1. It is time for Britain to get out into the world and rediscover its role as a great, global, trading nation.
  1. We will welcome agreement to continue to collaborate with our European partners on major science, research and technology initiatives.

  2. We will continue to work closely with our European allies in foreign and defence policy even as we leave the EU itself.

  3. We believe a phased process of implementation will be in the interests of Britain, the EU institutions and member states.

Exactly what I had in mind when I voted. Clearly throwing down the gauntlet to NS. I say bring on Indyref2 so me and the 55% + in Scotland can get on and provide some clarity for strengthening devolution within Brexit.

Inkanta · 17/01/2017 13:40

I'll drink to that - cheers! Wine

Doubletrouble99 · 17/01/2017 13:44

Cheers !!

surferjet · 17/01/2017 13:51

Regulars - lurker(s)

This is a good day. Victory for normal average people, the people they all ignored & called 'racist bigot' & the mere mention of controlling immigration. We won in the end, because common sense always does.

Wine
time4chocolate · 17/01/2017 14:20

Ok caught up now, I thought that was a very good speech. She is obviously another woman not for turning and has more balls than a lot of male MPs (I'm looking at you George Osbourne and David Cameron). Also an astute move to put the final deal before parliament and the lords.

I do wonder if her resolve was hardened further when she went to Brussels and was cold shouldered - she got a taste of exactly what they are like.

time4chocolate · 17/01/2017 14:23

Oops forgot to add Wine

InfiniteSheldon · 17/01/2017 14:25

Bloody fantastic exactly what I hoped for when voting Wine

SemiPermanent · 17/01/2017 14:58

David Davis is doing well in HoC too - I'm a fan of his as well as TM.
