I agree about having a more light hearted thread as well has the Westministers one, as long as it's for all, not just Leavers Grin

Thanks for the reply wrt paying for Single Market access wrong. I do find it interesting that people are so desperate to leave the EU they're willing to accept things they don't really want.

I guess it would make more sense if I could understand what people perceive to be so bad about the EU but nothing I've heard over the last 6 months has begun to convince me that the advantages of leaving outweigh the disadvantages.

Bear, I have decided you are a reluctant leaver - you just haven't admitted it to yourself yet WinkGrin

Lord Neuberger musing in anticipation of the HoC's A50 vote yesterday “To the man in the street it sounds a bit odd if one says to the Government you have to go back to Parliament to have an act of Parliament passed to show what Parliament’s will is when you have already been to Parliament and had a motion before both Houses which serves the notice."

“It does seem a bit odd doesn’t it?”

Bearbehind · 08/12/2016 12:33

Lol mango, that would make you a closet Remainer!

Just to prove the Neubergers have the same sort of issues as the Bercows a quite thoughtful piece on judicial independence.

Been out all morning watching angels and shepherds. Does anyone know what tie Lord Sumption has plumped for?

MangoMoon · 08/12/2016 12:45

I haven't looked!
I'm supposed to be doing homework & revision but I've been loafing a bit for the last hour or so...

The Supreme Court stuff is interesting - I was reading a bit about it yesterday.
It definitely is a big old clusterfuck at the mo.

All because the politicians are, and have been (collectively) a bit shit.

howabout · 08/12/2016 12:57

DH laughing at me using the Supreme Court case as a chance to brush up on my Constitutional Law which I haven't really focused on for 30 years. A bit shocking really since everyone else in Scotland is OBSESSED with the Constitution. Xmas Blush

Shopping with my mummy in Homebase this morning. She spotted that price tags displayed the prices in both € and £ then pursed her lips like a world champion lemon sucker & said, "at least we won't have to put up with that anymore". Mine's a stiff one, fnarr fnarr

Saw this & thought of this thread!

"...And last week Justice Neuberger, a former law lord who declined to move to the new institution and was appointed Master of the Rolls, warned it could have dangerous unintended consequences.
Creating the Supreme Court amounted to "frivolous" tinkering with the Constitution and appeared to have been dreamt up "over a glass of whisky" by the former prime minister Tony Blair, he said..."
