Teresa May or Andrea Leadsom?

So without starting anything too politically fraught I wonder if people would share with me who they prefer for conservative leadership out of the two.

The race is now down to them and so we will have a female PM again!

Opinions?

May.

She's a difficult woman.
Can you imagine Leadsom simpering next to Merkel or Juncker?
They will wipe the floor with her.

Or standing up to Putin.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 07/07/2016 20:45

She played a part in creating this mess and now she really needs to put the gun down now and walk away before she does any more damage. She's not even in the cabinet and has no experience of this high a level of government.

Yes, she has to hang her head in shame and go somewhere quiet for a while while the grown ups sort out er mess.
After publishing her tax return and her real CV.

crossroads3 · 07/07/2016 20:48

you mean she helped to realize the will of the people?

Not the will of the people. 37% of the electorate against 35% who voted no. After a campaign with lies on both sides. A yes/no question on an issue which was too complex an issue for people to vote on IMO. Settled EU citizens excluded from the vote as well as 16 and 17 year olds.

Especially when you consider that it was little more than an opinion poll and that based on this tiny majority we are apparently now going to make massive and irreversible constitutional, social, political and economic changes.

Leadsom would be the final nail in the coffin of the UK's badly battered and rapidly disappearing credibility.
So reluctantly, May for me as well.

This is no victory for anyone, women or no

This.

God, what a mess Brexit has made of everything.

crossroads3 · 07/07/2016 20:50

What's the conspiracy voyage? Genuine question.

ToastDemon · 07/07/2016 20:51

Yes I'm curious about the conspiracy as well!

Nightstalker · 07/07/2016 20:59

Fuck up the country until a civil war maybe?

Only Tory members pre 9th June get a vote. Save your £25

chicaguapa · 07/07/2016 21:15

As I seem to be living in a psychotic reverse universe at the moment, my money's on Andrea Loathsome.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 07/07/2016 21:24

chica, dh just had a similar discussion. He said "so it'll be Leadsom then" - after a discussion on how bad Leadsom is.

I said, "judging by my wishes -vs- recent votes, yes".

Mwahaha, I got in before that. Never voted Tory in my life or would ever, but it was my Brexit plan B.

I might do a protest vote for Andrea just for a laugh.

Rockandroll you call it 'the will of the people', I call it a mess. We need someone with actual experience of government. She's been an MP for 6 years. I'm all for giving people chances who may lack experience, but this is the biggest job in the country, coupled with the fact she's got to negotiate our exit, and frankly I just don't trust her. We need a safe pair of hands not a liability.

claig · 07/07/2016 21:38

There is no conspiracy about Leadsom because the Establishment don't want her to win. The Establishment has backed May to win, she is their candidate. Leadsom is not a puppet which is why the Establishment don't want her to win.

Leadsom has come from nowhere, hardly any of the public knew her, but her common sense matter of fact debating style made her stand out against all of the other politicians. Leadsom will be very popular with Conservative members, but not Establishment MPs.

She is being billed as the next Thatcher with conservative vlues rather than Establishment values.

Pendu · 07/07/2016 21:39

It's abit scary to think of aaaaall the people in aaaaalll of the UK and we don't have just one person who we can somewhat confidently say could run this country. Seeing this line up makes me feel sad about Cameron, such a shame he didn't stay or wasn't a brexiter because it shows how good actually he was at what he does (IMHO).
I would pick May over the other one but I can't help but feel a remainer shouldn't be talking over

Maz2444466 · 07/07/2016 21:40

Looks like it's going to be May from tonight's number, is there any way Leadsom could win now?

squoosh · 07/07/2016 21:44

Well yes, if the wider party membership decide they prefer her. I've seen footage of Tory members in the wild, they're an odd and volatile lot.

claig · 07/07/2016 21:44

'is there any way Leadsom could win now?'

Yes, it is all down to members not Establishment MPs, just as it was for Corbyn's election where he was a 100-1 outsider and still won.

What will happen is what the media did to David Davies which allowed the relatively unknown Etonian, Cameron, to win.

The media and BBC will pan Leadsom, say she makes rubbish speeches, say she is not up to the job etc and they will praise May to the rafters and the BBC will invite Establishmentarians onto the BBC to extol May's virtues.

But it may not work because the public is in rebellious mood and understands the BBC and Establishment game.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 07/07/2016 21:45

voyage have you been reading Ben Elton? Grin

Chippednailvarnishing · 07/07/2016 21:47

This thread has had me chortling.
Do you want to eat a live tarantula or fellate John McCririck?

And if May and Leadsom weren't a crap enough choice on the other side there is Corbyn. Which is like being given a third option of choosing to fellate a tarantula.
