Teresa May or Andrea Leadsom?

So without starting anything too politically fraught I wonder if people would share with me who they prefer for conservative leadership out of the two.

The race is now down to them and so we will have a female PM again!

Opinions?

Minimammoth Amazing- I remember the groundbreaking womens' conference in Beijing,1995. This realisation (if it happens) will bring tears of joy to many.

NotYoda · 07/07/2016 18:40

Erk!!

May. If I have to

NotYoda · 07/07/2016 18:42

I'm musing whether it would be wrong to join the Conservatives to keep the other one out ....... Grin

Cinnamon2013 · 07/07/2016 18:43

I don't see the victory for women, I'm afraid. This is a case of 'we fought, we trashed everything, it's all broken - you can have a turn now.' Leadership is a poisoned chalice here and that's the only reason women are allowed a go. I guess there was Gove, but he was a pretty shit contender.

Sixweekstowait · 07/07/2016 18:45

I'm in Denmark at the moment. The local paper doesn't know its Andrea from its Theresa. But re AL - not only is her CV a bit iffy but what about her earlier life - didn't graduate until 24 and can find nothing about her working life after thst before she starts in the city - several years unaccounted for. May will be better for country -AL would be an unmitigated disaster

Teresa May or Andrea Leadsom?
StatisticallyChallenged · 07/07/2016 18:46

Another parallel universe but it's got to be May for me too. I think we need someone who is properly experienced and I think a soft remainer is probably far better than a hard Brexiter who will trigger article 50 immediately.

I'm not so sure the Tories will go for the hard Brexit option though, she's too right for even some pro brexit people IME. I think with the state of the markets there will be plenty of pro brexit tories who, even if they are still pro exit, will appreciate the need to handle it with caution.

Theresa May, obviously. But I don't trust Tory members to make the sensible choice. A year ago, no-one thought Corbyn would be elected, I think this contest could go the same way.
If we end up in a Leadsom/Trump situation, I'm emigrating to Jupiter.

HooseRice · 07/07/2016 18:51

Neither, they're both atrocious cunts.

annandale · 07/07/2016 18:52

I trust May to make fairly rational decisions, even if from a profoundly illiberal and sneakily populist place that normally I would be horrified to see anywhere near No 10.

I just don't think Leadsom is tested enough for this job. She didn't even answer my fantastic question on the webchat FFS Angry

ShowOfHands · 07/07/2016 18:52

That's a personal attack and not in the spirit of the site. Take it back! Grin

milpool · 07/07/2016 18:54

Cinnamon I agree.

It's a fucking awful choice to have to make. They're both horrendous.

May will obviously get it but I dread what's to come when she does. This is no victory for anyone, women or no.

ShowOfHands · 07/07/2016 18:54

That was to holly. Obvs.

I've been called some things in my time but sheesh...

DetestableHerytike · 07/07/2016 18:57

May. She has the most experience.

Gove doesn't have any bargaining chips to get a plum post. He's lost and his supporters are already picking one side or another.

AyeAmarok · 07/07/2016 18:58

May.

Leadsom might be alright, but has nowhere near the level of experience needed. Is she not just a relatively junior minister? Give her a promotion to secretary of state of some sort and see how she gets on.

I am very excited at the prospect of a May/Merkel/Clinton working group!

Just a shame that Ms. May's chance has come when she first has to clean up the huge mess the men left. Typical.

BertrandRussell · 07/07/2016 19:00

Doesn't matter. They are both just there to be cannon fodder until the Brexit thing calms down a bit then they will get a "proper" leader-aka another old Etonian.

Donatellalymanmoss · 07/07/2016 19:03

I'm trying really hard to be excited about a female PM, really I am.

milpool · 07/07/2016 19:07

Donatella personally I could just never be excited by a Tory PM.

hollyisalovelyname · 07/07/2016 19:11

Or Michael Gove ?
I mean to compare those two ladies to tarantulas and an unmentionable part of John Mc C's anatomy!!!
Boy, was Gove out manouverd..

bertsdinner · 07/07/2016 19:32

Theresa May, she's pragmatic and I think she would be a good PM.

Peregrina · 07/07/2016 19:58

Gove got exactly what he deserved.

RedToothBrush · 07/07/2016 20:16

I want to know what kind of person has reverse fantasies about live tarantula and John McCririck?!!!

I don't trust who Leadsom would have in her cabinet. Johnson and Gove are realistic options. (Otherwise known at the Unholy Trinity)

May, for whatever you think of her, will make better decisions on that front.

Normandy144 · 07/07/2016 20:36

Not Leadsom. Far too trigger happy. She played a part in creating this mess and now she really needs to put the gun down now and walk away before she does any more damage. She's not even in the cabinet and has no experience of this high a level of government.

My worry is, how many of the party membership are Brexiteers? Presumably we don't know. If it's the majority then I can well see them giving her a chance.

RockandRollsuicide · 07/07/2016 20:39

I'm still slightly reeling from the fact it will be a Tory woman PM again. WTF were Labour doing with all their shortlists and equality drives ?

They drove a pink bus around, whilst Milliband told us all his Father was an immigrant.

RockandRollsuicide · 07/07/2016 20:40

She played a part in creating this mess and now she really needs to put the gun down now and walk away before she does any more damage

Hmm you mean she helped to realize the will of the people?
