March? What march?

Can anyone else find much news coverage of this 'democratic march against democracy'? Twitter is full of info, but tune into the news channels and you would be forgiven for thinking it wasnt happening. Kind of has the ring of 'nobody cares' really doesnt it?

A number of marchers posting on twitter seem to think they are geographically being removed from Europe, although I guess you could forgive them given the odd name given to the march itself 'March for europe'

Why is it not 'March for E.U'? Isnt that what they are really there for? Anyone else as confused as I am?

I can see that the remain side are intellectual heavyweights

That's great, The Future! I'm glad you're amused. I felt equally happy reading the stories' online comments from Brexiters who are not in any way troubled by people exercising their democratic right to protest. There were so many great jokes about dummies and prams! What they lacked in originality, they made up for in sheer volume and multiple exclamation marks!

And I don't know how a few tasteless signs could ever compete with the quiet, restrained dignity of:

and here we have the mindless minority with plans fully loaded, preset insults and blinkers on ready to March into Auschwitsch Zwei under Merkel steamroller iron fisted dictatorship rather than stubby tash himself!!!!!:((((

or

What a big joke thay just bad losers . We dont do this when ever thay win . Just bad losers crying the lot of them . Its like a lot of kids throwing there toys out the pram just because thay lost the eu vote . If thay like the eu that much then move out the uk .

or

Its time these doughballs moved on andfought for unity to improve our general situation and not something that was ,the futures bright now all they have to do is help to mKe sure it stays that way..The EU was collapsing before we had the referendum and it wont be long before it gives way..We are well rid of it also it looks like turkey is being given visas now well ahead of schedule

or

Oh here we go..what a load of chappy brainless idiots supporting, dictation, control, bulling, loss of their country, lost of a voice and lost of our history..bugger off you lot and get a brain in your bloody heads!!!

Imagine the wonderful signs these people would make. I'd be so proud to march alongside them.

But... Spice Girls jokes? Come on, Bremainers. That's just tasteless.

I think it is a very British thing to use humour to express oneself.

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/07/2016 16:58

I particularly liked the large sign which was being carried in the background of one of the BBC live coverage segments - a large sign with Gove, Bojo and Farage and the caption "Utter Cockwombles"

*it might have been a different word before cockwombles, but it was defo cockwombles!

MelanieCheeks · 02/07/2016 16:59

Please tell me there was a sign using the word "omnishambles"!

whydidhesaythat · 02/07/2016 17:00

Last Friday the Spice Girls one was the first thing to make me smile

Anyway,. let's rise above the nasty messages quoted and just be grateful the march was a success. Peaceful, And hopefully the first of many such.

That "suck" banner does seem odd though..... maybe he had a more relevant slogan on the other side and turned it round by accident?

Thefuturecouldbebright · 02/07/2016 17:00

Melanie... Did you mean 'European'?

If it's anything like the Marches against the War, they'll report that there was maybe 10,000 people. Hmm

At the Glasgow anti-war march, Glasgow Green not a small place was still chockablock with people waiting to move onto the road when the car park at the SECC, 3 miles away, was full with people having arrived there. The roads between are wide, yet were filled with the people peacefully marching from the Green to the SECC.

I've run in the London Marathon. I know what 25,000 people looks like. There were a lot more than that; at one point on St Vincent Street you could see about a mile of solid bodies and knew that there were 2 more miles of the same plus 2 large public spaces full of people.

The police said there were 15,000 Confused

I subsequently read a letter saying as the police had policed for 15,000, ergo there were only 15,000 which explained a lot Hmm

whydidhesaythat · 02/07/2016 17:01

What is a cockwomble anyway?

glitterbomb80 · 02/07/2016 17:07

30,000 according to the Guardian.
