Seriously? majority of people who voted for leave wanted control of our borders, we brought into your story of an Australian style point system now it seems there's still going be freedom of labour movement which is basically the same thing expect they get less legal rights.

I didn't just vote leave for immigration but yes it was a big reason and if I known this, if remain had a better hammered this home I bet MANY leave voters would not have voted the way they did. If anything if this happens, many leave voters will join the remain voters in rage at the lies we been fed. (NHS, Immigration)

I have been a vocal leave supporter on here but now I am feeling pretty scared about what I have voted for. I blame the remain campaign for having an totally shit and ineffective campaign and Cameron should never have been the leader of the remain camp, as majority of people despise him and don't take any notice of what he says.

"I didn't just vote leave for immigration but yes it was a big reason and if I known this, "

How can you not have known this? It was everywhere...

Don't forget, it's all ok as you're going to make Britain 'Great' again 👏

TheVermiciousKnid · 25/06/2016 16:45

And if the French put an end to the agreement that allows British passport etc checks in Calais that would make the problem (if you consider it a problem, I don't particularly) worse.

On the other hand, net migration might fall if lots of disgruntled Brits and Europeans currently living in Britain end up leaving. (I'm considering it.)

TheWindInThePillows · 25/06/2016 16:46

I agree with Rebecca that this was not tackled well by Remain, and the 'take back control' stuff by Leave seemed plausible...(I'm Remain voter)...

but...did you not wonder why non-EU migration was also out of control? And if we couldn't control that, how could we hope to get on top of EU migration if it came under full domestic policy control?

MassiveStrumpet · 25/06/2016 16:46

Nothing is going to change except UK passports are less useful and London will no longer be the economic capital of the EU.

You are all just less significant, now.

MrsSpecter · 25/06/2016 16:46

So youre furious at yourself for not understanding what you were voting for Rebecca?

Well, I'd be furious with myself if i'd been so stupid too.

TheVermiciousKnid · 25/06/2016 16:47

You are all just less significant, now.

No, no, no, you've got that all wrong: Britain is Great again now! And back in control!

What a crock of shite.

Another mp confirming what Daniel Hannan said.

You cannot say some blame shouldn't be placed on the remain campaign door, over 17 million people voted for leave and a large percentage of that was because they brought into the leave side lies. I never saw the remain side effectively combat the leave argument of immigration or the NHS, they always let it go or seem defeated.

Most people don't go online researching everything each side has said...

All I know is there is going be a hell of a lot of angry people from both sides.

I'll agree that the remain campaign fucked up royally, but this was all over the place before the referendum.

If you want to trade with the EU, you need to agree with their terms and conditions. That includes the rules and regulations and freedom of movement. And you lose the right to veto.

insancerre · 25/06/2016 16:48

What was that they said about the leave voters being mostly uneducated?
That can't be true, can it?

shabbychic1 · 25/06/2016 16:49

Well I had read and heard about keeping borders open like other non EU countries do to keep trade several times and I didn't even follow it very closely! This is why the remain voters are getting so frustrated! Making a massive life changing decision with huge financial impacts on the whole country ( but not believing that when Cameron stated it time and time again!) without looking into it!

YourPerception · 25/06/2016 16:49

I put a cross to leave the EU as I don't like the EU. I didn't see an option to reduce immigration or on economic choices.

Both sides mislead people. Had remain win their voters too would be furious.

Brandonstarkflakes · 25/06/2016 16:50

You are joking yes?

How the fucking fuck can this only becoming a surprise to anyone now?

The thing is, even if you are just being goady I think there probably are a lot of people out there who honestly think that leaving the EU now will mean we immediately close our borders to anyone else who wants to come here.

And what happens when that doesn't come to fruition? What happens to all that hatred that has been whipped up in this country as a result of scapegoating immigrants for all society's ills?

This thread reads like a kind of satire to prove that leave voters are all stupid and didn't think it through, but I'm sure it's not.

Yes, just as remain consistently said, Brexit will not stop immigration. It's hard to see why Calais might try that hard to keep the jungle where it is now.

Thank you for acknowledging your mistake

Grin

You sure about that? Not the Leave campaign for spinning shit about how we'd be able to 'control our borders'?

You could also have made an educated guess along the lines of

  • the UK would want/need to remain part of the single market
  • Norway etc have to accept free movement in order to remain part of the single market
  • ergo...

Be careful what you wish or vote for in future, eh?

FoggyBottom · 25/06/2016 16:52

OP with a bit of research you could have confirmed this for yourself. It's public knowledge that if we want trade deals, and entrance into the EEA, then we have to ensure freedom of movement. Its what is required of other EEA countries. Why did you not know this?

It's things like this that contribute to the impression that a lot of Leave voters were basically uninformed and xenophobic (with an added dash of racism and/or stupidity in some cases).

MassiveStrumpet · 25/06/2016 16:53

I remember the Remain side saying these things all very clearly.I didn't do any special study of the subject. I just listened to Radio 4 a couple of times and exercised some common sense

People just stuck their fingers in their ears and shouted "SCAREMONGERING!"

Valentine2 · 25/06/2016 16:54

I haven't met anyone yet either who say they voted Remain and regret it now. It's terrible to see how many on Leave camp are actually understanding the argument of Remain side only NOW. Too late . Try and sign on the 2nd referendum now OP . It's still democracy if people ask for second referendum and get it.

longdiling · 25/06/2016 16:54

So you admit the side YOU chose to vote for lied and yet it's the fault of the other side for not loudly enough descrying those lies? Do you place any blame on the Leave campaigners? Do you take any responsibility for your own decision? Every debate I watched in the run up had the Remain side rebutting all the lies the Leavers were coming out with. They were stood there on TV shaking their heads and interjecting with 'Lies! This is all lies!' at one point!! Where were YOU getting your information from?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 25/06/2016 16:55

Me too massivestrumpet

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the stupidity on display in the OP.
