PETITION FOR A SECOND REFERENDUM - 1 million + signatures already

GertrudeBelle · 25/06/2016 11:10

A parliamentary petition has been created calling for a second referendum. As I type, it already has 1,061,466 signatures and the number is growing rapidly so it will have to be taken seriously.

I would urge everyone who is concerned about the consequences of yesterday's result to sign it. It only takes a minute. Get your friends and family to sign too.

There's also a map showing the location of the signatories. There are some key Remain territories which don't seem to have picked this up - particularly Scotland and Northern Ireland. Please spread the word. Map here:

I have signed the petition but I'm not sure what good it will do.

Jannerite · 26/06/2016 23:36

The chances of a 2nd EU referendum are very slim, regardless of how many signatures that petition recieves. Also anybody can sign it as many times as they want, and they don't even have to be in the UK. This is a democratic society, not a betting shop - it's not best of 3! The revolt would be huge. Is that what everybody really wants? Hmm

It only came to me the other day why the remainers are so adamament at ignoring the vote of the majority. It's because they are in favour of one of the most anti-democratic societies around - the EU.

From Boris's (admittedly quite well written) article in the Telegraph:

You mean the one that he ripped off Churchill and didn't say anything at all in, just waved a flag a bit?

That article?

Fuck me, you are easily conned persuaded.

Sunsetplumset · 26/06/2016 23:49

the petition is being investigated for fraud because people from aboard signing it.
Well done.

RepentAtLeisure · 26/06/2016 23:52

Brits temporarily living abroad and people from the likes of Gibraltar aren't allowed to vote?

I can't imagine why many people without a stake in this would care?

Schwabischeweihnachtskanne · 26/06/2016 23:52

Puzzled Boris is not the comedy character he sometimes finds it useful to present to the world, he is an intelligent and amoral professional journalist-politician who only believes in Boris Johnson, of course his article is well written. He has won numerous prizes for his writing and he is the epitome of a journalist politician - he has a way with words. Doesn't mean he eans anything he says.

www.reuters.com/article/us-britain-eu-boris-idUSKCN0W33ZE

He said once in a radio 4 interview that "I found was sort of chucking these rocks over the garden wall and I listened to this amazing crash from the greenhouse next door over in England as everything I wrote from Brussels was having this amazing, explosive effect on the Tory party, and it really gave me this I suppose rather weird sense of power."

and those who knew him apparently wouldn't trust him as far as they could throw him to actually say what he meant - everything he says is to create an effect:

"Boris felt before others that euroscepticism was an incredibly good mine for media," said Lamy, who later went on to be the head of the World Trade Organisation.

"Whether he had any adherence to the belief that the EU is a danger to the UK, I never thought that. He is too clever for that. He just found a way to make himself known."

Have you seen how rapidly the number of signatories is increasing? It's really encouraging and they have brought in anti-fraud measures to ensure every signature is genuine. I just keep clicking Refresh and it makes me so happy. Grin

Collymollypuff · 27/06/2016 01:29

3,556,006 signatures

Feckin awesome

Collymollypuff · 27/06/2016 01:48

3,557,254 signatures

BMW6 · 27/06/2016 01:50

What a pity for you that the petition is not retroactive. Hmm

BMW6 · 27/06/2016 01:52

All you need to do now is just travel back in time so these conditions are in place ready for 23 June 2016

Collymollypuff · 27/06/2016 01:56

I think 18 million is achievable.

Collymollypuff · 27/06/2016 02:29

3,559,246 signatures

dizzyfucker · 27/06/2016 03:08

I'm losing the will to care.

I'm remain. I'll not vote again,. The people spoke, the votes were cast. It's time to move forward. Britain is already a global laughing stock. A vote to remain now will not repair the damage.

neverknowinglywrong · 27/06/2016 03:59

Why does the number of signatures make people happy?

Do you realise the petition is not for a second referendum?

Do you realise the 'rule' it refers to isn't actually a law?

It's embarrassing how many people (3.5 million!) clearly do not understand this!

OrangesandLemonsNow · 27/06/2016 05:51

3,559,246 signatures

Of which a large proportion are false but hey ho.

Let's see how many more signatures can come from the Vatican City. Let's face it there have only been 48 times more signatures from there than the actual population.

WaspsandBeesSting · 27/06/2016 05:52

If you think it is going to make the slightest bit of difference then you are deluded.

Littlemisslovesspiders · 27/06/2016 05:53

Have you seen how rapidly the number of signatories is increasing?

Have you seen that people on here have even admitted to have signed it more than once.

How democratic.

Tanith · 27/06/2016 06:52

"Do you realise the petition is not for a second referendum?**

Why do you assume people 3.5 million don't understand what they're signing?

After all, according to Leave, everyone understood what they were voting for last Thursday!
Or do you think people are uninformed and stupid? After all, the petition was set up by a Leave campaigner and Leave supporters have signed it.
Did you think they were all Remainers?

RoseDeGambrinus · 27/06/2016 07:02

The petition has been massively hacked by 4Chan apparently with automated signatures. A nasty 'joke'. So the number of real signatures may well be less than a million. Still large compared to most, I imagine, given the publicity and the proportion of people in this country devastated by the result.

Grassgreendashhabi · 27/06/2016 07:12

Second EU referendum petition investigated for fraud
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-36634407

GinIsIn · 27/06/2016 07:43

Actually it was found that it was necessary to remove less than 80,000 signatures, so the 3.6m it currently stands at is the total after it was investigated and pared back.

Grassgreendashhabi · 27/06/2016 07:44

Fennel - it says 70k have been removed and Now they are looking at the rest as there seems to be more from outside UK .

neverknowinglywrong · 27/06/2016 07:59

Because of threads like this, Tanith, where people think that the more people sign it, the more chance of a second referendum...
