PETITION FOR A SECOND REFERENDUM - 1 million + signatures already

A parliamentary petition has been created calling for a second referendum. As I type, it already has 1,061,466 signatures and the number is growing rapidly so it will have to be taken seriously.

I would urge everyone who is concerned about the consequences of yesterday's result to sign it. It only takes a minute. Get your friends and family to sign too.

Link here:

There's also a map showing the location of the signatories. There are some key Remain territories which don't seem to have picked this up - particularly Scotland and Northern Ireland. Please spread the word. Map here:

So why do people piss themselves on here at any proposed cuts to benefits, etc?

Country is in debt, we have to cut expenditure.

D'you know how much debt they got themselves into? £320 billion.

If you get into debt you have to cut expenditure, as any fule no.

What would you have done instead?

Because the EU could have just let them crash out of the Euro, and that would have been far, far worse.

You're right about the Greek austerity measures being difficult, NowWhat ... but then, if they hadn't gone on a Weimar Republic-style spending binge the instant they joined the EU, perhaps it wouldn't have been necessary?

It bailed them out on the condition they imposed harsh austerity measures that fucked the people over even more.

They didnt give them those bailouts for nothing.

bailouts are also illegal in the EU.

Newsflash: Boris, Gove and Farage don't give a shit about anyone and don't have a plan.

The EU bailed out Greece to the tune of €240 billion, how is that not giving a shit?

What, as in "conjugate the verb to go" ? Or maybe, in this case, that should be the verb to leave Wink

Take control of your own destiny & stop treating the EU like some kind of god.

Exactly. The EU doesnt give a shit about anyone: look at Greece and the southern med. Rife unemployment and what are they doing about it.

You are all individuals!

Take control of your own destiny

In that case why are you parroting Boris?

The reality is that you've lost control. Boris has no plan. We have no PM.
No-one knows what the fuck's going on.

What you're going to end up with is pretty much what you had before, but no power.

Getting a 2nd referendum, is like all the leaders of the Commonwealth counties getting together and voting to become members of "The British Empire". It's just not going to happen.

I'm glad it got to 4 million, I bet lots of other people are too.

But Angela says she wouldn't have us back if we asked now, so I guess it's of symbolic value only :(

Getting back to the numbers on the petition, this is absolutely priceless: apparently there are over 3000 from the British Overseas Territory of South Georgia, which has a permanent population of zero

Oh, and a quick google shows that Devon Island in Canada is claimed to be the largest uninhabited island in the world ... I wonder how many votes that one's responsible for?? Grin Grin

Smile It's nice not to be faced with a barrage of Grrr and an extended argument over a minor disagreement or misunderstanding. Thanks.

Well, I did get that quote from a University political science site, amongst other places.

Fascism as an ideology isn't a dictatorship. Fascist dictatorships exist. Most fascist states are/become dictatorships. But that isn't the root of the ideology.

Apologies. I have been reading the thread asking why kids don't get compulsory politics classes and I enjoyed mine, way back in the 70s.
