Project Fear has won. I feel ashamed to be British this morning.

Mypoorhat Hope this helps re import/export position.

I'm no expert, but don't see the point in further doom, gloom & scaremongering. We've got the result, let's move on together. Only a united front will save the markets.

A victory for ordinary people!

On the plus side, the BBC website has helpfully given me a list of places that I never want to visit.

It's not a victory at all! Britain is screwed. And yes I'm an ordinary person

You say us remainers we're predicting doom and gloom. WAKE UP - that's started happening from the minute leave edged ahead in the count.

The pound is now worth less than it was in the 80s. As we are a small island, we bring most things in from overseas, including most of our food supplies. How much is that all going to cost us now our currency isn't worth anything?

The FTSE is set to open at a loss of £120bn this morning. Do you understand what that means for our economy? It means that unless a miracle happens, we are headed for the biggest recession since America in the 1930s.

This isn't remainers scaremongering, it's ALREADY ACTUALKY HAPPENING.

Glad you are so happy.

I wanted to go to bed but my 16 year old lad has bounced round the living room punching the air all night.

Ducky - you can read that imports are a higher figure on your own graphic, right? How, exactly, do imports work with a devalued currency....

Gosh, really? Does he not understand what's happened?

Clearly not Bert, I'm 23 and I'm so scared what's going to happen to my future. I wish the referendum never even took place now Sad

Thanks Ducky- that's the same source I got the 17% figure from, and the pharmaceutical industry stat. Exports seem very low as a proportion of our economy, so I'm not convinced that we can count on this as a way to solve what really does look like financial crisis (and I'm not doom and gloom mongering here - the pound is genuinely plummeting).

I'm definitely no expert, but my basic searches are not reassuring. I would love to see some well reasoned evidence from those who made an informed decision that leave was in the country's best interests.

The hatred I've seen had been mainly directed towards people who voted leave.

"You are obviously very stupid"
"List of places I never want to visit"
"Fuck off"
"Fucking idiotic"

Just in this little thread.

At least once the £ is worth fuck all we can export everything! Yay!

Because we won't be able to buy anything ourselves.

Just fuck you 2016. I'm ashamed.

At one point I thought to myself : If any outer says " Look at these people within the boarders of Europe, mired in the mud, drowning off the coasts, fenced off and tell me Europe works" I might have thought, yes, these people do want something better. But fucking no.

It's not about Europe let's be fucking honest, it's about immigrants.

You can't / won't stop people coming here.

Err the pound has dropped to a 30 year low and apparently Gove and BoJo are already packing David Cameron's bags over at no.10.
I'm probably going to be made redundant by the end of the year as companies pull investment out of the UK.
It's a super fucking day for ordinary people.

I can understand the angrier because people that voted to leave have just fucked the country. I am ashamed.

FenellaMaxwell Yep, I can see that. I can Also see that most imports are from the EU, and the pound to Euro exchange rate has not changed much. And that the majority of exports are to non-EU.

This is a catastrophe.
The pound is at iy's lowest rate now since 1985.
All 32 councils in SCotland voted to remain, Britain and England are heading for a rocky future.

Ducky I don't hate anyone, quite the opposite. Don't twist my words. Given that immifration has been the corberstone issue for the leave campaign I would certainly think that places that voted overwhelmingly for leave might be less welcoming, and that's not something that I personally relish. You might think that's fine, I don't. I don't hate you, but I think you've made a terrible decision. As far as I have witnessed, the hatred and fear and bigotry has been largely reserved for the Leavers.

Lovely little tweet from Nige " We won without a single shot being fired"

RIP Jo Cox

Please America don't let us down with the Trump thing. Or I will truly lose faith

Interest rates are due to rise later today, but I'm not an economist so that's a good thing right?

Erm, Scotland didn't want independence from the UK; they voted to stay...

Ah remember the No campaign where they repeatedly said Scotland will be out of the EU of they leave the UK.

Oh the irony.
