Wine So happy.
OP posts:
Snapnap · 24/06/2016 05:04

Holy fuck - there is no victory, are you mad? 48/52%? That's too close.

Mypoorhat · 24/06/2016 05:05

I'm genuinely interested in your view of the plummeting economy. We're headed for a crash right now. 'Ordinary People' are losing 10% of their pensions overnight. Do you really think this is going to be ok? Please reassure me about this? I assume you thought this through when you voted Leave, and have more optimistic insight than I do?

Snapnap · 24/06/2016 05:06

Yes - a correction: rich people will be fine. The ordinary scum like me are fucked royally. This is like a nightmare. I am terrified.

blinkowl · 24/06/2016 05:06

.

A victory for ordinary people!
drivinmecrazy · 24/06/2016 05:06

A victory for ordinary people who will be losing their jobs and homes ?? Have you opened your eyes and looked at what is happening financially, globally already? Pound against the dollar at its lowest point since 1985?? Talk of possibly suspending trading on the FTSE at some pint today? Where is the victory for pensioners reliant on their investments? For jobs that will be going?

Mypoorhat · 24/06/2016 05:07

Sorry I meant a fifth of retirement funds, apparently....

Duckyneedsaclean · 24/06/2016 05:09

FenellaMaxwell A low currency encourages exports.

The drop is fairly expected, where there's uncertainty. Made worse of course, because it was at a high yesterday, she people want to sell at a decent price.

There's 2 years of negotiations before we leave, things will calm down.

brambly · 24/06/2016 05:09

If by ordinary you mean ill-educated, then absolutely.

ChipsandGuac · 24/06/2016 05:09

For those talking about a global trade position, exactly what are you trading in?!

GinIsIn · 24/06/2016 05:13

Ducky - has it escaped your notice that we are a fucking ISLAND? We are dependent on imports too.

£120bn is set to be wiped off the FTSE when the market opens.

Pooka · 24/06/2016 05:13

A victory for the people? Would be great to be able to say I told you so 5 years along the lines if it weren't for the fact that the ordinary person, me included, is going to be living it.

Gardencentregroupie · 24/06/2016 05:13

This is a fucking catastrophe for ordinary people. Just look to the US to see what it looks like when a country prioritses competition - say goodbye to a half decent annual leave entitlement, maternity leave, health and safety, the right not to be sacked for no reason. I think this is a very dark day for the UK and I am very scared for the future.

Whisky2014 · 24/06/2016 05:15

You're obviously very stupid OP.

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 24/06/2016 05:17

I'm absolutely dumbfounded that this has happened. What are people THINKING?
What an awful thing to wake up to.

MillieMoodle · 24/06/2016 05:17

Build a global trade position.

It will take YEARS to do that. In the meantime, we'll all just live off rainbows and unicorn tears shall we?

Mypoorhat · 24/06/2016 05:19

Ducky, thanks for this. But what do we export ? I think exports currently account t for 17% of our total economic output- and that's been falling at a steady rate.

The pharmaceutical industry is our highest exporter. With Brexit the industry looks set to lose access to early access initiatives (jeopardising whether patients get early access to drugs). And we'll very likely lose £8.5 billion investment in science, which would hit the industry hard.

That's just from a quick search- do you have better information about the implications for our relatively small export trade? I hope so....

RortyCrankle · 24/06/2016 05:21

No change here then from the doom and gloom Remainers who can only respond with insults.

I'm with you OP, I predicted a win for Leave and am really happy this morning.

Hamishandthefoxes · 24/06/2016 05:23

Good. Come back in 5 years time and let us know how you're going then.

soupmaker · 24/06/2016 05:23

Unfortunately Scotland didn't vote to be independent. But bring it on, because I have no wish to live in racist, nasty, xenophobic Britain where the economy is going to crash, workers rights are going to be ripped up and UKIP will be in ascendancy. "Not a bullet fired" said Farage the odious piece of humanity that he is.

Mypoorhat · 24/06/2016 05:26

Hi Rooty, I'm trying not to respond in insults but with genuine questions for those who are pleased about the result. I'd really like to be reassured....what are your thoughts on how the economy will survive this?

brambly · 24/06/2016 05:27

The number of Brexiteers that go suddenly mute when asked what they hold the manifest benefits of this decision will be is remarkable, and telling.

I have seen an overwhelming proportion of them make the case that it would be sticking it to the man, with sod all else by way of substantiation.

The joke of it is, of course, that if things do go completely frilly, it will be the "ordinary" chap/lady that gets arsef*cked hardest of all.

But then life does tend to go rather frilly when people abandon rationality and act upon emotion rather than intellect.

bkgirl · 24/06/2016 05:29

I am leave and certainly not racist. I have tweeted support without any nastiness. Stop for goodness sake calling all leavers racist.

HappyHeart87 · 24/06/2016 05:33

Erm, Scotland didn't want independence from the UK; they voted to stay...

The reasons that many Scots would have loved independence include an historic context of being absorbed into a sovereign nation in less than ideal circumstances; and a current political climate where the largely left leaning Scottish populace felt poorly represented by a right leaning Westminster.

The issues in the EU ref are completely different.

blinkowl · 24/06/2016 05:33

"I'm with you OP, I predicted a win for Leave and am really happy this morning."

Why exactly?

On a practical level how do you think Brexit will improve things for ordinary people?

Acardwithbigletters · 24/06/2016 05:34

All leavers are not racist.

But all racists will have voted leave.
