Brexit

Why are all the twats voting leave?

Me being one of them probably Blush

I can't find the list I saw earlier, but it's been playing on my mind all day.

It was a list of remain supporters - there was the Bank of England, the IMF, 99% of economists and big businesses, all the non racist newspapers, Steven Hawking, all unions, most councils, Obama etc etc

And a list of brexit supporters. Boris Johnson, Michael Gove, the leader of ISIS, Vicky Pattison out of Geordie Shore Hmm

I'm sure I want to leave. I've started, read and engaged in very interesting debates on MN and elsewhere that have led me to this decision. I'm not saying it's clear cut, but I certainly don't think it's an obviously foolish vote to make. So why are the majority of influential and intelligent people voting remain, and the twats of the world voting leave?

Maybe it's just pre match nerves. But I can't help but thinking if all these geniuses reckon remain is the way to go, I've probably got it wrong.

Thoughts?

There is quite a lot of evidence to suggest that people who plan to vote Remain are on average (of course there are lots of exceptions) better educated than those voting to Leave.

The problem with the Leave case really is that they have no plan about what would happen next so it's a massive leap in the dark. It's clear from recent market reactions to the polls (Brexit looks like winning = pound falls, Remain looks like winning = pound rises again) that there would be, at the very least, short-term economic disruption if we voted to leave, and in practice it would probably last for several years as the negotiations will go on for ages.

That list is hilarious. I've seen it on FB. People think they're being all intelligent by posting it... Well I don't think the leader of ISIS has ever commented on Brexit funnily enough! You'll find David Cameron said ' he would probably support it' more scaremongering from the man that said six months if we left we would be fine.

I can't wait for this to be over. Some people, IME remainers mostly, are making really horrible comments about your intelligence based on your vote. It's really nasty and made me change my opinion on them. Personally it should be about a vote for who you think is right not based on who else is voting and their status.

The chattering classes want to Remain, because they love the wealth that cheap EU labour provides.

You do know a lot of EU workers here are highly paid and in professional jobs? Where do they fit in this narrative?

Limer, do note that you are posting on an internet forum about politics. You are in the chattering classes.

The world is changing all the time.

If we vote remain we can help shape the changes to our advantage

If we vote leave we will be shaped by the changes as even 60 million people have very little power in a world with 7 billion people. Our economy will be smaller so we will have less power

Its not really education I think as much as attitude (you can't get more highly educated than Boris). Most people who have got to the top in their careers have done so because they have an outwards focus and welcoming attitude to new people

You should watch the video by the professor of EU law from the university of Liverpool. Go to their website and it's under news. It's been watched by 6 million. I wish it had been watched by 60 million. He's spent his career studying and advising on the EU and the U.K. And understands how it works better than anyone. Including the government and all the main politicians making the case for both leave and remain. He goes through the nonsense being spouted in the press and by politicians and why it's all misunderstood bollocks. He admits he'd vote remain but it's difficult to fault his analysis. What with him actually doing some rather than going on about project fear/project hate.

I went through the same during Scottish indyref. All the cool people were Yes but I was No. At the end of the day, you have to vote with what you believe, not who else believes it.

Like indyref, the country is broadly split in half. Surely nobody thinks there are nice people in one half and bastards in the other.

I'm a remainer but please don't vote remain to fit in. You've made your own mind up, that's exactly what democracy is.

It is part of the remain campaign to make you feel unintelligent, racist and stupid to vote out.

Fwiw I was going to vote remain. But after doing my research I have decided to vote out. All of my family are voting out, most of whom are very well educated and have high paying jobs, if that makes a difference Hmm

Personally if you've done your research and believe In it I wouldn't care if you're on Katie Hopkins or Tony Blair it should be an informed vote and what you believe in, not a popularity contest of those on each side.

OP, I am strongly in favour of Remain, but I think you have to vote with whatever you think is right, regardless of who is on which side.

I run a company turning over £3M a year - I am voting OUT. None of my employee's rights will change, I will still trade, I will still follow all of the good regulations the EU has helped develop.

I hope to be able to trade more freely with the massive rest of the world without being constrained by inward thinking EU trade controls.

Haven't you answered your own question? Whenever you ally yourself to a side, you should always look and see who is with you. If you've lined up with Katie Hopkins, Nigel Farage, the BNP, and Donald Trump, and you're against Stephen Hawking, Obama, Ian McKellan, the UN, the IMF, etc etc etc ad infinitum....isn't it pretty obvious you're on the wrong team?

I'm highly educated, innit. Wink But I'm voting Leave.

The 'more educated' are not more intelligent, they simply tend to be richer, so can buy their way out of the pressures of 300,000+ new arrivals to the country every year. They then pretend these pressures don't exist so as to continue to enjoy employing cheaper low-skilled workers from abroad.
