How old was your dad when he died?

I posted earlier but didn’t get any responses, my wonderful dad is 81 and I’m starting to think and wrap my head around the fact he’s not got very long left given he has heart disease and seems to be declining.

My colleague said she thought this wasn’t that old, whereas I thought anything above 80 was.

How old was your DF when he died?

Unexpectedly at 60 due to undiagnosed heart disease.

devfire · 11/11/2025 20:21

Mine was 46 when he died and i was 20

tinyspiny · 11/11/2025 20:21

51 massive heart attack , way too young .

Mere1 · 11/11/2025 20:22

My dad was 86. My mum was 94. My husband’s dad was 61. His mum 46. I don’t think you can predict how long any individual will live. It’s best to enjoy the present and see those you love.

  1. He was only very frail and needing support for about 3 years.
CarrierbagsAndPJs · 11/11/2025 20:25

74 after a very long cancer battle. He beat sepsis twice in that time. In the end there were no treatments left to try and his decline when they stopped was fast.

I miss him every day.

Luckyingame · 11/11/2025 20:27

Good riddance.

tiddletiddleboomboom · 11/11/2025 20:28

74 so younger than yours OP

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 11/11/2025 20:28

72 heart attack

BerylThePeril44 · 11/11/2025 20:28

My Dad was 78. I felt cheated and that we should have had him another 5-10 years. It was lung cancer - looking back it was quick. He was fine in October, diagnosed at Xmas, gone by February.
My mother never got over it and so began her journey into dementia … Still going now - six years later. It’s torture for everyone 😢

WearyAuldWumman · 11/11/2025 20:35

86 . His father made it to 81.

SuperBlondie28 · 11/11/2025 20:39

58, he smoked, was overweight, ate wrong food, no exercise. Was supposed to take BP pills but didn't. Had angina too. Only found out after 1st heart attack. 2nd one killed him.

I was 20.

StrongLikeMamma · 11/11/2025 20:46

He was 83. He’d been ill for a few years. I miss him so much. He was the best Dad 💖

whiteblossoms · 11/11/2025 20:53

My DF was 73 and had Parkinson’s which progressed very quickly. I still feel irrationally angry at people older than that who complain about trivial things. I think to myself at least you’re still here.

PiggieWig · 11/11/2025 20:55

Mine was 47 and I was 18 - he was fit and healthy but a bit of a stress head. He had a sudden heart attack.

pumpkinscake · 11/11/2025 20:58

My dad was 73, cancer. My mum is still going strong at 92.

ChaliceinWonderland · 11/11/2025 20:59

66, heart attack at home.

Perzival · 11/11/2025 21:02

61 years and two full days. I was 34 years old. Cancer. It was incredibly quick, he'd been diagnosed and given six months, less than two months earlier. He just gave up.

Lozza70 · 11/11/2025 21:05

My lovely Dad was only 70 when a sudden kidney aneurism took him. He always said he wanted to go out with a bang rather than a whimper so got what he wanted but too young and missed so much of his grandchildren’s lives. Mum has spent the last 13 years saying she was supposed to go first and has withdrawn from life over time which is hard to watch but given all the women in our family reach their nineties she has more time ahead to remain closed off. I would say enjoy and cherish everyday.

ChubbyPuffling · 11/11/2025 21:08

64, 3 weeks away from his pension...
Had a brain tumor, coma for 3 months before his death. Horrendous.

HumerousHumous · 11/11/2025 21:09

Mine died 3 weeks ago. He was 92 and would had his 93rd birthday this week. He did live a good long life but dementia got him. I don’t have my mum either; she was only 78 and died almost 3 years ago, from sepsis.

I hope you get more time with your DF, op.Flowers

80smonster · 11/11/2025 21:11
