Is anyone else here from Kent and their child sitting the Kent test this September? thought it might be good to have a support thread going. If there already is one could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks

So many school visits both grammar and non selective . now open mornings for both grammar and non selective so taking DS out of school a lot this week to view schools during daytime. I so wish we could have the open evenings and mornings after the results and narrow it down a bit for less disruption and less time off work!

7 more days to go ....nearly there

c1403 · 11/10/2023 13:10

I have loads booked but half I'm not now going too although thats because we know she didn't pass her Medway

I'm glad we viewed the grammars in year 5. It gave her a focus and she liked the schools so we always knew they would be our first choices
.
Now we haven't passed (Medway) we are looking at the non grammars and can't find one that ticks most boxes.

Still hopeful for kent test and review of medway but feel unlikely.

Just found some very interesting data from last year from Kent County Council website.

These are the scores with the number of pupils. You'll notice there are two tabs: one "assessed suitable for grammar" and he other "assessed suitable for high". If you look at the former you can see how many pupils were assessed suitable for grammar with headteacher's appeal and their scores, and interestingly the lowest score was 305. (Cut off was 332!).

I've decided to take my son to see stocky again on Tuesday in the hope he decides he really likes it and therefore the 11+ result isn't important. I want him to have the lead in the decision making process, but I'm still not convinced oakwood is for him.

No one warns you of these traumas at NCT classes do they?

MoggyMittens23 · 13/10/2023 11:57

@Ompompom we have seen both Oakwood and Stocky in the past week and loved both of them. Massive difference though! (not in a good/bad way, just v different)

I am in the Canterbury area , anyone else on this thread in this area looking at Canterbury schools ?

enigmaticc · 13/10/2023 14:05

Hi ,i’m in the Ashford area. Can some recommend schools for DD please

Upwardtrajectory · 13/10/2023 15:08

Hi @Lulu1976 we are in canterbury. We’ve only looked at Barton Court and Langton so far. I have a sibling spot at St A’s if the kent test didn’t go our way.
Where are you looking at?

Upwardtrajectory · 13/10/2023 15:09

@enigmaticc
have you looked at Wye or Chilmington Green ?

Lulu1976 · 13/10/2023 15:17

Hi yes we also have Langton & Barton Court to choose between if he passes. I Have also taken Dover Grammar test as we south of canterbury. It will likely be St Anselm's if he doesn't pass either. We don't have a sibling there, but we live near. Also looked at Barton Manor as that didn't exist when i looked at schools with my older ones so was curious but not feeling right for us. Not easy to know what order to choose schools even if he does pass! I think he will be swayed by where his friends go !

Upwardtrajectory · 13/10/2023 16:27

We haven’t looked at Barton Manor - we’re outside Canterbury so probably too far away anyway!

Wednesday can’t come soon enough now!

Buster25 · 13/10/2023 16:39

I know it has been such a long wait!Did anyone else's DC take the Shepway test?

Lulu1976 · 13/10/2023 17:13

Not sure on grammars in that area , but I would recommend Wye School for a non selective choice if you are in the ashford area and close enough

Upwardtrajectory · 13/10/2023 20:02

I wish we were close enough for Wye!

username4826490 · 14/10/2023 17:56

Does anyone know in what order the results are sent out? A friend who's DS sat it last year said it was alphabetical order, anyone heard otherwise!?

Panicmode1 · 14/10/2023 19:02

I don't think anyone knows the answer....I have had 4 children go through it, and the emails arrived at wildly differing times...from just before 3pm to after 8pm....

8pm! That's a long wait... I heard some received theirs at midday. Wonder why they don't just send them all at once.

Panicmode1 · 14/10/2023 19:50

I think I managed to log into the Kent admissions system at about 5pm, but the email didn't come until 8pm

Good luck to everyone waiting..it's such a horrible wait....

Upwardtrajectory · 15/10/2023 09:34

We had ours by lunchtime for eldest DC, and comparisons with other parents afterwards found that most of us had had them by then.
School offer day was more patchy. I got my email about 3pm I think, but lots didn’t get them til later in the evening and a few had them much earlier.

Upwardtrajectory · 13/10/2023 20:02

I wish we were close enough for Wye!

We looked at Wye 2 years ago, very nice school but the head admitted you have to be living in one of the surrounding villages to stand a chance of a place as they only take 90 pupils.

We are looking at Chilmington on Tuesday, that's run by the same people but the other side of Ashford.

Pascha · 15/10/2023 09:53

Two years ago my email arrived at 13.04pm (yes, saddo that I am I kept it!)

Upwardtrajectory · 15/10/2023 11:22

@Pascha We are totally the wrong side for Chilmington - I’d be interested to know what you think of it though.
WRT to Wye, we were told the same. We have no hope of getting in, but I’ll still put it down and hope for a miracle! The opening of Chilmington will help with places at Wye, I guess, but probably still won’t be enough for us.

Pascha · 15/10/2023 11:44

@Upwardtrajectory tbf, we are also a bit far out for it I think but it is nearer than Wye. I know they are taking 120 pupils next September when hopefully the school is actually built so I'm not ruling it out yet. I'm not over thrilled with the other non-grammar Ashford schools really so I'm keeping fingers crossed for a good result on Wednesday.

CautiousOptimist · 15/10/2023 15:57

This wait has been awful, I'm so glad it's nearly over!
Good luck to everyone's children on Wednesday.
Anyone else in the Sevenoaks / Tunbridge Wells area?

Tunbridge wells! Which schools have you seen? We've visited Judd, Skinners and Boys Grammar.
