Is anyone else here from Kent and their child sitting the Kent test this September? thought it might be good to have a support thread going. If there already is one could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks

Hi @Ravenmoon I'm so sorry I can't be of help, but I hope you have got some answers from other sources.

Just a reminder everyone that tonight at 23.59 is the deadline for submitting SCAF. Hope you all get your first choice schools. 🤞

Hi. Late to the party. DD got 105 for English and unfortunately didn't pass. Seems like for many of her friends English was their lowest score. Did everyone find the same or is it just us?

Yes DD's lowest score was for English. She just scraped a pass there (she did much better on the maths and the reasoning papers).

@BlackLambAndGreyFalcon thanks. Thought comprehension was non fiction and relatively straightforward. Or at least that's what Dd told me. I wonder what area was the tricky part.

c1403 · 04/11/2023 00:06

Yes my DD scored just above pass mark on her English. Not her strongest area but did much better on Maths and reasoning.

Ompompom · 04/11/2023 07:26

Yes, my boys only fail was English, 104. His reasoning was 119 which explains why he's so good at arguing with me??

historyrepeatz · 04/11/2023 08:58

DS's weakest result was reasoning. He came out happily telling us that the English was non fiction. He doesn't like English or comprehension especially when using older literature. Maybe it threw other kids on the day? Sometimes if it appears simple you can't believe that it actually is and get worried you're missing something and over complicate it. He said it was better than Bexley which had some weird poem.

My son scraped the english, noticeably different results ! He was fine on Reasoning and Maths.

@Ravenmoon I’m sorry not to be able to help, and for the situation you’re in. I hope you got some answers from school and the head of Kent Admissions?

I found that it really was impossible to second guess the results, so when it’s my second DS’s turn I won’t bother trying!
My son came out saying Maths was straightforward, as did most of his friends and his teacher! And yet that was the one he got 109 on, one more question wrong and he’d have failed it. My thinking was it was an easyish paper, so they all scored high across the cohort and missing only a few questions would make the standardised mark plummet. But that doesn’t fit with what you’re all saying, so I guess I’m wrong. He got 141 on his English and 134 in Reasoning. And yet Maths was the one he found ‘easy’. As I say, totally impossible to second guess.

Good luck to those waiting for school allocation today!
