Is anyone else here from Kent and their child sitting the Kent test this September? thought it might be good to have a support thread going. If there already is one could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks

Not this year - have been through it four times though!! Good luck.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 15/05/2023 17:27

Yes my DD will be sitting the Kent test im September, although we are OOC.

MoggyMittens23 · 15/05/2023 18:05

oh wow 4 times!! @Panicmode1 thank you

@BlackLambAndGreyFalcon good luck to your dd. How are you finding the prep? It seems to be coming round so quickly!

DD did her entrance tests 7 plus years ago. I found the elevenplusexams forum really helpful.

MoggyMittens23 · 15/05/2023 19:42

Thank you @PettsWoodParadise I'll check that out

@MoggyMittens23 seems to be going OK so far. She has a mock exam on Saturday so we'll see how she fares. As she's my first (and only) I don't have much of a frame of reference.

MoggyMittens23 · 16/05/2023 09:55

@BlackLambAndGreyFalcon no, same here. Although I did it myself many, many moons ago! We have done a mock test already and have another end of July

Checking in as DS is sitting it this year. Can't believe it's come around so quickly!! How is everyone preparing for it? We do CGP books mainly, we've tried Atom before but it's online..

MoggyMittens23 · 16/05/2023 13:34

@WorldofKnitting We did have the CGP books, but then DH found out that GL (?) are the ones who do the Kent Test, so we bought some mock tests from them, we tend to do one a week. (I think they are all pretty much the same thing though) They are SO expensive though. We are making DC write out the answers on a separate sheet rather than on the paper though so second DC can re use in a couple of years 😂

I have never heard of Atom but it looks good. Do you use the resources/tutoring?

In four months time they will have done it 😳

OP posts:
WorldofKnitting · 16/05/2023 13:38

Just the resources. Might have helped if he did the tutoring but we can't afford it.

GL practice books look good - I've heard of them, yes they are incredibly expensive!! Good idea to use for other DCs.

He did do a mock exam a few weeks ago. Was good to see his strengths and weaknesses.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 16/05/2023 16:42

We also use atom (just the resources as she does tutoring elsewhere) and have found it really helpful.

MoggyMittens23 · 16/05/2023 17:56

@WorldofKnitting yes agree, it's helpful to know the points you need to work on and others where you don't have to stress as much.

CGP does some Kent specific practice papers. How far this varies from other GL I don’t know.

CautiousOptimist · 07/09/2023 16:00

Hi, I was just looking to see if there was a thread, my son did the Kent Test this morning. How did your children all find it? So pleased it’s out of the way!

Buster25 · 07/09/2023 18:40

Hi. My daughter found it okay but struggled with the spatial reasoning and English comprehension.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 07/09/2023 19:15

My dd is sitting it on Saturday.

MoggyMittens23 · 07/09/2023 21:01

@CautiousOptimist how did your son get on?

Mine came out feeling pretty happy with it which I was pleased about. Regardless of the outcome I wouldn't have wanted them stressing until results day.

CautiousOptimist · 07/09/2023 21:41

Good luck everyone!
He came out pretty happy, it was easier than some of the mocks he'd done over the summer.
He struggled a bit with the timing in non verbal, had to guess perhaps 6 questions overall when he ran out of time.
Hopefully they've passed!

sophiehassan · 07/09/2023 23:43

My daughter’s non verbal didn’t go well as she struggled with timing and she had to guess 6 questions as well. She is quite upset as she has been an outstanding student and passed all the 8+ mocks she took over summer.Does anyone knows how many marks are appeal able if God for it it goes till that end.we are new in kent.

WorldofKnitting · 08/09/2023 07:19

Without discussing what came up as some will be doing it on Saturday, DS sat the exam yesterday and his friends thought it was pretty easy (easier than the mocks they've been doing) so wondering whether overall marks will be higher than normal; in which case it will be more difficult to get a good score even if they did well.

CautiousOptimist · 08/09/2023 09:04

Maybe the pass mark will be a bit higher this year as it was the same story among my son's friends, particularly with the maths paper.

CautiousOptimist · 08/09/2023 09:09

@WorldofKnitting I think we tend to focus on what went badly afterwards, maybe it didn't go as badly as she thinks. Fingers crossed. My son found timing hard too in the sand paper, and guessed a few because he was out of time at the end. Try not to worry.
As regards appeals, we've been told it's not possible to appeal on 18th October. Basically the school will already have done it if appropriate by taking them to Headteachers' Panel.
The point at which we can appeal if we want to is in March when they get their school places.

CautiousOptimist · 08/09/2023 09:11

@sophiehassan Sorry I @ the wrong person! Message above meant for you.
Sorry @WorldofKnitting !

WorldofKnitting · 08/09/2023 09:17

Does anyone know when the schools find out the results?
