Hello fellow parents, Just wanted to start a thread on RGS Guildford, which our children will be sitting on 11th January 2020. Not long now.

Most boys struggle with English so try not to worry, he won’t be alone in not liking to write! It’s a detailed thing that suits girls better 😉

Have all the interview emails for next week gone out or just the Tuesday ones?

@goobledygok .... "Don't know what he can say in 8 mins to get out of that"....this made me smile for it's honesty! I've known many many children who fall firmly in this camp. If his other subjects are strong then that may carry him if they see potential to work with the other. It is far far from over! Stay positive...he's very much still in the game.

Meanwhile, nothing on the email so far for us....praying for a 'yes' but in my heart trying work out how the hell I'll get DS over a 'no'. He is very capable but not a dead cert candidate (in my -unprofessional- opinion!) so I'd sort of been hoping for an interview. Not sure if that's just because it keeps hope alive and I'm terribly impatient! Now we just wait and see....

Bit silly question ... do 13+ candidates also get called in for second interview or is it just simple yes and no decision towards the month end for 13+

I thought 13+ didn't get interview email as their 'second chance' is the invite for the 12+ instead? So 13+ get either yes no or come back at 12

It is a Thursday evening all.... goodness me what happens when you hit Friday ;-) Curry (less spicy) and Interview here too.

Slight disagreement on creative writing just for girls. Mine loves it, gets rather carried away. He can't spell, avoids any punctuation but it's the first thing he''ll do.

He'll also avoid any robot like learning activity (aka any kind of practice test) so we didn't do much. He needs to be in the right environment for something we are paying for, so haven't tutored either.

Suspect interview based on random stuff he got 'wrong'....

Re 13+ , no interviews, just a straight no or 12+ recall. Likely they'll engage their relationships with feeder preps instead.

Anyone got second interview for RGS today?

Yes...second interview for Mathematics. A bit surprised as that was according to DS, his best paper of the 3! Not sure whether to feel relieved at another opportunity or just stressed at trying to prep. We only decided to sit the exam at the very last minute, so pleased that he's got this far...there's still hope that a "maybe" will become a "yes"?!

just wondering if people getting the interview invites, yesterday, have surnames A-K or L-Z?

Are there still interview emails coming out today or have we missed the boat now??
Feeling very nervous about no interview.

I reckon about a third of available places come form interview....
(17% immediate yes; 10% from interview; 72% no)

@logfire2020 sounds like he has a talent for this then bless him. Mine loves to read and grammar is fine but can't be asked to write it down. That of course shows in his comprehension and creative writing. Came back saying he wrote 15 lines but admitted that other people mostly wrote 2 pages. I suspected his best case scenario would be an english interview if at all and here we are

Definitely know of a boy with a surname in the latter half of the alphabet who was invited for an interview by email last night.

Aarrrggghhhh!!!!!

Does anyone know how quickly the no letters are sent? I was under the impression that they’re sent quite quickly so does that mean there’s two rounds of no letters ie the definite nos and then the nos after the second interviews? I would have thought it would be better to send them all in one batch to avoid giving parents a false positive .... 🤯

HampshireGirl123....the 'no' letters come in 2 batches

• No with no interview: 30Jan-2feb
• No after interview: 14 Feb
