RGS Guildford 11+

Hello fellow parents, Just wanted to start a thread on RGS Guildford, which our children will be sitting on 11th January 2020. Not long now.

Has anyone got a firm yes or a no yet?

@Pyrfwondering - the letter that the school handed out on 11th Jan at the parents' meeting states that 11+ academic scholarship papers will be sat on Weds 29th Jan "and invitations will be sent out during the previous week."

Can someone confirm the class sizes too that is a very good question. Also anyone know when the nos will be sent out?

Outright no’s 31 January
2nd interview no’s 13 February
Offers 13 February

Around 25 is correct for my son's class, but I wouldn't obsess over numbers and chances as I think they have flexibility over how they split up places between 11+ and 13+, as well as over the total number of places. As other people said up thread, the no letters come out at the end of January/beginning of February. If your son is called back for a subject interview, then you have to wait until mid-February to find out whether it's a yes or a no. All yes letters are sent out in mid-February as RGS has an agreement with other schools to send out all offers on the same day. However, if your son is invited back to sit for an academic scholarship, you can relax as he is definitely in.

Just wondering if anyone can shed further light on the scholarship invites.

As @guerrillashoppa previously stated, the letter from last week states "invitations will be sent out...."

Anyone know if the scholarship invitations come via email or post?

Scholarship invitation came out by email on Monday January 21st last year, and the exam for that was on the 30th.

Anyone's DS sit the scholarship exam last year?? How many boys are invited to take it?

What email address has the interview invite come from? I need to check my junk and deleted folders!!

123 there were quite a lot called for scholarship, we knew 3 of them in our very small circle. Only one got a scholarship £ value, one got an honorary and the other got nothing. The best thing about the scholarship is that you know you’re in!

R2727 the no’s go out up until the end of Jan, once you are past that date you should be fine. I think in the year we did it someone got a late no. Awful process, worth finding the old posts if you can.

@sazzy5 ....I'm not hopeful of a scholarship for any reason other than a guarantee of entry at all! Think it's a very very long shot but you just never know...

@R272727 if you haven’t had a 2nd interview invite and you haven’t received any news after the 3rd February, I would say with certainty you have a yes coming on Valentines day 😁

In response to how many boys are in a class. My son is in first form and there are 24 boys in his class. There are 5 classes. My DS was called back for a 2nd interview-Maths. They interview was easy. BIDMAS.
I know someone was called back for Verbal R and Maths and they was offered a place. All the best as you wait for the results.

@HampshireGir123 : Based on last year, it's scholarship emails start of this week (exam is next week) and 'no letters' at the end of the month (roughly 30 Jan - 2 Feb)

@123EyesOnMe OK thanks. We’re definitely not expecting a scholarship email! Just dreading opening a no letter and would rather be put out of my misery ASAP 😞
