Thank you so much, @sazzy5! I have come to my senses now:), and quite ashamed of the fact that I took for granted their offer (need to learn how to manage my expectations 🙈)! Holding fingers crossed and proud of DS - he took it so much better! 😂😂😂

Postboxwatcher · 05/02/2019 11:44

I am sorry Controversial, I'm sure your son will be really happy at St Johns, its a great school.

For those still waiting by the postbox, at interview day RGS said that the results will be posted on Thurs 14th. Last year they arrived a week earlier. Is there a chance it might be this Friday then? Please tell me yes, I cant stand the suspense Wine

Naturenurture · 05/02/2019 11:58

I was also wondering about that! Last year they came out on the 8th ? Was half term earlier?

SusieQKew1 · 05/02/2019 12:02

Yes I think half term was earlier in 2018- half term was the week beginning 12th Feb for us last year

Postboxwatcher · 05/02/2019 12:42

Oh Hmm you're right Susie it was. So does late half term definitely = extra week of postbox watching? Gin

wearyone1 · 05/02/2019 12:54

It'll be the Friday before half term..15th Feb. If you are 13+ don't be worried if only a thin letter...

Auroborea · 05/02/2019 14:22

RGS can't send the offers before the 14th because they are part of a group of schools that have an agreement to all send the offers on the same day (which this year is the 14th). So it should be safe now not to watch the post box until the 15th of Feb as wearyone1 says.

Prufrockspeach · 05/02/2019 14:26

Wearyone1......what’s that about the thin letter? Usually a thin letter is a bad sign but I remember a few years back one school (DS1s 1st choice) sent a “yes” in a thin letter which gave me heart palpitations...but RGS was a big A4....has this now changed?

tut53 · 05/02/2019 15:02

Emailing must be a new thing.

wearyone1 · 05/02/2019 15:23

The 13+ yes was small and thin, probably because there's no action to be taken. You don't pay anything until the following year.

wearyone1 · 05/02/2019 15:24

11+ yes might be bigger as there's probably a deposit to be paid etc

Prufrockspeach · 05/02/2019 16:55

wearyone1 - that's good to know - could do without having a small heart attack before I've even opened the letter!

grebnew · 05/02/2019 18:27

Does anyone know how many boys in total are in the first form, how many in each class, and how they are organised?

koor · 06/02/2019 09:40

Grebnew. I believe 130 seats in total. however I am unsure of the breakup between 11+ and 13+

Does anyone know what the criteria for interview calls at KCS was? Was it the test paper scores only or combined with school reference reports?

Hopeful201 · 06/02/2019 10:57

There are 24 in my DS class, they split it according to surname and language they are taking.

grebnew · 06/02/2019 11:24

That's really interesting Hopeful, thank you.

Do you know if any of the boys start fresh with a new language? Eg if they've been taking French, but want to switch to Spanish with no prior experience... is this okay or will they be too far behind?

PandaFan · 06/02/2019 13:13

Koor - our understanding was that KCS selection for interview was essentially based on test scores, but I would imagine references must play some part at that stage. We know of a couple of surprises though - two very mathematical boys who found the KCS tests "easy" but then didn't get called for interview. Maybe there were higher expectations of English than they realised?

koor · 06/02/2019 13:48

Thanks PandaFan. My experience was the same. You can make your count as 3 now. My DS said that Maths was easy and English was easy tooSmile. I know English is not his strength, so i would think English is what held him back.

Prufrockspeach · 06/02/2019 15:23

Koor - my son found the math at KCS surprisingly easy but he also said the English was ok too (he is an all rounder)....I think it favoured those good at English and this was evident in those called back for interview.

chardan · 07/02/2019 00:31

One of my friend’s DS has received a no letter from RGS yesterday. It seems to me that RGS is still sending no letters.

Bin85 · 07/02/2019 07:19

That's not good chardan
I wonder when it was posted.

Prufrockspeach · 07/02/2019 08:45

It must have been lost in the post. I spoke to admissions on Monday and they reassured me that all the letters had been posted on Friday afternoon.

OneStepMoreFun · 07/02/2019 08:56

Grebnew I think they can choose a new language. DS2 did French at primary but swapped to Spanish at RGS.

Elpis2019 · 07/02/2019 09:16

Prufrockspeach - so if you have heard absolutely nothing until now that is then good news? (For 11+ entrance)
