grebnew · 04/02/2019 11:15

Nothing here

Bluetopaz99 · 04/02/2019 11:32

Post been here and nothing either.

Auroborea · 04/02/2019 11:51

Clear post here. Handhold to those who have received a 'no', it's such a horrible process. Good luck to waiting list boys, hopefully the lists will start moving shortly. Wishing everyone the right school where the boys can thrive and be happy.

SusieQKew1 · 04/02/2019 12:33

Yes agree Auroborea, good luck to everyone - it’s good to know I’m not alone in this nail biting phase. Our sons will end up where they are meant to be

Elpis2019 · 04/02/2019 13:00

Postie been nothing from RGS - is that all the No letters out?

OP posts:
chardan · 04/02/2019 14:12

Same here. I found it strange that only one of us have received a no letter (lewisk). I would have expected more nos ?!

Elpis2019 · 04/02/2019 14:38

I have heard from several other parents not on here who have received No letters

OP posts:
PandaFan · 04/02/2019 14:47

As per Saturday, I have received not a single letter of any kind from anyone today. I may resort to sending myself a postcard this afternoon just to check my postman is still active!

SusieQKew1 · 04/02/2019 14:54

Just checked our post - we have other mail (KT12) but not anything from senior schools

Prufrockspeach · 04/02/2019 15:47

I think its safe to say that if you're 11+ and haven't received a "no" by now then you can feel quietly confident.....us 13+ brigade still have to endure the possibility of a "come back at 12" . Someone told me that the "come back at 12s" tend to be the boys who have come very highly recommended by their prep schools but for some reason haven't performed on the day or really messed up one aspect of the test (i.e. similar to those who got a call back at 11+) as opposed to just the all round borderline candidates....

wearyone1 · 04/02/2019 15:54

yes, my son was lucky and got a 13+ place a couple of years ago. All the boys at his prep school who got a 12+ comeback eventually got a place.

Prufrockspeach · 04/02/2019 16:05

Yes - same true when my DS1 did it a few years back.....but wouldn't fancy having to go through the whole thing again to be honest. Does anyone know if RGS are still offering places conditional on passing CE with average of 70%? Schools like Hampton and St Johns are offering unconditional places now which certainly takes the stress out of CE (as surely going through this process is bad enough!)

tut53 · 04/02/2019 16:11

I know of boys who have gone back for the 12 + and not got an offer.
It means another year of uncertainty. Not great

wearyone1 · 04/02/2019 16:12

yes, still conditional I think. Not such a stretch really though for someone with an RGS place. Some prep schools have gone to PSB for humanities now, only CE in English, Maths and Science.I believe.

ConroversialMuch · 04/02/2019 19:02

Hi there! I have been peeking the thread for a while but never posted. However, maybe it will make someone feel better: St. John’s and RGS have sent out their letters. (For us, it’s a “no” from RGS and a “yes” from St. John’s). Another parent has just told me they also received a “no” email from RGS which was very generic and dry. So, no news is good news for all those waiting!
P.S. Very angry with RGS, though - but I will withhold my judgment till we hear back from other schools. DS is 10, and although very bright, English is not his first language. He is also quite reserved. When he came out from the assessment at Guilford, he said: “It’s a 99.9% that I won’t get in!” I absolutely loved the school before the assessment. After that, although angry, I realise it wouldn’t be the school for him.

SusieQKew1 · 04/02/2019 19:34

ConroversialMuch congrats to your son on getting a place at St Johns. I’m sure he will thrive there. The generic email from RGS doesn’t sound very nice. I appreciate you letting us know

ConroversialMuch · 04/02/2019 19:37

Thank you, @SusieQKew1! We are still waiting to hear from two more schools - it’s just...hard and frustrating😂🤦🏼‍♀️. Best of luck to all this still waiting!

Poppyred25 · 04/02/2019 19:40

Controversial - congrats to your ds on getting St John's, there are many parents who got "no's" from RGS, Reeds & St J's over the past few days & would love to be in your situation. As you say the right school for your ds has given him a place, enjoy the "open day for offer holders" and the special pastoral care that St J's offers all children, it's a happy school on the up with a fab headmistress.
I'm hearing it's a terrible year for ds so congrats on your ds's achievement.

PandaFan · 04/02/2019 19:56

Prufrockspeach, according to the 2018 Admissions Supplement on the RGS website, (for 13) CE or scholarship still do need to be sat in 2021. But no idea what the pass mark is. KCS still require 13+ places to sit CE for example, but they have recently lowered the pass mark to 60%.

ConroversialMuch, thank you for sharing and well done to your DS for gaining his place at St John's. Those places are really in demand this year - I know several parents who are disappointed not to have gotten one.

This whole process does feel pretty brutal. Not to mention never-ending!

ConroversialMuch · 04/02/2019 20:34

Thank you, @Poppyred25 and @PandaFan - for your support and encouragement! I must admit, the reaction might have a lot to do with the fact that St.John’s was our “soft” option - and I wish we could get more feedback from the schools that say “no”! I feel like I got it wrong at some stage and struggle to figure out when:). You are right, St. John’s is amazing in terms of pastoral care and support for kids. Although every time I feel like I can trust the system - it fails! I am so close to starting the holy war for transparency on public schools assessment process! 😈😂🤦🏼‍♀️

sazzy5 · 04/02/2019 21:31

Controversial I am sorry your DS didn’t get a place at RGS, remember he is in the majority, hundreds don’t get a place. St Johns is a very lovely school, remember loads won’t have got in their either.
The problem is so many DC are sitting multiple exams, some sit 10 exams. The no letter is horrible, no soft words will help the feeling of sadness will they? In a few weeks you will be more than pleased with the school your DS is going to and won’t give RGS a second thought. Good luck to your very lucky DS (I know many at St Johns and they all love it).

Starlilly88 · 04/02/2019 22:31

I'm getting the feeling this year is quite tough? Is it a bumper birth year too? I've heard of lots of no's and wait lists so far with the boys, and not many offers.
