Chidi1, Completely agree! Trying to stay busy and swore to myself I wouldn't think about this but... roll on February. You've likely read last year's thread? There were some good tips about the 2nd interviews there I think. Good luck to you and your DS!

Bluetopaz99 · 18/01/2019 12:28

Chidi1 is the call back for interview from RGS?

chidi1 · 18/01/2019 12:41

Bluetopaz99 yes it is. DS' school got an email at the same time as us telling them about the interview too.

grebnew, thanks for the direction. I've now seen the 2018 thread and it has got some helpful info in it. Looks like it will be getting DS to go through the questions he struggled with and seeing if he understands them with a bit more time. Identifying the areas to work on will be tough. DS is struggling to remember the exam.....wonderful.

Detege · 18/01/2019 12:57

Hmm... Post been.No letter here either. Eek.. Stress!

Detege · 18/01/2019 13:01

Have spoken to a couple of people about the call back interviews in the past and they have tended to revisit the easier 'silly mistake' type questions they ask as oppose to asking about the really hard ones.So actually quite straightforward. Fingers crossed for you. Any no letters yet??!

romajador · 18/01/2019 13:07

We have had the call back interview for maths too. Also next Friday. My son said he thought it had gone ok, but had struggled with a few of the questions. He was very worried about the exam, so I do not think would have performed at his best.

PandaFan · 18/01/2019 13:09

We've received nothing at all yet. Are "no letters" and callbacks actual letters from the postman - or emails?!
Best of luck chidi1 !

romajador · 18/01/2019 13:11

Hi PandaFan, our call back was an email.

Bluetopaz99 · 18/01/2019 13:12

Yes - are the callbacks via email or letter? Good luck for them 🍀

chidi1 · 18/01/2019 13:13

Ours was an email too, from Mrs Sweet. I think the actual offers and rejections are snail mail judging by previous years. Good luck!

PandaFan · 18/01/2019 13:15

Thanks romajador, I had very similar feedback about the maths exam to you.. eek! Good luck Friday

PandaFan · 18/01/2019 13:17

Maybe callbacks are being grouped by subject? Maths first...

grebnew · 18/01/2019 13:31

I can only imagine this is what playing paintball feels like. Just waiting to be pinged with the 2nd interview English email !

Elpis2019 · 18/01/2019 14:24

Same here post been and gone and no letter

So from what I understand the call back for maths will be to go over some of the questions they got wrong or struggled with originally. So prolly best to ask your DSs what questions they got wrong or struggled with and make sure they are at least familiar with how they should calculate and answer.
I’ve heard it’s fairly relaxing atmosphere- the aim here really is to see if your DS can cope with the rigor at RGS. (So the last question on travel to the Moon and back, would be a good idea to know how to answer that one - I think it’s available
On the web).

No calls or emails or post here either! Good luck with the second interviews.

Mastfam · 19/01/2019 15:22

DS found that last question interesting and wanted to solve it.
Copying it for you. Hope it helps. The numbers might be different but at least we get the idea.
The distance of the moon and earth is the same as the diameter of earth.
The speed of sound is 300 meters per second. The earth’s diameter is 13000km. A rocket goes twice the speed of sound. How long does it take to go to the moon and back on a rocket
.

grebnew · 19/01/2019 15:36

about 24 hours?

grebnew · 19/01/2019 15:39

Oh no, 12 hours. It's good there isn't a clock ticking!

Prufrockspeach · 19/01/2019 15:56

Oh dear - I got 6 hours! Glad I'm not taking the test....convert 13000km to metres and you get 13000000 metres. Then divide 600 metres into that to get number of seconds to get to the moon....divide by 60 to get minutes and divide by 60 again to get hours.....but probably completely wrong!

grebnew · 19/01/2019 16:12

To the moon, and back!

grebnew · 19/01/2019 16:13

Unless you wanted to stay there of course, start up a new colony or something ;)

Mastfam · 19/01/2019 20:46

12hrs indeed...DS says the answer was in days so the numbers are definitely not the same. He marked 60days which is surely incorrect.

Detege · 20/01/2019 07:20

My DS has a photographic memory and tells me the answer choices were: 15, 30, 45, 60 or 20 days. He knew how to work out the answer but ran out of time to do that so guessed..

grebnew · 20/01/2019 07:51

Girls' school places (in Guildford) are out as of yesterday, great! But I have one of each. I'd like to accept for DD, and not hold places for other girls, but I need to know which school my DS will accept to ensure the schools are not an hour apart. Why does RGS take so much longer to decide?!
