Yes a lovely handwritten note to say well done - a fine achievement from the head.

Prufrockspeach · 15/02/2019 17:04

We also received our offer today after a very late postman! It was a small letter for 13+ so had a mini heart attack but thank goodness is was a yes! Relief all round! Well done everyone!

And just a note for next year applicants - head of schools are informed. DS head told me yesterday that he received an email from RGS informing them of all the names of the boys who got an offer.

SusieQKew1 · 16/02/2019 22:05

Hi all congrats to all of you with offers- amazing achievement and I look forward to meeting you idc.

I have started a new thread asking for advice on KCS vs RGS - we are in the fortunate position to have an offer for both and are now really confused about which one would suit DS better. Great position to be in but really worried as we want to make the right decision by our DS. Any advice from current parents welcome!
Thanks

PoshDee · 17/02/2019 09:15

Congratulations everyone with offers. We are also in the situation as SuzieQ. An offer from St George's College and RGS. DS would prefer to go to St George's. Any advice from current parents are welcome. DS thinks RGS would involve a lot of hard work, - too fast paced - He is very happy at St George's junior school. I just want to make the right decision for him.

sazzy5 · 17/02/2019 10:05

Susie I would think either school is good for your DS, both fab and surprisingly sporty as well as academic schools. Location and ease of getting to is probably the biggest factor. You have a great choice.

PoshDee if your son got in to RGS he can cope with how ‘difficult’ It is. I have 2 sons there both doing fine. In my sons year a whole load left St Georges as they felt the academics weren’t good enough, I know they had call backs and are doing fine if that is what your DS is worried about? You have a great choice too so wouldn’t worry too much about it.

PoshDee · 17/02/2019 12:51

Thank you for the advice Sassy5.

PoshDee · 17/02/2019 12:52

Thank you for the advice sazzy5.

SusieQKew1 · 17/02/2019 13:08

Thank you sazzy5, that’s really helpful

Mastfam · 17/02/2019 15:11

Congratulations to all the boys who made it!! DS has been offered place in all the schools we applied. Narrowed it down to KCS and RGS. Torn between two as both are extremely good! X

tut53 · 18/02/2019 07:51

I know someone who left St George's for RGS and hasn't regretted it at all.

PoshDee · 18/02/2019 11:02

Tut53, thank you. That is really helpful. Ds wants to go to St George's college but I think RGS will be more suitable for him.

Bin85 · 18/02/2019 16:39

If you have the chance to go to RGS take it ,great school.

Marnie321 · 18/02/2019 21:12

Hi, our DS offered a place at RGS, but he is concerned that he will know no one in his year as he is the only one from his primary school that applied. Will anyone’s son be travelling to Guildford from Haslemere, so that at least he would have opportunity to meet some train buddies before he starts?

IvySquirrel · 18/02/2019 22:27

I've had 2 sons at RGS, one now at uni and one still there.
It is a fabulous school and definitely a better choice academically than St George's.
I'd say similar standard to KCS so go for the nearer one.
My older one was the only one from his primary and knew no-one at all. He soon made good friends that he is still close to despite being at a variety of universities. My younger one was also the only one from primary but knew siblings of his brother's friends which made it a bit easier.
Do not hesitate if you have an offer. It has been a big financial stretch for us but I can't recommend highly enough for a bright boy.

surreygoldfish · 18/02/2019 22:44

Well done to your DSs. We are nearly out the other side - in 6th form- but I still remember the long wait. My one reflection looking at how their prep school peers at other schools have performed - they have all done really well (and in some cases better) at Reeds, St George’s and Hampton. They are all good schools - the rest is largely down to individual ability and aptitude. Unless your DS is right at the top they need to be prepared to be ‘in the mix’ at RGS where they may have been near the top in another school. I’d also recommend going for the closest school.

sugarplumfairy02 · 18/02/2019 22:54

Marnie321
I live in Haslemere and have a DS further up RGS. There will be many other new boys on the train from Haslemere. Your DS definitely won't feel alone for long. I also have girls on the train, along with so many other RGS, GHS and Tormead kids. He'll make friends really quickly......its such a nice way to give them more independence.

Mastfam · 19/02/2019 08:06

Marine321 my son is the only one from his school and believe there will be quite a few boys like him and they will soon make good friendships.

Marnie321 · 20/02/2019 08:08

Thanks. We’re going to the offer holders afternoon, so hopefully that will help persuade him that it is the right place to go!

henry8Clara · 23/02/2019 21:02

My son will be, he too will know no one as is the only one from his school
