Yes! ..and yes, me too. Nervous and feeling the need for support!

Kay34 · 08/01/2015 09:29

Fingers crossed - trying not to show DS my nerves.

Ditto. DS has become a bit tense as another boy sitting the exam had a chat with him at school (they are in the same class) and he seems quite tense since that convo. Bless him. This is the only one we are trying for, so the exam setting is a new experience for DS. I'm trying to hide my nerves.
Sending Flowers to you.
I must remember to keep breathing!

Fingers crossed for all our boys sitting the exam tomorrow........hope they all have a good nights sleep!!!!

beegee · 11/01/2015 09:57

Well, glad that's over. My DS seemed to think it was ok although VR was harder than he thought it would be. He didn't finish that, or the essay and couldn't do a couple of maths questions...!! So, we will see.

Kay34 · 11/01/2015 10:36

Similar here. Didn't quite finish maths. Finished English and vr. Straightforward interview. First good night's sleep in last few days

Correction he said vr also hard and didn't get to last few

I still can't work out how they can get rid of 250 boys out of 400 applicants. They only have about 150 spaces - I think? Surely there will be more than 150 boys who've done well?

PatriciaHolm · 11/01/2015 14:18

It's like any of these types of oversubscribed schools with exam & interview - ultimately they will take the children who do well and who come across as the children who will do best in that environment. That may result in some very bright kids not getting in if they don't think they will thrive in that particular environment. They know what they are looking for.

Hadenuffalready · 11/01/2015 14:55

Phew...glad that's out of the way! DS finished everything but said the maths paper had some very tricky questions....he seems to have forgotten about it already but now I'm wondering what sort of scores you need to get in? Heard something along the lines of. "If you're not in the 90's forget it"....yikes!

Kay34 · 11/01/2015 15:46

Anyone know how many sat the exam yesterday?

OP posts:
Tisawiedge · 11/01/2015 17:51

Someone said 400?

beegee · 12/01/2015 00:49

Did any of you manage to glean what the comprehension was? DS hadn't heard of it, and can't remember - he said he found it easy, and then said he didn't really understand it Hmm ..something about a chicken in a hat LOL

beegee · 12/01/2015 00:52

Not sure what scores are needed to get in, other than it's extremely competitive. Fingers crossed for us all

Tisawiedge · 12/01/2015 12:35

That's strange - I was told something to do with a train - I know that was the essay, so maybe there's been confusion at our end! So difficult to get them to tell you when they are exhausted.

Kay34 · 12/01/2015 12:59

DS said it was a comprehension about a train journey and then a letter of complaint or a memorable train journey. He also remembered the chicken. Food is always a hit.

OP posts:
Tisawiedge · 12/01/2015 13:23

No mention of chicken our end, but yes, a train! Now it's the wait.
Do siblings have a better chance - ? As that would take up valuable places??

Kay34 · 12/01/2015 13:44

I would hope not if they are all judged on merit. My dc all different and we plan for different schools.

Tisawiedge · 12/01/2015 14:35

How important is the interview ? Surely it's the exam marks that are going to count? My ds said interview was over very quickly.

purebeauty18 · 12/01/2015 14:39

Essays were 2 choices......describing a journey on a train or complaint about a train journey. Any of your boys get any tricky questions in their interview? Mine was asked what current issues going on in the world!!

butty4 · 12/01/2015 15:43

yes essays were a choice of train journeys........complaint or memorable journey.Comprehension, another train journey theme, no hint of chicken!!!! my son managed to complete all papers but said VR and maths were challenging. now its just the waiting...unbearable isn't it!!!

Tisawiedge · 12/01/2015 17:08

Hard to tell how well they've done just from what they themselves tell you!

Hadenuffalready · 12/01/2015 17:37

Does anyone know when the letters for "no"/"interview"/"scholarship" get sent out...interviews are on the 20th/21st and 28th so does this mean that the letters will be done pretty quickly? Time to seal up that letterbox!!!

Tisawiedge · 12/01/2015 19:51

No idea. I would have thought quite soon though as need to let people know about interviews next week! But as for the 'no' letters? Maybe same time?
