Speculating the 'no' letters would go out after second interviews are completed

Tisawiedge · 17/01/2015 12:30

That's quite late then as they have (I think) 2 weeks of second interviews! Surely they must know there's a 100 or so straight nos out of the 400? They could let them know???

Asalwaysworriedmum · 17/01/2015 18:48

Recd letter for second interview. Anyone know the format? Is this an interview or test? English and VR.

Tisawiedge · 18/01/2015 09:05

I'm not sure. Think they will pick on areas he found difficult on the day and check to see his understanding of it? Perhaps give him a few VR questions and comprehension. Can't be too detailed as there isn't huge amount if time - is there?

Kay34 · 18/01/2015 19:46

Another week and more running the gauntlet with the postman. Gulp!

Fingers crossed for those with interviews this week.

Been thinking about numbers. (Job is taking second place to speculating right now).
Has anyone had confirmation how many sat the exam?
If 400 sat for 150 places, assume 270 ish for 11+. About 25 called to sit scholarship paper but are straight in. Possibly they will make 110 offers as some will go elsewhere. HM said 60 interviews but assume half are nos. That leaves 55 spaces left for those who have not been contacted yet versus 185 nos at the end of the month.

I'm certain this is not helping but wondered if anyone saw it differently and wanted to join in the funConfused

Kay34 -been doing much the same and it does look like those called back have a 50% chance of getting in and the remainder which I have called " the group of death" have about 30% chance - which was where we started but we really don't know. How many have been called back? and how many places are potentially available for them? how many really stand no chance and were speculative attempts? how many were doing the 13+ for 50 places? I have only heard of state school boys being called back for 2nd interviews (but anyone know anything else please correct) and the school like to take a third of boys from State school. I like the 1 in 3 chance although I suspect it could as high as 1 in 5 chance. No's will start being sen out weekend after next so we will all be put out of our misery soon unless the school surprise us and send them out earlier!

A couple of years ago the "no" letters came out at the end of this week.....last year it was a week later....so no idea what the format will be this year. TBH I don't really see the point of drawing out everyone's agony for this long. They evidently have the list of boys who are an absolute "no" so why they can't just inform them now, is a mystery. The process is stressful enough without the unnecessary wait....this isn't the x-factor!

abbadabbadoo · 20/01/2015 12:19

I just wonder whether they are looking at the call backs to see whether there is anyone from their 'preferred list' (i.e the 75 places currently left after adjusting for the scholsarships) that they could oust - so effectively an x-factor style. They are looking for where they can improve the child most and it's not always the brightest ones who get through from what we have heard from previous years. But they know the boys coming through from the private schools as they have strong relationships with the heads in those schools but they don't necessarily know the state school boys as well - so maybe that's why they get called back for a second look? But even then there will be some absolute 'No's' and I agree they should just let those know asap #becarefulwhatwewishfor!

Kay34 · 20/01/2015 12:36

I love it! Dr Cox as Simon Cowell. Better get DS some singing lessons.
I'm now hoping some other offers come in first so if it's bad news the blow is softened. Thinking about me and not DS who is ambivalent about the whole process.

Perhaps there is more going on behind the scenes than we know?...especially with the private school applicants as I would suspect the headmasters report is just as important as the results of the actual test as they have been assessing the boys for years. The heads will probably be trying to ensure that the "right" boys get in over the ones who have either been tutored heavily in the run up to the exam, or just had a lucky day....although having said that, there are always a few surprises and no-one is ever a dead cert!

Bert68 · 20/01/2015 13:49

Hi, just seen your discussion. There were 363 who sat. The call backs are for everyone and anyone - not just state school applicants as I know 7 called back this week from my son's school. These are the people who have done well in the exams but they have questions over and want to meet again. The HM said about half of those (so 30 of about 60) will get places. I don't know if that helps you any.

Tisawiedge · 20/01/2015 13:59

How do you know such a precise number? Have you asked the school and, if so, when are the 'no' letters out?
