Anyone applying here this year. Nervous already.

A friend of a friend who is in the know. No, I haven't been in touch. I just think we can't change things now so I'm just waiting and trying as best not to think about it. They will have already made a decision that will affect us unless our boys are back this week/next. According to HM and the website - No's for boys not called back for 2nd interview are end January

Kay34 · 20/01/2015 14:39

Bert, great info.
That means if you haven't had a letter yet your chances are now about 1 in 3. If you had an interview your chances are 1 in 2.
Any idea of number of offers that will be made? Given previous years postings some say no.

I don't know how many offers are made but we know that there are potentially 100 places for 11+ and 50 at 13+ out 363 applicants. A couple of years ago they added an extra class of 25 at 11+ but they don't have the space for that now. Apparently they don't really over offer but given some people will choose Hampton/CLFS et al. instead (not many granted) then they must over offer by a handful.

However, they don't waitlist from what I've heard. If they don't see 100 boys who they think suit the school and will thrive, they won't offer that many.

So you can kind of work out your odds from that. 100 places. Maybe 30 from the 60-odd 'call backs' and maybe another 70 out of a total of 250-300 (guessing majority go at 11+ especially given they take so many from state schools who must go at this entry point). So they take 100 out of 250-300 boys which isn't actually that bad odds really. Much better than say CLFS.

I don't know if that helps any! I'm not thinking about it. Next week we should all have a good idea of the future of our boys from whichever schools they have sat for.

Beebee50 · 21/01/2015 11:47

No letter received today

Beebee50 · 21/01/2015 11:48

Or rather we did get a letter today but saying no

Kay34 · 21/01/2015 12:00

Beebee, I'm so sorry. I hope you have some other options. Thanks for letting us know.

Those of us away from home today will not be looking forward to going home.

OP posts:
Bert68 · 21/01/2015 12:11

Beebee50, sorry about that. We are blessed with lots of great schools in the area so you will find the right one.

Did you apply for 11 or 13?

Tisawiedge · 21/01/2015 12:37

So sorry. I will have to wait until I get home - nightmare - they've obviously decided to send them out earlier.

Beebee50 · 21/01/2015 12:47

We applied for 11+ - we do have other options which I hope ds will find easier to do after rgs's exam!

Very disappointed but obviously not right for ds

butty4 · 21/01/2015 13:12

Beebee50, sorry to hear your news. Good Luck with the option you go with.. Really appreciate you letting all us anxious mums know that the 'no's' have been sent out. Another fretful day tomorrow of dodging the post!!!!

makemineadouble72 · 21/01/2015 13:29

Beebee50 - sorry to hear your news. Hope the other options come through! Wow - that is early to get the "no" letters. I wonder if they all go out at once? No-one I know has had one yet and we can't all have avoided the cull.....anyone else heard anything?

sazzy5 · 21/01/2015 13:35

Beebee50 I am really sorry, it is hard for you and your DS-hopefully you will get a school that is perfect for him.
Nothing in my post today, can't tell you how I hate the sound of letters dropping on the door mat!! I haven't heard anyone else say a thing so either they haven't seen their post yet or it is staggered (just to make it that much more agonising!).

Bert68 · 21/01/2015 14:08

Could it be staggered around the call back interviews? My friend's son was at the first lot yesterday. Maybe they interview, then based on that, send out the first lot of no's?

Maybe they phase them once they have interviewed on each day. If that is the case the last no's would come out around Feb 1st and the no's could be in tranches after each interview date. I can't remember them off the top of my head. Just a possible theory so nothing is sure until Feb really which doesn't help as it means a longer wait ….

Tisawiedge · 21/01/2015 14:19

The admissions team will know but not sure whether they would be able to tell you or if they're allowed?

butty4 · 21/01/2015 14:30

Do you think they are notifying the bottom 3rd , the definite 'no's now....then 2nd interviews which are happening this week and are not successful will be notified by the end of next week.Which will then take us to the end of January. If they are sending out all the definite 'no's today & tomorrow and we don't hear anything, there's a slim chance we are in!!!! Trying to be optimistic about the whole agonising wait!!!

Tisawiedge · 21/01/2015 14:51

From what little I know those interviewed hear nothing until the yes letters go out which is so awful. That will def be Feb

makemineadouble72 · 21/01/2015 15:03

Have now heard through the grapevine of a couple of "no" letters, so makes me think that perhaps they have been sent out yesterday, although some could still be on their way. Neither of the boys I know who got a "no" were interviewed, so were in the straight "no" pile. I can't think of a good reason to stagger these letters to be honest. I would expect that the "no" after interviews will come out at the start of February after all the interviews have taken place. Not sure about the "come back at 12+"....

beegee · 21/01/2015 15:48

Beebee..sorry to hear your news. Hope your DS is coping ok. Flowers

beegee · 21/01/2015 15:53

Just got back from recall interview. Glad that's over. DS was very nervous bless him. He came out with a little grin, thank goodness, and said he felt it went well. Blimey. I'm shattered with all this! Is it wine o'clock yet? X

Beebee50 · 21/01/2015 16:06

Haven't told ds as don't want to put him off other exams as it might shatter his confidence

Mumtogremlins · 22/01/2015 10:50

Not had an interview letter or a 'no' letter yet. He is 13 entry. Why does it have to take so long!

sazzy5 · 22/01/2015 12:20

Nothing in the post here but haven't heard of any other no's either. Really horrible for everyone and especially the boys. Let's hope no news is good news.....

beegee · 22/01/2015 12:22

That is probably a good sign. No news is good. Fingers crossed.
Flowers Wine
I love the hand holding on here. Really helps. Thanks to all x

Bert68 · 22/01/2015 12:23

Mumtogremlins - there are no interviews for 13, just for 11. For 13 it's either a come back at 12+ (which is instead of an interview) or a yes or a straight no. From what I understand these are around the 14th Feb with all the others. And still we wait ...

Kay34 · 22/01/2015 12:32

Beegee

did they mention yesterday when you would hear good or bad - assume its 12th Feb posting date for yes but do you have to wait until then for a no? Seems hardest on second interviewers and 13+ who could still get bad news on Feb 13. For those who dont hear presumably after end of january they can start to breathe again...
