carrotsandcelery · 05/01/2012 23:05

Inspired by the threads before Christmas, I was hoping we could get another thread going to motivate us as we sell and ask each other questions as we go along.

I am hoping to start selling again once the dc go back to school next week.

Anyone else want to join me?

Can i ask, do things tend to be quiet on a Sat afternoon. After lots of watchers and some bids up until yesterday its gone very quiet . I was hoping to get home from work to lots of watchers and some more bidding but nothing has happened all day.

carrotsandcelery · 14/01/2012 17:36

It tends to run a bit like Mumsnet and be quiet during family time and get busier in the evening. Saturday night is quiet tho IME.

fergoose · 14/01/2012 17:40

I think weekends are quieter for watchers and bidders - I find items ending Mon & Tues evening get most bids. Also many bidders only bid in the last few seconds of an auction ending.

roguepixie · 14/01/2012 21:31

Agree with the above - during the day on Saturday is quiet as many people are out and about. Sunday afternoons tend to be good, in my experience, as people sit around after dinner.

I have bids in for £105 for items ending tomorrow so, with last weeks haul, I am stand at £240, assuming everyone pays up. However, I have had listings where nothing at all has shifted. This time not one dvd has a bid on them...you just can't tell what will sell.

Good luck everyone.

Hello. Bit late to join this time, had 5 weeks off of eBay which has been brilliant and as we'd run out of things to list we had a good excuse. But we now have lots of things listed, some ours and some given to us by family. Like someone much earlier in the thread said, we've sold things this week that have been relisted at least 10 times previously.

Anyway HERE are our listings this week.

Loving that everyone is taking advantage of the scheduling trick but there's a bit of me that can't help thinking that eBay will crack on to it soon and start charging us for it Hmm, I've been doing it for 4 years now though:)

carrotsandcelery · 15/01/2012 09:17

Hi Dino - good to see you back with us.

That is a lot of stuff to list Shock Good luck with it all.

There hasn't been any movement on my listings over the weekend so far.

I will have to write some listings today or tomorrow so that I have more to list next week.

Well I re-listed some bits on free listing day not really expecting much interest, then DH asked me to put a couple of games on and we've made £45 in our first week!
I have loads more games to go on plus loads of stamps and other bits. I also have loads to re-list. All in all I'm happy with my start.

carrotsandcelery · 15/01/2012 11:39

Well done lollipop that is a fantastic start.

I think I will have to relist my Buy It Nows and reduce the price by £1 each and see if they will go. I also need to list some more items and it is sunny today so a good day for photos. I will have my Brew and at least get the photos taken.
What sort of games did you list lollipop and did you sell them in auction or buy it now? I have a few wii games to sell and didn't do brilliantly with buy it now with them before Christmas.

I've made about £35 in my first week, off 7 items. Not too bad, although gutted that one item sold for 99p! You win some and lose some I suppose! Long way to go to the £300 though - think I may have to sell my children....

CointreauVersial · 15/01/2012 12:32

I have seven items with bids on them finishing tonight - current tally about £20, but I'm hoping this will go up a little.

More items lined up, ready to be "de-scheduled" this evening, but I have one item which I forgot to schedule and listed straight away, so it ends at 10pm on Wednesday, or some such random time.

I'm never sure if it really makes a difference when you end an item - I certainly buy stuff ending all through the week, but I sometimes question the wisdom of people who end an auction at 6am on a weekday, as I'm not sure who on earth is eBaying then!

carrotsandcelery · 15/01/2012 12:42

I am thinking of moving to Monday and Tuesday nights, on Fergoose's advice.

I am a SAHM though so can spend the time listing on Monday and Tuesday mornings (in theory!)

I've sorted a few bits out to list tonight.

Mirage · 15/01/2012 16:58

I'd like to join in too.I've got to replace my car and need all the spare cash I can raise.Does anyone know when the next free listing weekend is? I've got some horsey stuff,Boden, kids DVDs ect to go.

mygirllollipop · 15/01/2012 17:08

CnC - they were both Xbox 360 games (one pretty new, the other very old but still made £1.50ish). The ones waiting to be listed are Wii, Playstastion and Xbox. Before xmas, nearly all the video games I had listed, sold. So I'm hopeful.

They'll probably be more toys to list too once I've tried to ram DDs' xmas ones into current storage and fail to get everything in, despite clearing out twice before xmas.

carrotsandcelery · 15/01/2012 17:14

Thanks lollipop. Did you just put them on as auctions?

OP posts:
sleepevader · 15/01/2012 18:18

Well so far out of my 16 items only 4 have no watchers but only 2 have actual bids- worth £30 so far less fees.

Mirage- I found last year they were doing three listing approx one every 3 weeks but you can also list 100 99p starting price auctions for free each month.

Am also going to change my auctions to 10 days and list on a free Saturday so they end on a tuesday.

sleepevader · 15/01/2012 18:20

Has anyone else been using Facebook sites to sell? I normally do clothes in bundles on them. I also advertise my stuff on those sites before eBay as it saves fees.

onadifferentplanet · 15/01/2012 18:33

Finished up with £42 today so very pleased with that to start with. Few things didnt sell. Have put another 21 for next Sunday! Someone suggested to me that this weekend might have been slow as everyone is skint until pay day? Already have a few watchers on the items for next week so very happy with how its going so far.

carrotsandcelery · 15/01/2012 18:34

Great news planet, I hope everyone else does as well. Smile

OP posts:
roguepixie · 15/01/2012 18:47

Right, my auction is now ending and am just waiting for the final things to finish but it looks like I have made the £300. Smile. If everyone pays up I will have collected £317.00 in the last 10 days.

Am chuffed to bits but am really into the Ebay 'zone' now so want to try and make another £200 by Easter - I have so many cd's and dvd's that need to sell so will list them over the next week and see how that goes.

Well done to everyone on this challenge.

carrotsandcelery · 15/01/2012 19:05

That's amazing rogue. I hope you will stay on the thread and spur us on to similar glory

OP posts:
roguepixie · 15/01/2012 19:35

carrots - you're not getting rid of me now Grin. I am thoroughly enjoying this thread and Ebaying. Grin

carrotsandcelery · 15/01/2012 20:27

Kerching! Final total for the week is £46.90, before fees though. Yay!

Glad you are sticking with us rogue Smile

I have relisted my unsold items. I will list more tomorrow.

How is everyone else getting on today?

OP posts:
DinosaursHateUnderpants · 15/01/2012 21:02

Made about £80 tonight.

I'm relisting everything that didn't sell tonight tomorrow night for 7 days so that we end on Monday nights from now on. Have just remembered how much I hate having to pack stuff on Sunday nights. We list at 99p anyway so it's free until we go over 100 auctions in a month.

And as predicted to DH yesterday, we've found another 30 new things to list as well:)

Sounds like everyone else is doing well tonight too.

carrotsandcelery · 15/01/2012 21:05

Where do you hide it all Dino?

Well done on the great takings tonight.
