Anyone interested in a £300 by Easter ebay selling thread?

Inspired by the threads before Christmas, I was hoping we could get another thread going to motivate us as we sell and ask each other questions as we go along.

I am hoping to start selling again once the dc go back to school next week.

Anyone else want to join me?

7 out of 10 things sold tonight, but only about £22 made (mostly kids clothes). Just realised I've got to pack and send the damned things!

carrotsandcelery · 16/01/2012 08:46

I have the parcels for posting ready and the box out ready to list some more items once the dcs are at school.

Cointreau the packing is not too bad if you invest in postage bags (I bought mine from ebay) as long as everyone pays up on time. It is a pest if you are running to the post office all the time because people take ages to pay.

Think of the lovely cash in your paypal account to motivate you along through it.

CnC - sorry I realised much later after I posted that I forgot to include that info. DH decided to sell the newer game so I struck while the iron was hot. He suggested BIN of £26 with free postage but was unhappy at the 20p fee, so I suggested 99p start one day auction and it fetched £32.50 - he was so nervous! The older game only fetched £1.50 but may not have fetched more if it had been on longer.
Before xmas they were a mixture of 3, 5, 7 and 10 day auctions and probably fetched as much as they were worth, though I didn't do completed listings research for any of the older games.

Well I'm all packaged up - just need to brave the PO.

carrotsandcelery · 16/01/2012 12:42

Thanks for that.

I am too chicken to do a one day listing Shock

I have listed heaps and heaps of wii games this morning. I have scheduled them so will go live with them tonight.

I bit the bullet and checked completed listings for them all to get ideas what I should start them at. It is very varied depending upon what game it is.

I have also relisted some things which were still in the ebay box and a few bit and pieces that dd has outgrown.

That is everything in the box listed so it is time to hunt down some new stock Grin

BTW I am friends with our local post office girl and she said Monday is a really busy day for posting. It might be that queues are smaller if we end auctions on Mondays and post on Tuesdays. Let us know how you all find the post office queues.

Carrots - I do have some plastic posting bags left over from my last eBay spree (about four years ago Blush); also I am a major mail-order shopper and have two boxes of used bags and padded envelopes ready and waiting. I'm sure once you get into the routine it is OK.

I think I will start off with Monday as my packing night and Tuesday at the PO, then the stragglers will have to wait til later in the week.

The DC's Infant School used to be right next to a PO, so sending parcels was dead easy to combine with the school run, but they have long since moved on, so a bit of walking is now required, oh well, good for fitness, I suppose.

carrotsandcelery · 16/01/2012 13:57

Sounds like you know what you are doing Cointreau. Smile

I hope everyone's buyers have paid up.

Didn't get round to listing last night.
I got a huge plastic box full of Steven king books out the loft but they don't look like they make any money on ebay. Not sure what to do with them

carrotsandcelery · 16/01/2012 20:43

Would they sell on Amazon Tortoise? I haven't done it yet myself but I keep meaning to try it.

OP posts:
Tortoise · 16/01/2012 21:39

No idea, amazon confuses me! Grin

carrotsandcelery · 16/01/2012 21:49

Ha ha! Me too Grin Which is why I haven't done it either. I thought I was doing well selling on ebay tbh.

CointreauVersial · 16/01/2012 22:21

Final tally from sales ending yesterday and today was £42, not bad for the first week! A few not yet paid, but the first lot is packed up and ready to go.

Small technical hitch - I've now run out of parcel tape. Grin

rebecklet · 17/01/2012 11:21

First listings are ending today and so far the running total is up to £147 for 34 items that will definitely sell :)

carrotsandcelery · 17/01/2012 11:37

rebecklet that is fantastic! Shock I am seriously impressed by these high earners. Can I ask what sort of stuff you were selling?

OP posts:
PurpleFrog · 17/01/2012 12:34

Wow rebecklet! That is really good going. And, of course, it might be more! Smile I hope you haven't overstretched yourself in the packaging department.

I spent around 1.5 - 2 hours last night packaging my 3 items which sold on Sunday evening. [And, before you ask, I have got plenty of plastic mailing bags and jiffy bags in various sizes! ] But, these were awkward items which required lots of bubble wrap and corrugated cardboard and parcel tape.

How do people who work full-time cope with packaging large numbers of things? I know that Friday is a bad evening for finishing, but it is tempting to have the whole weekend to process the sales..... Today, I am actually relieved that my other 4 items didn't sell as that would have meant that I would have struggled to carry them to bring them in to work today to take to the PO in my lunch hour! Blush

carrotsandcelery · 17/01/2012 12:41

That sounds really complicated Purple. I struggled enough to package boots such that their postage was affordable.

Most of what I have sold has been small clothing items and easily packaged quickly.

I suppose the trick would be to only list one or two tricky items a week so you don't spend too long packing.

Do people want to link to their lists here so that other ebayers can advise on listings and packaging?

MyOhMyOh · 17/01/2012 12:42

I'm waiting to have selling allowance increased from 10 per month so have only got 3 things on now which have no watchers or bidders Sad

I havent put anything on 99p yet, think I'd be gutted if something decent went for so little, but I know I'll have to take the plunge. Does anyone find that they're surprised by how much it all adds up to, if you put a lot on for 99p start?

ragged · 17/01/2012 13:36

How do you find local Facebook selling site?

I sold on Amazon long time back, but if I try to do it now I get taken to the AMERICAN Amazon (I have never sold anything there), and I can't find a way to list in GBP and in Britain only. Very frustrating! No idea what I'm doing wrong. The fees on Amazon are around 20%, too.

carrotsandcelery · 17/01/2012 13:43

MyOh it does add up if you manage to sell a lot at 99p. I only put something on at 99p if it is not that great though as I got fed up selling decent pieces of clothing for so little.

I tend to put things on at a higher price, knowing I will have to pay fees and probably relist a few times, but I still make more profit that way and all but a couple of items have sold that way so far.

I have 21 items listed and not a single watcher yet. I have checked my prices and they are competitive so I will just have to sit it out. Yikes!

I will go and have a nosey at Facebook and see if I can figure out how you sell there.

OP posts:
carrotsandcelery · 17/01/2012 13:48

When I go onto Facebook and type in "selling" in my search I get a site that is called, "Buy, Swap and Sell - and then my local area is named". Is there anything similar in your area? People have taken pics of furniture, toys etc and the price they expect for them is listed as well.

I know people who have done it for items which are too big or expensive to post. I don't think you have any fees either so I imagine it would be cash on collection.

OP posts:
MyOhMyOh · 17/01/2012 13:48

Thanks Carrots, think I'll bung some pairs of used but decent baby stuff on for 99p and see what happens, as I've just found the 'fees' section on my ebay and nearly passed out when I saw it has cost me about 20% of what I've made Shock

And sorry, I didnt realise I'd x-posted with you there. I added a link to my ebay a while ago but then got it deleted as didnt think it was the done thing Blush

carrotsandcelery · 17/01/2012 13:54

On the last thread people did link to their selling lists. Others on the thread often bought their items or advised on how they could list them in a more successful manner.

I don't link as my ebay name would out me on here.

OP posts:
carrotsandcelery · 17/01/2012 13:55

I finally have 2 watchers. Yay!

rebecklet · 17/01/2012 13:59

Thanks carrotsandcelery and PurpleFrog I got into collecting and trading Disney Pins and I am selling all my traders - I have also been selling the monkeys from my Kipling bags (we bought some luggage in the US on our last trip) so I have quite a few. When I'm done with those it will be on to Wii games, clothes, shoes...... can you tell our house is full of junk?!

carrotsandcelery · 17/01/2012 14:04

Ah so they were collector's items. Well done rebecklet. I am mostly selling wii games this week. My house is full of "treasure" too.
