Anyone interested in a £300 by Easter ebay selling thread?

carrotsandcelery · 05/01/2012 23:05

Inspired by the threads before Christmas, I was hoping we could get another thread going to motivate us as we sell and ask each other questions as we go along.

I am hoping to start selling again once the dc go back to school next week.

Anyone else want to join me?

Yep Tortoise I got the free listings weekend email too - it's going to be hard work to rustle up another 100 items to list for this weekend. As I list for 10 days, last weekends free listings are still active!

fergoose · 23/03/2012 08:43

the seller must have put in the wrong email address then Tortoise. Why not pull sellers details and phone them?

carrotsandcelery · 23/03/2012 12:45

Cointreau thanks for that. Very helpful. I wasn't keen to post without a full address. I got it away last night so I am now saying a little prayer they will be happy with it.

I'm only going to list for 5 days again I think. Quicker they end the better as only a week until go on holiday.Smile

carrotsandcelery · 23/03/2012 13:58

I may just relist what doesn't sell on Sunday night as we have a very busy weekend ahead.

I also don't want to be overwhelmed with parceling and posting on the first couple of days of their holiday as we break up a week today as well.

Is there a free listing weekend due this weekend?

CointreauVersial · 23/03/2012 16:44

I'm just photographing all my school summer dresses to list. I gave a fair few to a neighbour but I still found piles in the loft. Including quite a few unworn, because the DDs have boycotted them and stay in winter uniform all year round. Angry

mirpuppet · 23/03/2012 18:35

I'm in just found this thread I've sold about 100 pounds worth in teh last month; so 200 to go for the next two weeks. I think I can do it.

As it is free listing weekend I'm thinking of going with 5 days to hopefully have it all posted away before Easter. Is this a bad idea? I have usually done 10 days with free listing but not sure if extra time makes such a difference?

ragged · 23/03/2012 20:46

Someone will pay late, whilst you're away, and then you won't post within your expected (stated) time window.
Which you can work it find as long as you state in item description (glowing neon letters?) that you are away on X dates so payment after Y date means no posting until at least Z date.

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 24/03/2012 18:59

Can I join in too? I read your thread last week, the first lot finished for just over £50 and has been posted, and I got 63 items listed last weekend to finish next Wednesday- I'm going to regret that at the post office! That was my best stuff, so hopefully get a decent amount for it.

Just listing again now- who's bright idea was it to have two weekends on the trot?? But hopefully, after this, I should be empty of crap treasures in my house. It's pretty much all been DDs too small clothes so far, so anything I get is a bonus- it's all been sitting unloved in suitcases anyway.

carrotsandcelery · 24/03/2012 23:01

Welcome to all the new people on the thread. Smile

I am very slowly gathering watchers and hoping like mad that they turn into bidders tomorrow.

Tortoise · 25/03/2012 15:05

25 items scheduled so far. Couple more to do but can do them tonight. Ive sat here for long enough today! On all of them I have put if payment not made after listing ends item won't be posted until 7th April. Got them on 5 day listing so end Fri and I can post Saturday before going away Monday!

CointreauVersial · 25/03/2012 17:26

Oh, come on people, get out of the sunshine and bid on my stuff!

14 watchers for my rabbit hutch, but no-one has pressed the bid button yet.

8 watchers for the bunk bed, but just one measly bid (and it's someone with a zero feedback - always makes me nervous). The person who was asking me to end the auction early came back to me too late, I already had a bid by then.

I sat outside this afternoon squinting at the laptop and managed to list some stuff for today, including a boxed Star Wars Lightsaber that DS1 never touched - recently an identical one went for £47, so fingers crossed. School summer dresses listed too (all nine of them).

mogs0 · 25/03/2012 19:26

I have scheduled only one item for tonight so far! It is yet another buggy though so hoping it does well. I really must stop buying the things Grin.

I think I'm going to do what I did last week and just put the title and say description and photo to follow. It worked quite well for me last week...although there are still a couple of items that I haven't got around to updating Blush. I might end them early and list again tonight.

CointreauVersial · 25/03/2012 20:05

26 items listed so far, and by the looks of it I'll be relisting my pesky rabbit hutch and TV. Angry

carrotsandcelery · 25/03/2012 20:29

I only have 2 bids so far for a whopping 99p and £1.99. I would still be adding that to the £30 earlier in the week though so don't feel so bad as the aim was to make an average of £30 per week.

OP posts:
BreakOutTheKaraoke · 25/03/2012 20:41

Loads have people have been bidding today! Or maybe not loads, but more than have been doing anyway! I have more to list, but I've been at work all day, and had a pint of strongbow after, so I give up now. It will all go on for 99p instead. I've found listing at £1.50 such a difference though, it's really bumped up my totals.

This is all my gear if anyone wants a nosy...

Tortoise · 25/03/2012 21:31

Here's tonights listings Looky here!

carrotsandcelery · 25/03/2012 22:11

I made another £30 tonight in the end Grin which brings my total for the week to £60 and my grand total for the challenge to £280. Soooo close!

Loads relisted now but nothing new so we will see if any of it bites this time.

Do you ever get worried when you list something a bit naff at 99p and end up with a little bidding war over it? [guilt emoticon]

OP posts:
Tortoise · 25/03/2012 22:23

I know what you mean carrots.

carrotsandcelery · 25/03/2012 22:23

Oh no! Karma has got me already Shock

The buyer of the slightly naff item has asked me to deliver to a different address. I am not supposed to do that am I?

Any suggestions what to do?

The item only cost them £3 if that is relevant but it will be £5 for them with postage.

OP posts:
fergoose · 25/03/2012 22:51

no you only send to the paypal address, if they want it sent somewhere different you need to refund, then they add new address to paypal then pay again choosing the correct address

CointreauVersial · 25/03/2012 23:10

Well, the rabbit hutch made £25, and the buyer has already been in touch to arrange collection. The bunk bed made only £31 (I blame DH - the photo was lousy - he didn't even make the flipping bed, but I didn't see the pics until the bed was in pieces!). The buyer is a newby with zero feedback, but I'm hoping they don't waste my time (I know everyone has to start somewhere, but I do like to see a solid record).

The TV didn't sell, but to be honest it's a CRT dinosaur which we bought on eBay ourselves for a tenner, so I'm not expecting much. If it doesn't go this week we'll try and find somewhere charitable for it.

I must be around the £270 mark, but I have lost track! Fergoose - how do I look further back than 60 days - is it possible?

Tortoise · 25/03/2012 23:56

I have taken a chance and posted to different address before. I check feedback to see if they are a good Ebayer. For a few quid I would risk it. But probably not good advice lol.

CointreauVersial · 25/03/2012 23:58

Another question for your, Fergoose - if something is being sold collection only, then apparently having it paid by Paypal is a bad idea (no proof of delivery, lots of people being defrauded blah blah blah).

But when I listed my TV eBay forced me to include Paypal as a method of payment.......How do I get round that, or is it just a case of putting a comment in the listing about cash only?
