Anyone interested in a £300 by Easter ebay selling thread?

carrotsandcelery · 05/01/2012 23:05

Inspired by the threads before Christmas, I was hoping we could get another thread going to motivate us as we sell and ask each other questions as we go along.

I am hoping to start selling again once the dc go back to school next week.

Anyone else want to join me?

just write cash on collection - and if they do pay by paypal refund them and ask for cash.

eBay really need to address this compulsory paypal on the listings - so many sellers are unaware and get stung not realising it is not safe for collection items.

carrotsandcelery · 26/03/2012 09:31

Thanks fergoose I have refunded and offered them the option to adjust their address on paypal. Tortoise I know what you mean. I could probably take the risk as I think this is a genuine oversight on their part. I have said I will post it first class to speed things up when they have adjusted the address so hopefully I am meeting them half way.

I have a lot of non payers so far today. My listings ended a bit late so I suspect many people had already gone to bed. Not good for bidding wars.

I am totally shocked as a tiny aftershave which I have listed and relisted countless times has suddenly been bid on last night. Yay! I don't expect it to go beyond the current price but I am still chuffed as I considered binning it last night rather than relisting. It is a good travel size though so someone has obviously seen the advantage. Grin

Bed guy has paid by Paypal grrr......I spoke to him today, and he's reluctant to take a refund and pay cash.....

If I get him to sign something to say he's taken the bed I should be covered, surely?

I mean, it's only £31, so not the end of the world if he's a rip-off merchant (surely they're after iPads, not 2nd hand bunk beds)?

Tortoise · 26/03/2012 13:26

Some buyers make me laugh! Just had an email about item that ended Friday night. They said 'I won these 3 days ago and see they haven't been posted yet.' Well as 1 of those days was a Sunday and today isn't over yet its not really a surprise they aren't marked as dispatched. Told them I will send tomorrow as can't today! I could but they cheesed me off with their impatience lol!

fergoose · 26/03/2012 13:31

no a buyer signing something means nothing and you will not be covered - cash on collection or no item. If he is not happy just relist or second chance offer.

mogs0 · 26/03/2012 13:32

I've had a couple of buyers pay by paypal for collection only items. They are wary of accepting refund and paying cash because it takes paypal so long to actually return the money into their bank account (3-5 working days?) so if they then pay you cash in the meantime they are, in effect, paying twice (until the refund actually hits their account).

carrotsandcelery · 26/03/2012 13:40

Oh no! I hope that doesn't affect the buyer I have refunded then Shock

carrotsandcelery · 26/03/2012 13:42

I only have 2 payers this week. What is going on? I have parcelled up their loot and fortunately the 2 biggest items are now going out of the way. It takes ages to package the delicate stuff. I need to look for a cheap bubble wrap supplier as I have used up all my scavenged stuff and will need more. It is £3 for a teeny weeny roll in our local shop which would wipe out profit on some items.

OP posts:
mogs0 · 26/03/2012 13:43

Maybe it would be instant if they paid with PP balance? If it were me, I wouldn't be too bothered because you get a confirmation email to say the refund has been actioned and if it's not a large amount of money then I should have enough funds to temporarily cover the extra. One of the payments I received was for £160 so I can understand the buyer's reluctance to pay cash before the refund had been returned to his bank account.

carrotsandcelery · 26/03/2012 13:47

I have just ordered a huge roll from ebay Grin

Another item already has a bid. Both of these items were available last week. I suppose you just have to be in the right place at the right time. It is definitely worth keeping unsold items and relisting them every free listing weekend.

I only sold a pair of winter boots (relisted) for a fiver.I think my total is about 250 (it keeps going down, maybe because of paypal fees)and I have 9 items for next weekend,I might make it! A huge box of lovely stuff is going to the charity shop tomorrow, all relistings which didn`t sell.

Tortoise · 26/03/2012 20:39

Some how I accidently listed one of my items on a 1 day listing! Just relisted it for 3 days.

carrotsandcelery · 26/03/2012 20:56

jardy if you can cope with having the stuff in the house then keep relisting on free listing weekends. It does sell eventually. I only have books that have never sold.

Aargh, just checked my stuff thats finishing tonight, and it's all finishing an hour later than planned because of the clock change! Rather than finishing betweeb 8-9.30 pm, its 9-10.30, that's bloody late isn't it? People, please stay up and bid!

PurpleFrog · 27/03/2012 09:01

I made the same mistake! I have 11 items finishing tonight, with the latest finishing just before 10.00pm! However, 3 already have bids so I am keeping my fingers crossed.....

CointreauVersial · 27/03/2012 12:54

Thank goodness I didn't list til Sunday.

I've refunded bed guy's Paypal - I think he is legit, but I decided to be careful. He just needs to get his sh*t together and come and collect the damned thing. Ditto rabbit hutch lady.

carrotsandcelery · 27/03/2012 14:00

Thank goodness I didn't list until Sunday too. I listed them too late as it was.

I have just listed another item that seemed to vanish from my listings on Mother's Day. A buyer asked if it was available as I had mentioned I had a co-ordinating item in the listing for the item she bought.

I put a BIN on it incase she wants it quickly but feel a bit mean as the 40% more ruling makes it a bit pricey.

All but one items are now posted. I still have a late payer so can't post the last yet.

jardy · 27/03/2012 20:53

carrotsandcelery thank you but too late! I have given the stuff away.
I only have a tiny house and frankly the clutter was getting me down.I will be selling quite a few summer dresses etc in the next few weeks.Unlike bulky vases I can squash those down in a bin bag and stuff it under the bed.Cointreau, what a pain,I too have had a few non-payers,but the most annoying are those that do not turn up to pay on collection due to Buyers Remorse-learnt that useful phrase here!Overall I have been amazed at how much I have sold and more to the point how much I have learnt,it`s been a rewarding experience and hopefully I will continue,as the money in my paypal account is wonderful (only a couple of hundred but that can buy a lot of clothes on ebay!)

mogs0 · 27/03/2012 22:42

Yay, £150 tonight! A few items didn't sell but I think I was being a bit optimistic with them anyway. I think they'll sell better at a carboot so will save that lot for a sunny sunday Grin.

I really hope the buggy I have listed sells well as I realised today that my Paypal balance has gone Blush...too much spendingBlushBlush.

There are a few big things ending tomorrow which are for collection only so I'm hoping for a quick collection and looking forward to a bit of cleared space!

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 28/03/2012 09:12

All but one of last nights items sold, made around £120 from 30ish items. Most of tonights will sell, and I think a couple of the summer dresses and outfits will go really well- a couple at £10-11 already, with twenty-odd watchers!

Find it really strange what sells well and what doesn't. A Next barely worn dress goes for £1.50, while a Primark dress with a stain on, all pictured and mentioned, went for £8.50!

Found I've got a lot more interest from adding international postage options onto mine, one bidder in germany has already won 8 items, and bidded on a lot more too.

PurpleFrog · 28/03/2012 09:54

I sold 5 of my 11 items that finished last night. All the things that sold were schoolwear, and since they are all neatly ironed and taking up room in my wardrobe I am glad they are the ones that went! Grin

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 28/03/2012 21:24

Unfortunately, we wear schoolwear til it's trashed in this house! Had 65 items finish yesterday and today, my grand total is around £370- not bad for two weekends of listing! However I've just had my first person try to pull out of the sale, grrr. She bought some perfume for her mum, her mum doesn't want it because it's used. See what comes of the second chance offer.

How is everyone else doing? EVeryone on track?

carrotsandcelery · 28/03/2012 21:46

Dd's schoolwear is always immaculate when it is outgrown but ds's needs to be replaced before it is outgrown.

OP posts:
ragged · 29/03/2012 14:45

Oh heavens, nowhere near the target, but still glad to be £100+ up (most of that is not from Ebay sales, but however I get it, am happy).

I find June-July best for flogging school wear, people wanting stuff for autumn.

PurpleFrog · 29/03/2012 15:04

My schoolwear was mainly short-sleeved blouses so I reckoned this was a good time of year, especially since some were M&S ones that are currently out of stock on-line in that style and size!

I have a few Nintendo games finishing this weekend, then I am going to take a break from eBay until after the holidays. dd is complaining that some of her recently-unearthed summer clothes are too tight so I'll try and get her to do a wardrobe clearout next week.
