I'm heterosexual.

mabel9 · 04/08/2020 15:29

@Bingobongo1 that’s amazing you had twins on your last go, what a great surprise. I’m a twin myself. 😊
My iui was unmedicated, I’m unsure whether I’ll go to medicated if this one doesn’t work.

@mabel9 I know it sounds daft but I feel like doing a medicated cycle has made me feel more in control. It's given me something to do other than wait around!

Tasha1607 · 04/08/2020 16:39

@BananaHammock23 I am doing IUI privately and funnily enough in the same figure. We have been told we can get 3 tries of IUI a possibly 4th depending on how the other cycles went. And then it is into IVF

Tasha1607 · 04/08/2020 16:43

@Bingobongo1 was there anything you noticed different on the cycle you conceived on to the ones you didn't?

mabel9 · 04/08/2020 17:46

Have any of you felt discouraged from your clinic from going down the iui route? Have they pushed ivf?

@Tasha1607
I do think they didn't monitor me closely enough (I am easily over stimulated) and at the time the clinic were less individual focused and more guideline focused so because insemination was normal on day x that's what they did in reality I needed insemination to happen 2 days earlier than guidelines and it wasn't till they looked at my results after 3 failed rounds that they changed the way I was monitored. I don't think this would happen now as fertility treatment has come along way since then and is much more individualised. The failures did help show patterns and instigated how they did the last two rounds however that was more to do with dosage of drugs and frequency of monitoring due to how my body had reacted.

Well after conceiving DD first time we thought it would be a piece of cake to conceive with IUI again. Unfortunately had 5 failed attempts before attempting IVF - which worked first time.

I was 37/38 with the subsequent attempts and my cycle had changed, I had a short luteal phase which i think was the issue. With hindsight I wish we'd tried IVF sooner but hindsight is a wonderful thing!

Tasha1607 · 04/08/2020 21:19

@Bingobongo1 thank you so much for that! I really appreciate it.

@mabel9 I would say we didn't really have a choice in picking what route we took. It was a matter of taking their advice. I do think sometimes that maybe they've done this to get money out of us. But surely they wouldn't do that. I think it's just natural worries you have about it.

Try think positive about it. I'm sure you'll get that beautiful baby.

BananaHammock23 · 05/08/2020 00:16

@Tasha1607 it's expensive isn't it! I think if it wasn't for the money I'd probably try 3-4 IUIs before moving on to IVF. We only have four vials of donor sperm and in an ideal world that'd so a sibling as well! So I'm kind of thinking if we do one IUI then move to IVF, we'll (hopefully!) be able to create more embryos from one vial. So while the treatment is more expensive, we'd save on sperm... at least that's what I keep telling myself!

BananaHammock23 · 05/08/2020 08:10

@mabel9 we're with London Women's Clinic in Canterbury and the consultant there was great at laying out the options and letting us choose. He said we could do either IUI or IVF but explained IVF if a bit more invasive etc so we chose IUI. I don't feel like we've been pushed towards one more than the other really. Do you?

mabel9 · 05/08/2020 11:21

Hi @BananaHammock23 no I didn’t feel pushed which was good but I’ve heard conflicting stories. Did you get lots of fertility tests? Which ones did they do? 8dpo today!

OP posts:
Tasha1607 · 05/08/2020 14:58

@BananaHammock23 yeah that sounds like a good plan. I'm in a same sex couple, and we decided IUI with 3 vials of sperm. We have always wanted to egg share so we said if the IUI doesn't work then we would go onto the egg share and then we would only have to pay for the Sperm and not the treatment.

Got to say I am struggling today. I feel completely wiped out. So fatigued. Confused

BananaHammock23 · 06/08/2020 12:01

Eek fingers crossed for you @Tasha1607 – keep us updated!

I had my week scan yesterday and they've upped my dose of Menopur from once every three days to once a day as my follicles aren't developing very well. Fingers crossed we'll be able to have the procedure late next week.

Gidget19 · 07/08/2020 11:16

Hey, I have just done my first round of stimulated IUI and found out I am pregnant this week..... eek! Now I’m desperate to know if I need to be mentally planning for one or two babies (assuming all goes well, it’s very early days).
I know I had two eggs but am wondering what would have happened to the second egg if it wasn’t fertilised or didn’t implant? Does anyone know? I have had zero bleeding but lots of cramping. I’m taking this as a twin sign and though the idea of twins was absolutely fine initially and will be fine once I get used to it again I am a single parent and now slightly freaking out at the prospect!

mabel9 · 07/08/2020 15:08

Congratulations @Gidget19 how exciting!! Did you have any symptoms? I’m guessing you’ll have to wait till your scan. Do you get an early one?

OP posts:
Gidget19 · 07/08/2020 15:46

Thanks! I’ve had cramping but so far no other symptoms and this is three weeks since the procedure (so technically 5 weeks pregnant). My scan with the clinic is in three weeks so guess I will have to wait.

mabel9 · 07/08/2020 17:02

Very exciting @Gidget19 did you get cramping before your positive test? How would you feel if it was twins?

OP posts:
BananaHammock23 · 07/08/2020 17:17

Congratulations @Gidget19 that's amazing.

We're just out of the clinic... I'm on day 10 of my first cycle of stimulated IUI but there are no dominant follicles so there's a pretty high chance (80% says the nurse) that we might have to cancel the round. Pretty gutted but apparently it's common in PCOS for the follicles to resist

Gidget19 · 07/08/2020 17:27

I’m sorry to hear that. A cancelled cycle means you still get to do it again though doesn’t it, without paying again? I know it’s not a huge consolation though.

@mabel9 I originally said “yes of course twins would be fine” when the consultant said there was a high chance and I’d obviously be thrilled (eventually). I’m just still in the daunted stage. I went from no babies to potentially two which would make me instantly outnumbered!

BananaHammock23 · 07/08/2020 17:33

@Gidget19 We still have to pay £500 for the scans we've had, plus the medication costs obviously. So we'd be looking at losing around £700. That means there's still £800 with the clinic to go towards our next round which still doesn't seem like that much when we have to find another £700!

I'm considering going straight to IVF if this is going to be an issue. We really can't afford to be losing that much a go if IUI isn't going to work for us... I do, however, have to lose 2 stone before we can even start IVF (I've already lost 2), so it's a rough old journey!

BananaHammock23 · 07/08/2020 17:34

@mabel9 @Tasha1607 when do you get to test? It must be getting close now!!

Gidget19 · 07/08/2020 17:39

Well done for the weight loss so far, it’s amazing what the idea of a child will make us do. I’ve been doing yoga and eating more dairy than I’m happy with for months!

What has your consultant said about the lack of egg growth?

Tasha1607 · 07/08/2020 18:15

@Gidget19 that's fantastic news! Thank you for sharing that! It's so exciting.

@BananaHammock23 my test day is actually Tuesday. I was really convinced that this time it had happened. My symptoms are different to my first round. But as the days get closer anxiety is kicking in. It's so hard not to get your hopes up.

mabel9 · 07/08/2020 20:17

Hi @BananaHammock23 I’m sorry to hear your cycle may be cancelled, how unfair! When do you hear for definite?

I’m testing on Wednesday and I’m the same as @Tasha1607, I’ve convinced myself it hasn’t worked and just waiting for the negative test.
