At Home Insemination - Buddies?

H8624 · 15/02/2020 17:58

For several reasons hubby and I are going down the route of at home insemination. It can be quite a lonely process I think - does anyone want to join me and we can go through it together/share tips etc?

Bit of background - we've tried for 2 months now both unsuccessful. I'm using clearblue ovulation detector to get my peak, and we've been doing the insemination every day from when I get my flashing smiley to the day after the peak, give or take the odd day! Using 10ml syringes and laying down afterwards for 20-30 mins.

Finding the 2ww a real struggle, and my heart breaks every time AF comes! I know it's only been 2 cycles and could take a lot longer so need to be patient! Altho feel like everyone around me is having babies which doesn't help!

Anyway sorry for going on - anyone want to join and share their experiences/tips? Need some motivation and hope!

I think you need to keep your own sanity through this process @bitheby it's so easy to become consumed in something you want so badly. Hopefully a more relaxed month for you x

At least you know where you are now @Waiting2BAMummy, I always found AF arriving more therapeutic for me in the sense it just 'reset' me almost each month even if wasn't the outcome I wanted.

I'm feeling ok, still pretty exhausted, and basically my survival is based on toast throughout the day to stave off nausea lol midwife tomorrow for booking in though so feeling good to get things moving x

Overlyanxious · 24/11/2020 11:21

@Waiting2BAMummy you’ve got to take the positive where you can - let’s hope this month is your month.

@ChunkyButFunky87 that’s good things are getting moving.

I’m feeling really low today. So far all the pregnancy news has been for people I don’t know that well but I’ve now found out my boss is pregnant and one of my friends has just started trying - so I’m feeling the extra pressure of having people to compare myself with.

ChunkyButFunky87 · 24/11/2020 11:31

Sorry you're feeling low @Overlyanxious but it's totally allowed. I always think pregnancy/births seem to escalate when you're trying and conscious - especially after my miscarriage, it felt like every Tom dick and Harry was pregnant and it just hurts.

You don't wish people any ill will, you just wish you were in 'the club'. Been there, hugs xx

Overlyanxious · 24/11/2020 12:29

Thanks @ChunkyButFunky87 I keep telling myself it will happen at some point - but it’s tough.

Waiting2BAMummy · 24/11/2020 12:43

I hear you @Overlyanxious I’m going into my third year of trying and I know people who have gotten pregnant, had their baby and are now pregnant again in the time I’ve been trying. I’m also 39 now so have given myself until I turn 40 and then I feel like I need to accept it isn’t going to happen. I find reading success stories and things they did differently that month helps as I feel like I’m actually doing something. I started taking inofolic alpha almost 2 weeks ago as I’ve read great review about inositol (the active ingredient).

It’s so hard to stay positive especially when pregnancy announcements are so close to home.

Sending you hugs and lots of luck for this month. Hopefully we’ll both get our BFP’s - that’s the only Christmas present I want!!

Good luck xx

Hi everyone
Just jumping on this post today. Congratulations to all you ladies who have conceived since starting this thread. Fab to see some success stories.
My story: So far I’ve had two failed iui in August & September hubby has a fluctuating sperm count which makes life difficult, he had a high of 18m before the iuis but dropped to 10 & 8 consecutively for iui.
We will prob end up with ivf but funds are too low at the mo.
In the meantime we are using LH sticks and diy AI one cycle down without success but
Fertile window due to start tomorrow so fingers crossed for this month x

Waiting2BAMummy · 24/11/2020 20:44

Welcome @Nej1983. Good luck for this cycle x

Nej1983 · 24/11/2020 20:51

Thank you! Great to find other people on the same journey x

Overlyanxious · 24/11/2020 23:14

@Nej1983 welcome and fingers crossed for you this month

Thanks @Waiting2BAMummy and I’m sorry you’ve had so many experiences of this. Wishing you lots of luck xx

Nej1983 · 25/11/2020 12:42

Out of curiosity
How much do you all inseminate each month? Hubby is up from twice a day for fertile week but i wonder is it diminishing his overall count or can it actually improve it, dr Google seems to be confused on the matter 😅

H8624 · 25/11/2020 12:50

@Nej1983 I used to do either every day or every other day. Was every other day the month I conceived.

More than once a day does seem like a lot!

@Nej1983 welcome and good luck.
We used to inseminate 1 or 2 days a cycle, timing is key

ChunkyButFunky87 · 26/11/2020 11:04

Welcome @Nej1983 yes it's not recommended, day in between gives sperm chance to replenish apparently.

We conceived with just 1 go back in April, sadly ended in miscarriage and we conceived our current pregnancy on 2 attempts, which did end up being 2 days in a row for some reason, but I wouldn't stress yourself with multiple times a day

Nej1983 · 26/11/2020 12:55

Thanks girls
I was thinking it was a bit much. Think he was just being overly eager for this to work after getting the projected costs of Ivf from clinic 😅😅😅

Nej1983 · 26/11/2020 12:56

@ChunkyButFunky87
Sorry to hear you miscarried but congrats on the current pregnancy x

Overlyanxious · 27/11/2020 11:27

@Nej1983 I only get one donation a month as my donor is unable to commit to anymore. I did get pregnant from the one, but unfortunately that ended in a miscarriage.

I got my donor sperm last night and it felt like a dodgy drug deal. My donor works in a hospital and lives in the hospital grounds so we had to meet outside the gate and he slipped his donation into my bag Grin

ChunkyButFunky87 · 27/11/2020 11:35

Morning all,

So had a reassurance scan this morning, 8 weeks today, measuring spot on, saw heart beat and what looks to be my future star fish lol

Feeling a little more at ease now

At Home Insemination - Buddies?
Overlyanxious · 27/11/2020 11:40

@ChunkyButFunky87 that’s great. Hopefully the next few weeks will go quickly for your next scan

Waiting2BAMummy · 27/11/2020 19:02

That’s great news @ChunkyButFunky87 what a beautiful star fish! x

Busybee143 · 27/11/2020 22:16

@ChunkyButFunky87 yeyyy congrats! What a beautiful scan!
I had my '16' week midwife appointment on Tuesday and all was good, midwife found the heartbeat straight away and it was nice and strong 😁
Two weeks today until my 20 week scan, roll on the 11th! Fingers crossed everything will go well, I still have only really told close friends and family so I'm hoping my 20 week scan will give me the confidence to tell more people. I'm sorry I know that must sound insane to an outsider, I am over the moon I'm pregnant but I'm still very nervous.
Where are all you guys up to in your cycle?

Waiting2BAMummy · 27/11/2020 22:20

That’s great news @Busybee143 almost half way there. Baby yoda will be here before you know it.

I’m on CD5 today, taking soy isoflavones again this month and have a donor lined up for at least one attempt. I had another guy keep messaging me but when I refused to sleep with him suddenly he doesn’t want to be my donor because I don’t want him involved!

Overlyanxious · 28/11/2020 11:30

@Busybee143 oh wow 20 weeks isn’t too far away. I can understand why you don’t want to tell too many people. I feel like I will be the same when I get pregnant.

@Waiting2BAMummy oh what a jerk.

Nej1983 · 28/11/2020 23:29

Thanks ladies took your advice and cut down the hubby’s plans for twice a day. Fertile period is over for this cycle so will have to wait and see about next month,

@ChunkyButFunky87 your little starfish looks beautiful

Busybee143 · 29/11/2020 11:52

@Waiting2BAMummy what a creep, you should have met him so you could have slapped him 😂 bloody creepy men eh! Stay safe!!
@Overlyanxious it doesn't help that apart from my fat belly I don't feel pregnant yet just like I've had one too many Christmas dinners 😂

Coolhand2 · 29/11/2020 14:45

That's a beautiful lovely star @ChunkyButFunky87 🥰, great you are feeling at ease now, enjoy every moment.

@Busybee143, can't believe you are almost half way, it feels like it was just yesterday when you announced, time does fly. That's great news that everything is well. I usually announce to people around 6mths, you are almost there too. Are you going to do maternity photos?

@Waiting2BAMummy, you don't need guys like him, I wonder why some people act like a jerk. It's great you have someone lined up already.

@Overlyanxious, that's so funny about the dodgy drug deal, lol, we gotta do what we gotta do. Hopefully this is your month🤞

I am CD12 today and my fertile week is about to start. I kept saying I should buy opks since the ones I had finished but I forgot, but I will still order them for next cycles. I need to figure out which days to SI going by premom/Ava. This is like a project, we are developing our project management skills. It will become handy in my real job lol.
