At Home Insemination - Buddies?

H8624 · 15/02/2020 17:58

For several reasons hubby and I are going down the route of at home insemination. It can be quite a lonely process I think - does anyone want to join me and we can go through it together/share tips etc?

Bit of background - we've tried for 2 months now both unsuccessful. I'm using clearblue ovulation detector to get my peak, and we've been doing the insemination every day from when I get my flashing smiley to the day after the peak, give or take the odd day! Using 10ml syringes and laying down afterwards for 20-30 mins.

Finding the 2ww a real struggle, and my heart breaks every time AF comes! I know it's only been 2 cycles and could take a lot longer so need to be patient! Altho feel like everyone around me is having babies which doesn't help!

Anyway sorry for going on - anyone want to join and share their experiences/tips? Need some motivation and hope!

@Overlyanxious we decided to do the first one in CD13 (which in theory should cover 13, 14 and 15) and then if I havnt ovulated to do another one at CD 16 but if I have then to skip the second one. He was happy with this as it doesn’t mean it necessarily always twice and at the same time it takes some of the pressure off me to get it 100% right every cycle.

I try to use my CM as I find other things variably consistent. I tend to get it 2 days before I ovulate and it peaks the day of. Temps are only useful for me in retrospect and the LH sticks have shown different ‘darkness’ at peak and also a variable time interval between ‘peak’ and ovulation.

I think the day of the surge is a good day if you can arrange it at short notice though.

Coolhand2 · 14/11/2020 19:57

Thank you ladies😍
@Overlyanxious, I think day before LH surge would be best and 1 more after if possible.

Waiting2BAMummy · 14/11/2020 20:29

I believe I ovulate soon after my surge too @Overlyanxious so I agree the day before (and day of if you are able) is definitely a good idea.

Morning ladies,

How's everyone doing?

It's safe to say exhaustion has hit, like I can barely keep my eyes open and it's 11am, but as manager and working 10 hour shifts I can't really get round it. I could happily go curl up in my car and sleep right about now. I just feel wiped

Waiting2BAMummy · 16/11/2020 11:15

Bless you @ChunkyButFunky87 is it awful to say that’s great news?! I only mean I’m as much as it’s a good sign you’ve got such strong symptoms. You’re the boss go have a snooze!

On the subject on bosses I think mine got out the wrong side of bed this morning, either that or she hasn’t yet put her horns away after Halloween!! I’m on my fifth day today of taking I inofolic alpha and am on CD36. I was hoping last months 44 day cycle was a one off but it’s not seeming that way. Hopefully the inofolic will help, if not I’m going to have to make an appointment at the doctors for the new year.

Overlyanxious · 17/11/2020 08:37

Thank you for your thoughts ladies.

@ChunkyButFunky87 that is good you’ve got strong symptoms.

@Waiting2BAMummy fingers crossed for you and a dr appointment in the new year sounds like a good idea.

ChunkyButFunky87 · 17/11/2020 10:32

Fingers crossed for this month then @Waiting2BAMummy

Has it sank it yet @Coolhand2 ?!

Nausea kicking in here, all positive signs, I just forgot how crap it makes you feel lol have to remind myself it's all worth it, and each day is a day closer to meeting little one

Think I'll feel better next week, midwife on Tuesday and scan Friday fingers crossed x

H8624 · 17/11/2020 11:52

@ChunkyButFunky87 how many weeks are you now?

Symptoms is certainly a good sign - the first trimester is hard work but once you hit 12/13 weeks it should improve! And as soon as you see the baby on the screen you will know it's all worth it!

I'm 33 weeks now and the struggle is returning (altho not as hard as the first trimester)! Feeling huge, puffed out from even moving and lack of sleep lol, but 7 weeks till I get to meet him and I can't wait!

@Coolhand2 congrats! How are you feeling?

Hey @H8624

I'm 6+4, I remember sickness kicking in with my daughter at 7 weeks and I was in and out of hospital from then on as I had hyperemesis and carried on right through to 16 weeks! Praying it's not that bad this time lol

bitheby · 17/11/2020 12:24

Just need to vent.

Due to lockdown donor encouraged me to try shipping this month for the first time. I wasn't sure but agreed.

He booked a courier with guaranteed delivery by midday today. I'm probably ovulating today (I haven't tracked because I don't want to know if I've missed it - we couldn't do a weekend collection so Tuesday was the earliest overnight delivery).

Anyway, possibly because of lockdown or just the courier company being crap; they haven't collected it and it's still hundreds of miles away at the collection point so has sat there for 24 hours degenerating and I'm so cross.

H8624 · 17/11/2020 12:57

@ChunkyButFunky87 fingers crossed it's not so bad this time!

@bitheby sorry to hear this that must be very frustrating! Could he donate again and get it to you tomorrow? Yes it could be too late but you never know

ChunkyButFunky87 · 17/11/2020 13:46

Oh @bitheby yes I think you're allowed a vent on that one, it's pretty crap to say the least. Hugs xx

bitheby · 17/11/2020 16:35

It got picked up just after I posted after 24 hours sat there.

I'm frantically refreshing the tracking info but I doubt it will come until tomorrow. I think I've been having ovulation pain since about 3pm.

Can't focus on work and keep crying. It feels like it's never going to happen for me.

Coolhand2 · 18/11/2020 13:44

Hey guys, bad news for me, AF came today☹️ I tested with a frer a few days after that +ve, and there was no 2nd line, so I am thinking it was a false test/evaporation. And my temps started going down. I was so bummed. I am feeling better today and ready to try again, I realized this journey is tough.

Coolhand2 · 18/11/2020 13:47

So sorry @bitheby, I would feel like that too. Maybe 24hrs is a lot to sit, could they give another donation. Stay strong, just picture yourself holding your precious baby😍

Waiting2BAMummy · 18/11/2020 16:09

Sorry to hear that @Coolhand2 this journey is such a rollercoaster. Bless you I’m glad you’re feeling better and fingers crossed for you for next month.

That is gutting @bitheby I’m so sorry you must be really fed up. Just let yourself feel you’re feelings you’re entitled to them.

Waiting2BAMummy · 18/11/2020 16:10
  • Your feelings
bitheby · 18/11/2020 20:49

I'm 43 and I think I've missed my chance. Had a miscarriage over Easter weekend and one chemical since then.

The package still hasn't arrived so the sperm will be dead most probably and I'll be outside my fertile window. It's just set back after set back after set back.

Waiting2BAMummy · 18/11/2020 21:25

Would you consider fertility treatment @bitheby? Even going as far as donor eggs. These are things I’m starting to resign myself to maybe having to consider.

ChunkyButFunky87 · 18/11/2020 22:03

So sorry @Coolhand2 I really thought that was a strong positive - didn't even look evap like. It's so shit when you get your hopes up to have them trashed.

@bitheby I can fully understand your frustrations, really sorry it's all panned out like this, this month. I hope you can get back on track.

Hugs to you both ladies x

Busybee143 · 19/11/2020 11:41

@Coolhand2 @bitheby so sorry your both having a tough time.
Things will work out in the end, and if they haven't worked out yet it's because it's not the end.
Keep strong, it's a tough journey at times.

Overlyanxious · 21/11/2020 12:57

@Coolhand2 I’m so sorry to hear that. Fingers crossed for next month.

@bitheby I’m sorry to hear all the problems you are having. I will keep my fingers crossed that next month is better for you.

ChunkyButFunky87 · 23/11/2020 15:02

How's everyone doing today?

bitheby · 23/11/2020 18:18

I wanted to take this month off as I've been getting so stressed but the donor pressured me and them totally messed it up. He booked the courier from work and then had second thoughts and dropped it at a pick up shop but didn't tell the courier. They attempted collection from work and that's what caused the delay.

It arrived two days late. I inseminated anyway and am hoping I haven't given myself a UTI!

But it's nice to have a chilled month with no expectations.

No I wouldn't have donor eggs. If I don't conceive with my own I would consider adoption. But I don't know if I'd get approved.

Waiting2BAMummy · 23/11/2020 18:29

AF has finally arrived for me today @ChunkyButFunky87 a 42 day cycle but still 2 days shorter than last month so I’ll take it!

How are you feeling?
