At Home Insemination - Buddies?

For several reasons hubby and I are going down the route of at home insemination. It can be quite a lonely process I think - does anyone want to join me and we can go through it together/share tips etc?

Bit of background - we've tried for 2 months now both unsuccessful. I'm using clearblue ovulation detector to get my peak, and we've been doing the insemination every day from when I get my flashing smiley to the day after the peak, give or take the odd day! Using 10ml syringes and laying down afterwards for 20-30 mins.

Finding the 2ww a real struggle, and my heart breaks every time AF comes! I know it's only been 2 cycles and could take a lot longer so need to be patient! Altho feel like everyone around me is having babies which doesn't help!

Anyway sorry for going on - anyone want to join and share their experiences/tips? Need some motivation and hope!

The problem I have with bbt is that my sleep is so erratic and I’m often up in the night so it is never going to be accurate.

How is it that you go through sex Ed at school and they make you believe that you only have to look at sperm and you’re pregnant but actually getting pregnant is REALLY hard!

Busybee143 · 11/08/2020 14:07

@Waiting2BAMummy I get up in the middle of the night and sometimes have bad sleep because of our 13mo and mine surprisingly is quite clear

Same @Waiting2BAMummy I woke up between 8-12 and it was pretty accurate.

@Waiting2BAMummy sorry for this late reply but thank you for the encouragement. and i might ask the donor to come again if i get a random positive opk today or within a few days since i have had no positives yet which is pretty weird since i've been tracking my cycles for a while and always caught them. could've happened during the night, i guess. i also have a short luteal phase so i'm hoping i have just missed it otherwise it'll be even shorter 🤞😰 but i do know that the moment i noticed ewcm the donor was round so i'm hoping even if i ovulate late, the little swimmers will be ready haha. best of luck to everyone!!

ellabars · 11/08/2020 18:17

guys i really need some encouragement right now haha. this will be a bit tmi haha... two days ago the donor came round and we did the menstrual cup method. i left it in there too long to be honest. just wanted to keep it there as much as i could. no negative signs of infection or anything but i just pulled it out and SO MUCH EWCM JUST FELL OUT OF ME AND STRETCHED SO FAR I WAS SHOCKED! never seen so much in my life but at least i know i'm hella on my fertile days. anyway... haha... i'm just worried that lots of the sperm came out, too. obviously the seminal fluid sticks around but i don't know how much would still be containing the sperm? eeek.

ellabars · 11/08/2020 18:43

ignore my freak out i'm all good now haha.

Waiting2BAMummy · 11/08/2020 19:01

That’s really interesting @Busybee143 what app do you use to track your temperature?

Good luck @ellabars

Busybee143 · 12/08/2020 08:52

@Waiting2BAMummy no worries!
@foreverfrustrated09 stranger danger 😂

I cba with another hot day today guys, my little one is still snoozing though so I've had chance to catch up with a couple of bits this morning :D

ChunkyButFunky87 · 12/08/2020 09:00

Morning ladies,

Fingers crossed for you @ellabars

I still don't 100% get the BBT thing, need to read up more, still waiting on my thermometer anyway.

Going to pee on sticks again too this month, just because I'm a little bit psychotic Grin

The only 'plus' I keep telling myself is that now every month that goes by is another month potentially of maternity during my daughters first year of school. It would be lovely to be off for as much of that as possible as she starts next September.

Here's to this next cycle anyway

ellabars · 12/08/2020 09:06

you too @ChunkyButFunky87

how does everyone feel about taking pregnancy tests early? i just don't want to set myself up for disappointment but my cycles vary every month about 4 days difference! i could be taking a test 22nd since if AF hasn't come by then, then that'll be late for me. but then again... Clue says it's due 18th which it could definitely be - looking at my past cycles.

Busybee143 · 12/08/2020 10:44

@ellabars after testing both early and late I would go for late. There's no second guessing as you should have a line if pregnant so you rule out driving yourself insane thinking ill give it another day. Also it can but not always rule out a chemical as I don't think they last that long (I could be wrong here please feel free to correct me) and mainly figure if you are pregnant you'll still be pregnant a week later and if not I'd personally rather not know. The earliest I would test is worst case scenario period due date which is very late for some 😂 obviously everyone is different but 2 miscarriages have changed my thoughts a little. And lastly more importantly I kick myself for wasting money on tests 😂😂 hope that helps

Waiting2BAMummy · 12/08/2020 11:41

I think you have a POAS addiction @ChunkyButFunky87 do I need to hold an intervention?! 😂😂

I second what @Busybee143 says in regards to testing early @ellabars. It can get quite expensive if you’re going to be testing early and if you’re late you have a reason to believe that you might need to take a test. That and any line should be unquestionable at that stage. If you’re pregnant you’ll still be pregnant after AF is due. The wait is torture but in some strange way AF arriving is less of a kick in the teeth than a string of BFN’s.

ChunkyButFunky87 · 12/08/2020 11:49

Honestly I think I do @Waiting2BAMummy ! Lol

@ellabars I'm completely preaching here purely because I've just waste over £20 this week alone on testing too early to get a negative. I say it every time that I won't and I know it's hard but the reality is, it is just money thrown down the drain. As above, if you're going to get a positive - another week won't hurt and believe me, once you do know, time seems to go soooooo slowly (I felt anyway) lol so enjoy another week of possibilities!

ellabars · 12/08/2020 12:10

thank you @Busybee143 @Waiting2BAMummy and @ChunkyButFunky87 !! i knew that waiting was the right answer i just needed some encouragement. i'm sure we can all agree that the waiting around is TORTURE and we'd rather just know if AF was coming than wait around. but I can imagine it is a lot worse if you get a BFN but you're still waiting for AF for another few days not knowing if it was a false negative or not.

the money is a big thing, too. i just see people getting excited and taking tests every day from 7dpo every cycle... i am obsessed but i hope not to be that obsessed.

at least if AF comes i've planned a nice day for myself so it won't be as hard.. recommend everyone to do that, as well!

Busybee143 · 12/08/2020 12:28

I'm waiting till the 20th of August as I'll be 12/13 dpo and that's late for me as I have 23-25 day cycles. If I feel af is coming I'll try hold out a couple more days.

ellabars · 12/08/2020 12:48

best of luck @Busybee143 i'll be testing 22nd/23rd if no AF!

Waiting2BAMummy · 12/08/2020 13:13

Good luck @Busybee143

Busybee143 · 12/08/2020 13:44

Thanks guys, I don't want the day to come if I'm honest as it means I'm one step closer to being back at work

Busybee143 · 12/08/2020 17:09

I could be out already, I've just had some bleeding at 5dpo which is way too early for implantation 😬 my body is an arsehole 😂

Waiting2BAMummy · 12/08/2020 21:04

It’s not necessarily too early @Busybee143 they do say implantation happens 6-12 dpo but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible for it to happen a day earlier. Not everything follows the norm. Keep the faith x

Busybee143 · 12/08/2020 21:34

@Waiting2BAMummy my body hates me though 😂 but I will try to stay positive thank you x
