At Home Insemination - Buddies?

999 replies

H8624 · 15/02/2020 17:58

For several reasons hubby and I are going down the route of at home insemination. It can be quite a lonely process I think - does anyone want to join me and we can go through it together/share tips etc?

Bit of background - we've tried for 2 months now both unsuccessful. I'm using clearblue ovulation detector to get my peak, and we've been doing the insemination every day from when I get my flashing smiley to the day after the peak, give or take the odd day! Using 10ml syringes and laying down afterwards for 20-30 mins.

Finding the 2ww a real struggle, and my heart breaks every time AF comes! I know it's only been 2 cycles and could take a lot longer so need to be patient! Altho feel like everyone around me is having babies which doesn't help!

Anyway sorry for going on - anyone want to join and share their experiences/tips? Need some motivation and hope!

@Waiting2BAMummy @ohsotrying
I've made a mini boo boo this month and inseminated 6 days and 4 days before ovulation by accident so my odds aren't great haha.
I guess this really will be a test of its better that the sperm is there first 😂

I've been reading a lot into surges of LH and ovulation and you're right you can ovulate very soon after rather that 48 hours. I've also read apparently (don't quote me on this) it might take some people's body longer to process a peak from your urine so actually you might be ovulating a hell of a lot sooner than you think. I'm going to start taking my temperature when I've dug out my thermometer. Is it right that you get a dip and then a rise in temperature when you ovulate girls? I could do with some wisdom on the matter ☺️

Waiting2BAMummy · 18/07/2020 12:11

I’ve read articles of people who have conceived have only DTD 7 days before the hospital dates their date of conception so you’re not completely out of chance @Busybee143. Also one lady I was chatting to on a different donor thread was dated 5 days after insemination.

You should see a temp rise for 3 consecutive days in order to confirm ovulation.

Busybee143 · 18/07/2020 15:31

@Waiting2BAMummy
You've made me optimistic thank you!
4 more days and I'll know anyway 😂

ChunkyButFunky87 · 18/07/2020 17:10

Good luck ladies.

I'm really torn, I'm not doing OPK this month and earlier (CD10) I had a niggle in my left side, and my CM is clear but still a little thin (sorry tmi) we were planning to do CD 12 & 14. Appears two is manageable, 3 not so much for hubby with our problems unfortunately. I've already said Monday & Wednesday (have to give him time to focus lol) but now I'm not sure whether to bring forward and do tomorrow and Tuesday? Or if I'm being silly and too early?

Argh someone just give me a baby lol

Waiting2BAMummy · 18/07/2020 17:31

Fingers crossed @Busybee143

I would still do 12 & 14 @ChunkyButFunky87 I’ve thought I was ovulating around cd10 on previous cycles but based on when AF arrived I actually ovulated day 15/16 like normal so I would say stick to the plan but you have to do what you’re happy with. I hear you on the just give me a baby front. Though, I don’t know about you, but I don’t just want a baby I want the whole pregnancy thing even though it’s not all roses I feel like it’s all part of the process.

ChunkyButFunky87 · 18/07/2020 17:39

@Waiting2BAMummy yes 100% I had a bit of a crappy pregnancy, sickness throughout, few hospital admissions but I can't tell you how grateful I'd be to have that chance again and it's so short lived in the grand scheme of things

Here's to hoping x

H8624 · 18/07/2020 18:04

@busybee143 i was tempting and always found I had a drop the day before ovulation, then at least 3 days of higher temps after which confirms ov. I highly recommend the fertility friend app (free version). I tracked my temps on there and it automatically puts the line in for ovulation after 3 sustained temp rises.

Just make sure you are taking it at the same time each day before getting out of bed! I made the mistake at first of dozing for 10/15 mins before taking temp and it varied a lot more than when doing it straight away! The good thing about temping is it confirms that you have ovulated if you get the rise so you can be sure on dates when you get your BFP 😊

I’ve never wanted to feel nauseous so much @ChunkyButFunky87 😂

I’m due AF next weekend I told myself I was going to wait until 1st August to test and that’s already moved to next Monday. I do have willpower.... I do have willpower....

Busybee143 · 18/07/2020 21:15

@H8624
Thanks for the info, I've just downloaded the app ready for my next cycle 😁

Busybee143 · 18/07/2020 22:07

@ChunkyButFunky87
I'm in the same boat trying to second guess the two best days for insemination, I hear you!
I feel like the '2ww' is killing me off this month, I'm 5dpo and I've got approx 4 days till af.... God help me!

ohsotrying · 19/07/2020 19:00

Think I'm going to try and get a donation each 24 hrs. Think that's okay and try and stay for two nights. It's just such a long journey ! Hope your all well. I'm already dreading the TWW!

ChunkyButFunky87 · 19/07/2020 19:33

Tell me about it @Waiting2BAMummy I'll take sickness and the ups and downs

Fingers crossed for you @Busybee143 @ohsotrying

We've agreed to try tonight (cd11) and Tuesday (cd13), I doubt we'll get Thursday but that would be a bonus. See how hubby goes, i thought we were out of the running earlier, DD threw a book towards him and the corner hit him in the balls!! OMG when I say he yelped, I mean full on I jumped up thinking something serious had happened! Grin he was somewhere between crying and laughing, thankfully he's recovered lol

Waiting2BAMummy · 20/07/2020 20:23

So, my resolve is waning. I was supposed to be testing next Monday by which time I believe I’ll be officially late. I think I’m at least 8dpo today but am now thinking I could test on Wednesday.

I have been having some mild cramping over the last couple of days so really think I’m out. Someone tell me I’m wasting a tenner and this is not my month....

ohsotrying · 21/07/2020 10:43

Eek I know don't listen to apps but 4th day of flashing smiley and app says I will ovulate on 24th so going down tommrow !

Busybee143 · 21/07/2020 11:22

@Waiting2BAMummy I need to test tomorrow too, fingers crossed eh
@ohsotrying good luck!!

ohsotrying · 21/07/2020 11:42

I'm a bit worried I'll miss it again. When I looked at my one step yesterday it said high at 41% I am away until tonight so worried I'll get home and test and get peak ! As I think I've got ewcm. Is it possibly to ovulate early on cd11? App says I'll ovulate on 24th

Busybee143 · 21/07/2020 14:24

@ohsotrying
It's possible but it's also possible you will ovulate 36 hours after your peak so I wouldn't worry.
Stick with your plans and just let life take its path, this might be your lucky month🍀🤞

ChunkyButFunky87 · 21/07/2020 17:13

I agree with @Busybee143 , @ohsotrying stick to your plans. I'm in this now, we did CD 11 because I felt I had enough positive sign wise, today is now 13 so we're doing tonight but I feel like signs already dipped. So now in complete limbo if I ovulated earlier or if I've not yet at all!! Back on the opk next month lol

Waiting2BAMummy · 21/07/2020 19:12

Good luck for tomorrow @Busybee143 fingers crossed for you.

You shouldn’t listen to apps @ohsotrying they use algorithms that give you results based on the average persons data they are not personal to you. I’ve read so many stories of women who were using apps (granted their weren’t using OPK’s) and it turns out there was actually 5 days difference between what the app predicted and when they actually ovulated. Bare in mind that the clearblue dual hormone ovulation tests can pick your surge up quite late. When I was using OPK’s I got a positive late afternoon on a cheap test but no static smiley until the following morning. You can also get several days of flashing smileys as the flashing shows a surge in estrogen ahead of your LH surge but this is rarely the textbook 2-3 days that, they claim. Good luck, as @Busybee143 and @ChunkyButFunky87 say stick to your plans. If it’s meant to be your month it will happen. Try not to get all worked up the stress hormones aren’t good for TTC and I promise you will feel more relaxed after the first time and it becomes a very surreal normal.

Busybee143 · 21/07/2020 20:27

@ChunkyButFunky87
@Waiting2BAMummy
Thanks for the good luck, I honestly feel like I don't want to test yet because I don't want to see a stark white stick!!

ohsotrying · 21/07/2020 20:43

Thank you so much all. So lovely to have this support. I'm going to test using opk when I get home I've got cheapies and clear blu. I've attached what my last one looks like. So hoping I've not missed peak or get it tonight. But as you say if I do I'll still go tommrow morning never know might just catch it!
Also attached my bbt first time I've probably been using this ! Didn't take one This morning but have evrey other day. So atleast I may know when I've ovulated and it'll really help next month !

Ladies, a TMI question if you don't mind.

I've been using the 10ml syringes, and even though I do my best to make sure it's well in and that I release the plunger as slowly as possible to avoid damage, I always feel like I instantly have leakage? Is it just me, am I doing something wrong?!

It felt like this the first time I tried and got pregnant so I obviously wasn't worried lol but now I'm a bit scared I'm wasting good sperm!

ohsotrying · 21/07/2020 21:18

10ml is quite big chunky. I'm useing a 5ml/calpol surging energy Mandy it's to big. Some spillage I think is normal

Busybee143 · 21/07/2020 21:32

@ChunkyButFunky87
I don't tend to have leakage when I'm being inseminated it's when I stand up after half an hour ect. Sorry to ask but what position are your legs in and stuff? My other half makes me get into the cervical smear position and that seems to help. Leave the syringe in for 10 seconds once it's empty and then close your legs then pull it out, sorry for tmi 😂

@ohsotrying
This cycle I had a really bad experience with a 10ml so I bought some 5ml which weren't as wide for the next day delivery and used that and it was so much more comfortable, I figure that some people use a calpol syringe so a 5ml medical will be fine.

ChunkyButFunky87 · 21/07/2020 21:55

I am literally bum up in 2 pillows, against the head board with legs up in the airGrin

I am wondering now, that first month I used an actual Calpol syringe sterilised but this was a pre made pack from eBay and all come with 10ml. Will try 5ml next month.

I also put it, and leave the syringe for 10 mins to 'plug' but still feel leakage, legs in air for 20 mins after - obviously no science to it but makes me feel better lol
