Great new @lovelymojitos. Good luck with your scan @Ttc2017 🤞🏻 for you. Also welcome back @kwick in cognito 😜!

I could use some advice ladies...I received an email from the clinic giving possible dates for transfer. Neither are very good for different reasons. Does anyone know if there is much of a difference when using donor embryos if you are 40 or 41? I'm thinking of postponing for 6 months to a year as my work pressures are going to go crazy very soon and I'm worried the stress will have a negative impact. Any thoughts, experiences or ideas to share please I would be very grateful to hear what you think.

Hi,

I’m at the very beginning of the process of getting pregnant using donor sperm.

What would be the simplest route for this please?

I’d also like to donate some eggs as a pay it forward kind of thing given the situation I’ve found myself in - 36 and no partner - would any clinic want my eggs due to my age?

Any advice would be most appreciated xx

Ttc2017 · 30/05/2018 11:22

Had my scan got to drop meds in half as 4 follies one at nearly 16mm two 13 and one 12 they said we need to get rid of the 12 or we can't go ahead I just hope I don't lose the big one as well but back Fri for another scan then maybe iui on Monday x

lovelymojitos · 30/05/2018 13:29

Welcome nofilter, the first step would be getting some blood tests done - some GP's will be fine with doing this, other places you have to go private. I think some of the bigger clinics hold open days that you can get lots of info from.
The initial decision is whether you have IUI (+/- medication) or IVF. IVF has a higher chance of success but is more involved with more meds/scans etc and obviously more expensive. A lot of people with no known fertility problems (other than a lack of sperm!!) seem to go for IUI first and then think about IVF. I'm not sure about egg sharing and ages sorry. Have a read through the previous threads (if you've got a few free hours!) as there's lots of info - the donor conception network has loads of info as well.

ttc fingers crossed the main follicle continues to grow and the others don't...I'm a little bit nervous about my iui tomorrow with 3 big follicles but my clinic didn't seem too perturbed!

Ttc2017 · 30/05/2018 18:10

Good luck for tomorrow lovely did they say you have high Chance of multiples? X

Bear1980 · 30/05/2018 18:27

Hope all went well tired.

Welcome nofilter the first thing I did was phone up a clinic and ask for some stuff information. Like lovely says the information evenings are popular. Once I got the tests done things started moving quite quickly for me. I would say decide on your clinic and go from there.

Good luck for tomorrow lovely, hope all goes well.

Good to see you experiment 😜 hope all is well with you x

Nofilter · 30/05/2018 20:05

Thankyou ladies much appreciated. Ill make an appointment at a clinic and get started.. feels surreal - not a place I ever expected to be at!

RedPandaFluff · 30/05/2018 20:08

Hi everyone - it's TiredAndIrrational here, I decided to name change as I wanted something more positive for this stage!

WHAT A ROLLERCOASTER. So we had thirteen eggs, twelve fertilised, and up until day 4 we had five well-developing embryos. Then overnight we lost three and only had two left for transfer - so no frosties Sad

Having said that, the two left were expanded blasts and of excelllent quality, so maybe . . . just maybe . . . ?

Now the dreaded TWW!

lovelymojitos · 30/05/2018 20:45

Love the new name redpanda!! Fingers crossed the time goes quickly for you...
ttc yes they did say there was an increased chance of multiples...I think 3 is their limit - 4+ and they either cancel cycle or try follicle reduction. I'm trying to think that I have an increased chance of having 1 baby and ignoring the triplet thing!!

Latenightreader · 30/05/2018 22:05

Hi all, I started this journey two and a half years ago and had four unmedicated IUIs before switching to IVF. First collection had 19 eggs, five fertilised, two transferred and none for the freezer - BFN. Second collection had a fresh transfer and two in the freezer, and I was really lucky to get a positive on my second (and last) frozen embryo. I'm currently 19 weeks and still anxious!

Bear1980 · 30/05/2018 23:09

Sorry you didn't get any frosties redpanda but 2 expanded blasts transferred is great. Hope you're tee doesn't drag too much

lovelymojitos · 31/05/2018 10:10

IUI done, was really painful this time for some reason. I'm officially in the tww!!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 31/05/2018 10:49

One of mine was really painful! I was worried, but apparently it's not a sign of anything, unless it was a pinching feeling, which could be the speculum itself. I think you'd know if it was that. Good luck with the TWW!

ButtonMooooon · 31/05/2018 11:58

Hopefully we will get to that stage but I've been told they have gas and air in the room so I am dreading it now!!

Ttc2017 · 01/06/2018 12:12

Has any one had experience of follicle reduction please need honest opinions? scan showed I got 4 massive follies today so they suggesting follicle reduction to get rid of two on Monday then do iui then as well but nervous about having to have morphine etc to put me sleep and how I will feel after wards

Bear1980 · 01/06/2018 16:21

ttc I haven't had it but imagine it is very similar to egg retrieval in ivf. If so then i am sure you will be fine a bit tired on day of iui and then probably a bit tender for a couple of days. Better than cancelling the cycle when you have a couple of good follicles.

tiny how are you doing now? Did you get a negative test yet?

lovelymojitos · 01/06/2018 19:45

Hiya ttc, sorry to hear that there's 4...that's so annoying!! I too don't know anything about follicle reduction I'm afraid but imagine as bear says would be similar to egg retrieval. Are you going to go for it? Did they suggest cancelling your cycle as your other option? Would you get any money back?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 01/06/2018 20:04

Oh, gosh, that sounds scary TTC.

My clinic just discontinues your cycle, so agree with lovely it might be worth asking if you can do that instead?

Ttc2017 · 01/06/2018 20:12

No I wouldn't get any money back so would have to pay for meds again next month which would be more then the 150 for follicle reduction they said it's not general anaesthetic it's morphine and something else which sounds a bit scary but I don't want to risk another month as they said they would drop my meds next month but last time they did that I didn't respond at all and bled so wasted that months meds to x

LRDtheFeministDragon · 01/06/2018 20:32
Shock

That's really bad! Surely, if they can't do IUI because they set the meds too high, you should not be having to pay? I can understand them offering you the option to go for a reduction, but it is really not right they are not giving you the option to discontinue.

Ttc2017 · 01/06/2018 20:58

Nope when I didn't respond cos meds to low they even said I might have to pay a 200 pound cancellation fee even though they cancelled it as no big follies! I didn't have to pay it luckily but that was cheeky

TinyPaws · 01/06/2018 22:40

@TTC Sorry you’re needing follicle reduction I didn’t know that was a thing

@Bear1980 Thanks for asking, I didn’t get a negative test yet but I had a blood test on Tuesday following positive urine hcg and my levels were only 27 so I reckon I should test negative by now. I’ve also started having some very weird bleeding, hopefully it will reset my body so I can begin a normal cycle. How are you doing?

I’ve been lurking and reading everyone’s posts but not replying as I’m finding it hard not being pregnant and not being able to TTC either.

Bear1980 · 02/06/2018 09:11

ttc hopefully that's a good sign then. I know what you mean, I was hoping to do get with this cycle but not sure if I will need to wait till July. I guess I will see what the clinic say once I get negative test.

My last levels were almost negative (I didn't ask this time what they were, the week before they were 30 so lower than that). I am on holiday this week so next test not till 6th June but I have finally stopped spotting so I am hoping they will be down to 0 by then. Then it will be period watch. I am up and down emotionally but just trying to weigh up my next steps to give me something to focus on.

Ttc2017 · 02/06/2018 10:36

Thanks bear and tiny fingers crossed for you really hope you can get started again soon xx

Nurse told me to take my normal meds tonight as well as trigger is that right as last time she said not to and to just to trigger xx

lovelymojitos · 02/06/2018 11:04

Hi ttc that sounds wrong to me - I think you stop all meds once the follicles are big enough and just do the trigger. I'd definitely double check with the clinic, do they open Saturday? Or is there an on call person? Good luck for Monday.
Day 3 of tww and I'm driving myself crazy!! Thankfully got lots to do this wkend and then it's my birthday next wkend so hopefully will take my mind off it. How are you going with your tww redpanda?
